1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. Same here, I was very 'wtf' when I saw it and instantly locked it. I store nothing except static things there now (like backgrounds for webpages.)

Also, The artist that was bugging my head who was in a similar situation to Mijn was 'Todd Goldman'. As I understand it Goldman used art that was created by his studio, it was individual studio artists who traced them and then passed the 'idea' onto Goldman for possible production (mostly clip art it seems) The fact he was not aware of it however, did not stop it ruining his repretation and causing his art to be pulled from stores and galleries.

He did however give all the profits of various art peices that were trace/copied to the original creators and his law suits were stopped.

If only Mijn was so wise about keeping her repretation as an artist secure. If this goes big it will be unlikley she will find a good art deal for a while.

    2. It is - she has some sort of deal going on with Sony/Playstation.

I'd love to hear how they feel about their adverts being comprised of about 99% stolen materials.

    3. Does anyone know if Audrey Kawasaki has been notified?

    4. I think someone on the other forum is going to contact Audrey Kawasaki soon, if they haven't already.

    5. I'm surprised no one has yet.

    6. I'm confused: why is this person not sued to edge of Earth??
These "art works" she "created" are more than enough evidence to press charges, not to mention multiple charges from various artists and companies.
is there a reason to this? I'm sure not all of the victims are non-chalante and want least trouble as possible. Some people ought to care enough to look to courts. Or is Mijn Scharrje not-sue-able? (iunno, maybe some weird over-sea/ unknown location by-law? mot familiar with these things, but her real name is known and the people she sold her "pieces" to probably has already been contracted, or is in the process. They paid to her paypal or some form of money transfer.)
also should be noted for lying and ignorance. if that is possible. D:<
Schatje is so, so sad a person.

    7. I know we don't want to flood them with emails but maybe one person should just say "okay! I'm doing this. no one else email them" so we don't have to wonder

    8. nah. I vote flood them with emails. We have to show that we care, and this is important.

    9. seriously, DO NOT do that.
it is not going to get this anywhere, all you will be doing is spamming them.
companies have been notified, there is no point in spamming them.
we all care, but that is not the way things need to be handled.

    10. alright. sorry, I guess my suggestion is not mature enough.
How should this situation be handled?

    11. Anyway we could post in the first post when and who is sending the emails and also post who we could send things too? That way if we find something we can email it to someone who will contact the owner in a nice, organized manner?

    12. By flooding them with emails you end up look like a lynch mob and just evoking sympathy for the accused, even if they're the ones in the wrong. Even if it would show how angry we all are, it would lessen the creditability of people who are actually effected by this.

Posting to blogs, public websites, and forums in hopes of calling attention to this in a mature and reasonable fashion (no name-calling, just the facts) is a much more effective way of getting attention.

    13. Great idea NabeeRain :)

however for the rest of us... just sit on our hands and watch it all unfold? I guess that's the way history always happens. Main characters have full time jobs, juggling everything. The rest, as a unity, sit and waits.
I hope this will be over soon. can't contain this.. excitement (I suppose) much longer :)

how does this story end? :D lol! can't wait!

    14. the doll companies will do what they see necessary and there is not much we can do about that.
we just need to wait it out and keep looking for the original pictures.
if no one else does anything i know volks will, they seem to have the most power in the doll world. plus they are the ones most affected seeing as a volks doll was printed on the fornarina clothing.

the only people who have not been emailed (to my knowledge) are disney and audrey kawasaki, and i think whoever found the comparison should email them. (or radiotrash since it seems she has done everything else)

but if someone has already emailed them, let us know.

    15. Probably the way it's being handled, as soon as people are aware of who's mailed whom about what -- bring the situation to the attention of the parties involved, give any information needed, then let the legal eagles do their work. Luts has already specifically requested a stop to any email spamming that might be going on, since it can make an already sticky legal situation even more difficult to navigate. The public information being spread (via blogs/websites/etc, as Lelei mentioned) is where we can do our best work provided that it's all laid out rationally and maturely with facts rather than an overdose of RAWR SMASHITY RIGHTEOUS WRAAAAAAAATH!!!!!oneoneichi

Showing that the community cares is one thing. Shooting the effort in the foot through overzealousness is something else entirely.

    16. I do believe that Radiotrash already has a list somewhere of what companies/galleries have been contacted and I think she PMed it to the mods for them to post in the thread. :)

I also believe that you can use the Contact us button on the bottom of her page to let them know that X person/company has been contacted.

    17. Audrey is in the process of being contacted. Disney has not, because they supposedly don't have the license to Ghibli in Europe. Studio Ghibli has been contacted themselves, but they haven't responded yet.

    18. Well, with my suggestion an email or site could be posted where we could contact someone if we find something and the can then notify the proper persons. That way we would not be really sitting on our hands, if anyone finds soemthign very important we have a place to report it too. ^_^ As for the rest, I guess we do wait and see what happens!
