1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. Are people keeping any screenshots of whatever she's claimed so far? I think at this point it's safe to say that she's known for changing her mind and deleting some comments. I'd just like to feel a little more assured that whatever she says anywhere, if we have to legitimize our quotes, we can whip those screenies back out.

Of course screenies schmeenies can be forged, but it's better than nothing.

I'd love to screenie her facebook lies but I've closed mine for personal reasons :/

That said, I sure hope we don't uncover any Custom House faces on her art. CH has too much to deal with on their time as it is, and is too short on funds atm to deal with legal things like this :(

    2. (Woooah, my god! I'm so shocked at the LeeKe Milch situation! ;~; )

I have a similar feeling to Taco... I'm not believing a word she says without proof from somewhere/someone reputable. I fell for her words regarding DIM's involvement (and felt guilty and stupid afterwards...)... I'm not doing it again.

...that little heart on her facebook page infuriates me, too... :|

    3. Until I see proof from Leeke, I'm not inclined to believe anything she says. For all we know, it could just be another lie. :\

    4. She has told the (partial) truth on permission twice at the very most, and lied more times than I can count. I would be very suprised if Leeke gave her permission.

    5. hyschara: I've started capping since she changes her FB stuff so often. >:C Custom House faces have been discovered, btw.. one of their old dolls was used for the moon thingy.

    6. This concerns me a lot, I am a photographer by trade, its my livelihood.
Some of my doll photos appear on the first pages of DeviantArt if you search 'BJD' and have many, many downloads. For someone tracing like this a watermark means nothing.
I studied copyright law and legislation in depth at university and i find it incredible this has gone on so long and gone so far.

    7. this is rather mind-boggling. am i crazy or did she earlier swear that she had never even heard of BJDs or seen any pics of them? and yet now in her myspace blog she claims to be a big fan of them? the info on BlastMilk's flickr makes me rage.

also, the Leeke thing kind of made me lol; it's a little ironic and i think Leeke are going to side with her because they're guilty of it too. not to put a stain on Leeke's reputation or anything.

    8. It isn't the first time a doll would be made 'copying' something. Soom copied a video game promo poster with their Onyx Light & Shadow (although Soom did credit the inspiration, and post up the picture themselves). I don't approve of what Leeke did with Milch either, but it just seems like a different level of 'copying' here - it takes a good amount of talent to sculpt a doll even from a photo, more than just tracing an image.

Again, that doesn't make it right and hopefully they can work something out with the original artist, but I can definitely see why they would want to avoid as much of this Mijn mess as possible. Keeps them from looking too hypocritical.

    9. I don't think the companies that are in Korea or China can even do anything about it- the Berne thing right? If the copyright laws don't count for Leeke, DIM etc then they can't even prosecute Mijne even if they wanted to...

    10. someone should organize a sit-in for her next gallery showing. give out pamphlets and things like that, with the comparison shots...haha, what fun would that be?

    11. I'd take my doll with me, sitting in first row and GLARE at her the whole show =_=

    12. That's not how art shows are run. Frequently with a gallery display, the artist isn't there the whole time, and you don't sit in rows of seats - even on the opening of a new show.

    13. Yeah don't you just walk around inside looking at stuff? It's not like a concert xD. So I guess if you were going to do that, the place would be just outside it on public ground telling people as they went in.

    14. Yes, it's a bit like a museum, only you're looking at pictures. You'd have to do your leafletting outside the door, because if you did it inside the gallery the security would probably chuck you out or something.

    15. Does everyone here know about the Facebook group?

"The Mijn Schatje Controversy... Help us discover the truth!"

      http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=85573192034&ref=mf

Please join and encourage everyone you know to do so as well. There are nearly half as many members of this group now as there are "fans" of Mijn's. Word is spreading online that's for sure! Keep up the good work everybody! :)

    16. Yes, the Facebook group was set up about 15 pages back.

    17. I suppose... with this new "With permission from Leeke" quote that's appeared... it suggests that she is -- at least -- acknowledging the fact that a photograph fof a Leeke doll was used at some stage in her art, even if she's not directly admitting to tracing over it? (Or, in fact, even if Leeke gave their "permission" or not...)

That's quite a step, considering what the situation was just a few days back.

    18. wow, that leekeworld thing surprises me o__o
i thought the ears/head thing were really weird.

if we find the original jellyfish picture, it will not matter if leeke gave her permission or not, if the photographer contacts her and tells her to take it down she will have no choice unless she wants a lawsuit slapped on her.

    19. The thing with the Leeke photo/doll copy is that it might not actually be a copy. Unless they admitted to it of course; I am not up to date on that little side story.

But how common is it to put a baby in a Mickey Mouse styled hat? I've seen numerous photos of children in furry animal hats such as theese, and I even have a picture of myself in one like that, only it was with cat ears. This could just be a coincidence.

However, if it's not, I do not feel the desire to ever buy that sculpt or even any Leekeworld dolls at all. Unless they credit the artists work on the bottom of the page that is. Any company that needs to copy other works to sell their dolls is just like Mijn Schatje. They both need to steal other artists work to make a profit.

This has me thinking now; how many other companies have done this? Are some of our other favorite sculpts copies too? And for that matter; what about the poster on my wall? Anything and everything could be plagerized, as wrong as that is.

For example, that Dollmore dress that was an exact copy from the anime Kuroshitsuji. The dress Ciel wore was displayed proudly on the Dollmore website, as if it was their own design. There was no crediting involved. They probably assumed that the BJD community was so small that the Kuroshitsuji people would never notice.

Hmm. Does that sound familiar? Mijn assumed that the BJD community was so small that the world wouldn't notice. Those that plagerize should be punnished, no matter how much we love that company or artwork or what have you. You have to be fair in not only being mad at Mijn, but at Leekeworld, Dollmore, and whatever other thing you find that is a copy of someone else's work.

    20. I<3MySD, he sculpt was a direct copy of a photograph, down to the lips :) It is NOT a Mickey Mouse styled hat.
