1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. Hum ... I think she will always be able to find people for that !
She will try to go on in a legal way ...

    2. It really is.I wonder if she's going to be compensating them if she uses them in images she sells. Probably not.:|

    3. that was very polite of her.to respond.and very mature.you guys are just bullies .enjoy being immature long after i'm log off.

    4. I'd be interested to know which book this is; both to back up your story, and to make sure I never purchase one if I come across a copy. Could you link us, or if you don't want to make it public, shoot me a PM? Thanks!

    5. Certainly not. She might think it's a gift for them.

    6.

I'd be totally willing to believe that if you're not the artist herself, you're either a very devoted fan or a good friend.

    7. Let me see....20 posts. Bad grammar, impossible punctuation, lousy spelling, name calling, finger-pointing, and all in this and no other forum thread. Why it looks as if the account was created only to try and discredit a reasoned and legitimate (if passionate) expose of a thief.

Friend of Mijn? Mijn herself? Certainly a troll. Can this poster be banned, please, mods? S/he has contributed nothing to this discussion.

    8. You know I've stayed quiet on this topic.

But if she admits what she did was wrong, then people might forgive her. Yeah she's now asking but what she's done cannot be easily forgiven by other people, those who are in it or not.

Calling someone a bully isn't productive, neither is witch hunting. But there is proof and no one is bullying her. People want her to admit what she did was wrong and reconcile that mistake.

    9. Thank you for not making me waste my breath, I was thinking exactly what it is that you just said.

In my opinion, Mijn is being extremely disrespectful to the owners, but I think we all agree on that anyway:lol:. When I first heard about her, I fell completley in love with her artwork, but knowing now that her work, well not even her work, is fraud I am very dissapointed.

    10. Politeness would dictate that she either asked before she appropriated other people's work or simply created her own.

Maturity would have involved admitting to her error when initially pointed out, rather than spinning lies and backtracking on her own recorded statements -- or, better yet, not committing the error in the first place.

Pointing out these fallacies and analyzing the statement against the information we already have is not bullying.

If you think it is, then clearly you're far more invested in this emotionally than you say you are.

      I also call shenanigans.

    11. She never mentioned compensating Becky, so it seems unlikely.

What's truly amazing here is despite her claims of 'homage', that she's helping to bring about awareness/sales of these dolls, and the fact that she owes 100% of her success to ball-jointed dolls, she doesn't seem to OWN a single one.

Nor, even after all of this, seems willing to just BUY one, and use that as her model (which would still be an issue IMO, but slightly less insulting.) She still wants people to offer up their photos for her to use for free.

Seems pretty ungrateful and cheap of her, all things considered...

    12. But she must be an artist, not a cheater .
It's so sad to see that every part on her work is traced... It may seem old-fashioned but it seems to me like an exam cheater, as it's been said in a previous post ...

    13. It would be more important to know if they thought it was a gift... especially a gift worth what Mijn Schatje was going to be making on it. A giclee print only costs a few bucks to print. Small investment for something you can sell multiples of for upwards of $1,000.

At this point, it seems she's told Kallisti that she'll pull the artwork from her site and stop selling it going forward. It doesn't change that she claimed Kallisti's work as her own for several years now... and has had it published to great profit under her own name. She's sold it to Sony, she's licensed it to Fornarnia, and she's even had it on the cover of a Taschen calendar. Those things can't be undone, and there has been no talk of sharing credit or compensation.

Her most recent works on Facebook are traced, just like the old ones. I just don't feel like she's going to change.

    14. She really deleted Kallisti's traced photos from her Myspace.

    15. Fixed, emphasis is mine. :aninja:

    16. Yes, but did you miss the rest? It's too late. She's already made a small fortune on Kallisti's work and has spread it across the world under her own name. So what if it's no longer on her website? Magazines, calendars, prints, and soon clothing is out there labelled Mijn Schatje.

Not to mention, she claimed that she contacted her before ever using her work... when the Sony pic was done 14 months before any contact was made. It wasn't a language barrier issue, and implying that it was is disingenuous.

    17. Don't worry, I agree with you, she used the dolls' identity as hers. That's why she's semi-famous now.

    18. And about the prints, there are 15 made out of each picture... I let you calculate.

    19. Semi-famous, but not at all sorry.

In all of her public statement, there is no "I was wrong to say that I created these from my imagination" or "I'm sorry." And even since beginning to talk to Kallisti, she has posted two pictures that are also traced. One is by Violet Poem, I believe?

      ETA: 15 prints @ $1,700 each x 8 "appropriated" pictures = WOW.

    20. Her english isn't that bad! Granted, its possible (I'm saying possible here, not likely) that she doesn't understand the replies as well as she does what she's sending out. Or fully understand what she's sending out in the first place. But that does not at all change dates. Image made before contacting someone does not change one bit with languages.
Unless of course it was a e-mail meant to be sent and saved in drafts and sent later. Buuut uh yeah. 1) I doubt it. 2) I think she would have mentioned it. 3) She shouldn't have used the picture at all then. less it was for personal practice never to be seen in which case I can't personally fault her if it'd REMAINED NEVER SEEN TILL SHE GOT AN OKAY FOR IT :doh
