1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. Mijn's art breakdown: BJDs for the heads, Audrey Kawasaki for the bodies, random stock for the rest. Rinse and repeat.

    2. She's actually refusing to credit her other sources as long as you can't find the other pics where she traced, so that they won't be bullied or something :/

    3. Audrey Kawasaki has been notified.

Oh I know. One would hope though that if 25-ish examples of her art are shown to be copied then it would cast automatic doubt on the rest of them.

    4. Will you be adding the Kawasaki traces?

      (Updated the first post too.)

    5. They should be updated on the site at the top and then at the 'inspirations' section.

(And well I suppose we shouldn't stop looking for more traces. Just send me everything you get guys, digging through the threads is becoming a bit of a challenge.)

    6. I lack the words for how angry this makes me.

    7. You and me both, kiddo.

I'm still waiting on word from Sue Dawe, Lisa Frank Inc, Scott Thom and Gilbert Williams, for the checkerboard background, the pink shoe (and possibly the hot air balloons, toy balloons, flamingo, and electric guitar), and the jellyfish. I have positively ID'd the butterflies as being the same images as in a rubber stamp set.

I'm still hunting the white hare, the koi and the goldfish, and scanning off and on for the foliage.

It is beginning to look, however, as if there is not one thing "original" in her "original work."

At what point do we stop calling her an "artist" and start calling her a "paste up crafter"?

    8. In response to what Junkets said, I have no real fear of my own photos being used since it's not like I'm famous or something. But I am more sad about incidents such as this, where other photographers get so worried about their art that they lockdown. It's understandable of them and it just makes me madder at Schatje.

So sorry to hear that you had to do that, xen. :(

    9. Radiotrash, I copied the information on your art theif webpage to post in my Deviantart journal giving you full credit including a link to the page, of course. (Unlike SOME people) Is that alright? Just wanted to make sure. Didn't know if I was getting carried away or not.

    10. sadistic_x_blood - would you mind if I copied your signature into mine and linked it to radiotrash's website? Seems like a good way to spread awareness about the tracing/theft.

    11. careful, like someone said previously, it might be best to say "plagiarist" because thief is a bit harsh and even though you are angry, you could get in trouble for defamation of character.

    12. Good idea! (goes to change it) I wrote theif because that is the wording used on radiotrash's site.

Ferret-Hime: Go for it, though I would change the wording too. It's not as effective in my opinion, but I would hate for our angry words to work in her favor.

    13. In response to the question about this image being an AIL doll, I don't see a company photo that exactly matches, but if it is an AIL head, it's Heyley. Perhaps copied from an owner photo?

Edited: not an Elijah, the eyes really don't match in shape at all. Heyley is pretty darn close, but I'm not up to doing photo overlays. If someone wants to browse owner photos of Heyley and company photos, that would be the best way to tell. I need to eat dinner before I look.

And here's the link to company photos of Heyley: http://homepage3.nifty.com/aliceinlabyrinth/aliceinlabyrinth/hp/gallery-heyley-english.html

    14. it DEFINITELY looks like heyley to me... the lips/teeth especially.

    15. Not to mention it's spelled "thief" xD. In any case though I agree, best be careful and avoid getting into any trouble yourself.

It's weird because I've never personally watermarked my doll photos that much, but now I am definitely going to start. Which is sad, really. I wish people didn't have to be this way. I don't understand how presenting something that is not your own creation is at all gratifying. I've had people steal my wildlife photos (which I generally put more work into than doll pics) so I always use several watermarks on them.

I hope this is all resolved, and that she is stopped. I think everyone here is working hard to get something done, and I applaud your efforts - I'm glad the word is spreading.

    16. XD Whoops! I always type those "ie" "ei"s wrong.

It is a sad shame that people have to build walls around their photos and art this way. It seems like artists would respect other artists...but I guess that's a naive pipe dream.

It does look like heley, but the eyes don't seem to be matching up. Everything else is identical, but the eyes look like Elijahs. :O Is she getting more clever?

    17. It could be a modded doll?

    18. If it is heyley, it's a somewhat upnose shot of heyley. The problem is no one has been able to find a matching pose of a photo yet. Some people have tried overlaying but no good results so far.

    19. Ugh I just read her crap on her myspace and my blood is boiling - all the people praising her who don't know (or don't care?), it makes me sick.

She made this bs journal post there lying about credit, as we all know, but that first person's comment makes me want to go through the damn ceiling. "Splendid work" give me a break, what an imbecile. I don't have a myspace (and refuse to have one xD) someone here with one should let her have it!

    20. Regarding the heyley-like doll, it's possible that it's from an individual Japanese doll maker. Who knows who it is though! :(
