1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. Has anyone contacted the publications listed by MVIII yet? Any French or Spanish speakers around to email the two in different languages?

Edit: xD Like 3 posts get made whilst one posts. Anyway, I'm glad those magazines are being contacted.

Elysion - I saw earlier in the thread that the companies involved have been notified, and that DiM is taking action.

    2. From way back, but wanted to say, thanks, Denny, for keeping us in the loop.

It might be a good idea to hold off on taking down anything until she has publicly apologized to everyone she has taken from and to her fans. And it should be clearly too, with an explanation of what she did. So far, she has been terribly unreliable in speaking the truth clearly.

Also, the galleries (not the online ones, the physical ones) should provide evidence direct to you guys that she has apologized and explained the issue to them too. Any emails from her, stating that she has apologized and explained, should not be taken as evidence alone because she has shown a history of lying in this way.

It might sound very harsh, but I think she has to be treated carefully.

If she does all of the above, then I agree. People can change and should be given a second chance. At the moment though, she is still tracing and putting up new work of her traces, which is just...a bit disheartening and which is why I'm advising for caution.

    3. She sounds like one of those people who will do the easiest thing possible and will try to get away with it, until someone with a bat (fly swatter, etc) stands next to her 24/7 to watch over her.

I'm sure she'll go back to this even after legal action, probably will just use less acessable web based pictures.

    4. This could be a blueprint for What Not To Do.

IF you decide to do digital collage with vector tracing, do not pretend that you are creating everything from scratch.

If you use pictures you find online, do not think "no one will notice."

If you use pictures you find online, do not think "I don't have to get permission."

If you don't get permission, do not think "No one will complain."

If someone complains, do not think "They can't prove it."

If they prove it, do not think "They don't matter, no one will believe them."

If someone believes them, do not think "It's only a few people and they won't know what to do."

When it turns out to be a big hobbyist group, passionate about their work, do not think "They're just hobbyists, they don't matter, they'll give up."

When they don't give up and start revealing your thefts to bigger fish, don't think "All I have to do is temporarily pull a few images, and they'll be satisfied."

When they start revealing your thefts and mendacity to the corporate clients you worked for and the art world in general....

      It will be too late.

    5. Mijn Schatje is checking this thread .............*...Post #745... Denny.....

I'm a bit confused about the above*? does this mean Mijn Schatje has access to DoA? and is watching this thread ? I'd be very worried if so.....

      xen :)

    6. Why be worried? If she hasn't caught on to how angry she's made the community, I'm certain that this is an eye-opening experience. She's probably learned a few things about Intellectual Property Rights and Copyright Protection while she's at it.

...at least, that's what I hope.

    7. If she's checked this thread regularly, I hope she's squirming with unease. The fact that she's been uploading new traced works to everyone's chagrin just shows how she refuses to change :/

    8. I think she is worried because It means she has access to all the pictures any of us have posted here...that does make me a bit nervous...

      Victoria Victrix well said!

    9. Seconded.
I'd really hope she wouldn't have acess to gallery threads. Or maybe thats just me being 100% untrusting of someone who made a living off tracing. :|

    10. Do any of the Doll companies, like Luts and Volks know that She had already made alot of money off thier Images?

If so, I could imagine how they are going to take that news.

oh yes, I apologize for passionate responce earlier. :P

HAs Radiotrash's webite been up dated with the new information that has taken place? (I"m talking about Denny's messages.)

Thired: In fact I think I'll take down all of my best photos. I don't want her getting to any of mine.

    11. There is a e-mail response from them on the site and thats it.

    12. You'll probably want to give Radio some time regarding updates, since she does have other things to do.

    13. .......Yes, this is what I meant....:( Sorry I didn't make myself very clear... I feel worried about her having access to my pics on here.....:(........

EDIT: Oh dear!......I've put a *warning* in my Profile details.....I will take legal action if any of my pics are found in any way or form of art/book reproduced without my permission......it's sad to have to do that but......

      xen :)

    14. she has a DoA account?!
now i am really worried :|

    15. I would be very surprised, considering the extent of her theft, if she didn't have a DoA account.

And I hope she realizes that I am 100% serious about seeing that every digital graphic, and every art magazine in the US is going to hear about what she's been up to, with proof.

    16. Sadly, I doubt it.

I've been to art school. Three of them, actually. These lessons were hammered in to our heads constantly. Has she been to art school? I don't know -- probably, I'd gather she likely has, and I doubt the three in my history were aberrations. This -is- taught.

I would be highly surprised if all of these illustration magazines she's been interviewed in or printed in don't regularly have some sort of article on ethics, or at least on current art world controversies like the infamous Obama poster.

"Oh, gee, shucks, darn, I had no idea this wasn't all perfectly hunky dory!" just doesn't fly. I'm sorry, but it doesn't.

Maybe that sounds really cold, but even in the kiddie pool of the art world where I make my living, these things are absolutely positively hammered in to our skulls at length because heaven forbid we even accidentally screw something up and an item we've made that is OK for commercial use has a problem with it -- because that problem would trickle out to the buyer and could create serious problems for them. The places I broker things all require a statement of ownership of the work. One even requires a detailed and comprehensive list of all licensed resource materials used in the construction, and the others expect that information immediately on demand if a question is ever raised about the legitimacy of some portion of an image.

I sadly doubt companies like Sony or Reebok have any less stringent contracts, and she would have had to sign them to make the deal. I don't buy "I didn't read the fine print," or language barriers about this, either. When it's your job, you make it your job to know and understand the fine print and -exactly- what it means. So I'm not believing for an instant that she thought this was all fine and dandy to do and is only now learning that it is probably not the wisest course of action. Nope, what she's learning? That it's a really bad idea to get caught. ;)

I'm going to be painfully blunt in saying that there are countless legitimate resources available to the modern digital artist. The Dover catalog of clip art alone is so expansive it truly boggles the mind, and there's plenty of it in color that would be well-suited to the style of work she does. Countless stock photography sites exist that can provide additional resources. Some even are free! There is just absolutely no excuse. None at all. If I can afford to do it legitimately for something I'm making $5 off of, she can certainly make the proper investments for a $1k print -- so money isn't even a valid excuse here. Considering how heavily these resource providers advertise in various illustration journals and communities, there's not really any pleading ignorance as to their existence, either.

There are just too many ways to have gone about this the right way, and too many reasons she would have known better for me to believe she's just now learning these lessons. I wish it was otherwise, but sadly... I think she's just learned that getting caught blows.

    17. Hey guys, just popping in to say thanks to those of you that have been PMing/emailing me information. At the moment I'm just going to quickly update it to include DIM's official response. I want to reorganize a bit tomorrow and don't have time for that right now. So just keep it all coming, I'm saving everything don't worry. ^_^

    18. I think the Reebok picture may be legit as far as the inclusion of the shoe is concerned. I did a quick google using her name with the word "reebok ad" and most of the searches included statements about how she has done advertising with Reebok Paris.

    19. I just spent the last half hour deleting all my photos in the gallery, IT may sound bit extreme to some but, I think whatever photos of my boys, people are done looking at them

It's better to be safe then sorry.

I have started posting the link to the website to where-ever Mijn Schatje's "Work" is posted.

There is also youtube clip with her Work, but theres no linking allowed.

I wounder if anyone was willing to do a youtube clip with the images and what not, it would be easy to do. I would be willing to do it.

    20. I'm a bit confused, what are you referring to? Did she post that somewhere?
