1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. That etsy link is now no longer working.

    2. Did you not read my last post? I just said that the seller pulled the item when I pointed out to her she was in breach of copyright. She pulled it over half an hour ago.

    3. Good job on that, Arkady! At least they were courteous enough to take it down, instead of insisting they got permission and leaving it up like some people we know...

But charging money for something ripped off that anyone with MSPaint could achieve? Low. I don't understand people anymore.

    4. I was sitting here reading my Machiavelli and had a scathingly brilliant idea (tongue in cheek). Since Mijn doesn't seem to mind the unethical use of others art maybe what we should do is turn the table on her. Say, make up t-shirts with her artwork on the front, sell them as our own and split the profits with the original artist, I'm sure she wouldn't mind...sorry, couldn't help it. When I look at the list of people she copied and saw some favourite doll artists as her victims my blood fizzled thinking of all their hard work, time and creativity being casually lifted for someone elses profit.

    5. That seems counterproductive to me? I doubt the BJD companies whose photos are getting taken would view that very kindly.

    6. Sheesh...guess you don't know what tongue in cheek means...

    7. Oh no, I understand. Most people - even those who don't read Machiavelli - have a good perception of what tongue in cheek is. I just don't think that'd help the current situation at all, considering the theft is between her and the people she stole from, and the only sensible thing I can see everyone else doing is spreading the word about her plagiarism. :daisy

    8. Actually my husband suggested something similar to that; a calendar or something of the sort created exactly the way she created her work, with the profits divided between the the owners whose personal photos were stolen and the new creator. Perhaps even prints. Obviously there is a market for this, he said, and why not take her market away from her?

Edit: since there are several GOOD artists here who know the techniques, it kind of follows that what would be produced would be better than anything she's done.

    9. What exactly would that solve?

Personally I wouldn't buy a T-shirt or a calender or anything depicting anything that I'm aware of being stolen or plagiarized.

    10. I think Victoria Victrix was talking about doing it the right way...getting permission, make the same type of art, and split the profits. I do not think she is saying rip of artists and photographers.

    11. It seems she's the photographer, or at lest her profile includes this line: "Using the doll as my portrait subject I have created my photography thesis “Perception”." I think it's the same doll throughout as well, with digital manipulation of the features, possibly a Peaks Woods Sky? Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to contact her and check whether it's her own doll and her own photography, and ask her to credit the doll and maker. But if it's her own photography I don't think it's nearly so bad.

    12. :?

Why would anything be stolen or plagiarized? Why would I even suggest such a thing? Use the same photos that Mijn used with owner permission, use the same techniques, produce similiar (better) images and (hopefully) profit for everyone. There is clearly a market for this, and taking that market away from her would be the best revenge of all.

    13. Kinda old, but I'm still up for doing a news post on DA about her if someone is willing to write something up for me. Or even say where the best current source of information I can post in a news thread is... Maybe from Radiotrash's site?

Would that be okay if I copied the text from there with maybe a few of the overlay examples?

^^; Any thing to get this more publicity on DA would be good really, and a news post is the best way to go.

    14. Yeah I asked but since no one PMd me with anything, I'm actually writing something up for it tonight and I'll post it tomorrow. I'm not going to say much, just link the site and explain the allegations. I saw someone recently posted something similar about a family photo stolen from someone and used as a big window display overseas and basically they just linked to the blog it was on.

So anyway I'll post it tomorrow early afternoon and link it here once I've done it :)

    15. No, I think I didn't make my point clear ^^; The fact that Mijn plagiarized the images in the first place, and then the reprinting of plagiarized images onto the T-shirts is what I have a problem with. That and it just seems....futile, really.

    16. We wouldn't be using HER images though, rather images of our own creation that are SIMILAR to Mijn's, only legitimate and legal because the proper permissions have been granted.

I think it's a good idea - not only are we bringing her down, but then if we did the same thing in the RIGHT WAY and became successful, it'd really show her. I'm all for it, and I'll help out in any way I can, too.

    17. Ah, I misunderstood, then :X I'd be interested to see how that'd pan out.

    18. I would be happy to volunteer! My skills with paint/canvass and digital-painting are at your command. :D

The only thing I would need is funding (To produce the art prints and distribute them) and good publicity.

      (( PM'd you))

    19. Oh, that's really nice! :D I hope she'll enjoy the hobby! :)

(Regarding the Leeke Milch situation... I went to the Leeke site to show my boyfriend the comparison between Milch and Oleg Dou's art, and Milch appears to have been taken down from the site. I wonder if this is permanent or temporary until they have settled the matter, perhaps...?)

And... it seems that Mijn hasn't released any more art, as of yet...
