1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. it really is o___o
all he did was put some filters and blur bits and pieces here and there.

all this plagiarism is getting ridiculous.

    2. I assume that owner has been notified?

It really is getting out of hand - and in this guy's case, I don't get how submitting something that is completely unoriginal and someone else's photo and getting praised is at all gratifying. I mean he did absolutely nothing that my grandma couldn't figure out in PSP. It's so frustrating.

    3. I agree!

How do you even stealing Headstones?! I went to Salem way, way back and they won't even let you do stone rubbing, let alone stealing a headstone! Did they return it after class? Or toss it away, and how irresponsible the prof was to even praise that kind of behavior.

    4. I agree. This thread has really brought home the reality that people steal images, and expect to get away with it, not that I didn't know it was going on before, but it wasn't in a way that was related to things I really cared about. I'm pretty disheartened by the fact that they receive so much praise for someone else's work, too. It makes it difficult for me to trust digital artists without doing initial research on their work.

The upside is that it also makes me think a lot more about my own art which references other people's work, and highlights the importance of permission and crediting and good manners. (Not that I didn't believe in permission and crediting before, but they've taken on even more importance in my eyes.)

    5. For all the quotes that have been misused and brought up I've got a good one...

"Great minds think alike, greater minds think for themselves."

I like to say that when someone brings up things like this to back up their copying/thievery.

    6. I've now reported that image to deviantART as a copyright violation. There's a little "report this deviation" button beneath every deviation on deviantART, and two of the categories you can report it as are "Art Theft" and "Theft of MY art", depending on whether it's your copyright that's been violated or someone else's. In both cases, you should provide the URL of the original image or page where it was found.

If people did this more often, people might not feel they could get away with it quite so often - at least on deviantART, anyway; that particular image has been up since February. God only knows how many more there are out there that we don't know about yet. :|

    7. I already reported it too, before I commented here.

Unfortunately, it could be a little while before it gets dealt with. Or at least that's how it seems to happen on dA, since there's so many reports for them to deal with.

    8. DIM has posted an official warning to Mijn Schatje on their site:

We are very surprised to see that so many commertial activities have been made and it's not stopped by

Mijn Schatje who is using DIM official image for her commertial use without any permission.

I(owner of DIM) have warned her by e-mails several times to take off all our images from websites,

however, it doesn't seem to work out.

We will seriously take action with any help from local people in Europe to against the illegal thing.

We demand Mijn to take all the DIM image down immediately and do post her sincere apology officially at her site as well as the commertial sites about the illegal use of our official photo.

Otherwise, we will do whatever we can do against her.

I hope Mijn schatje realizes how many people are angry about this issue and they deserve the apology from Mijn who is still not knowing how serious it is.

    9. Whoo!!! Go DIM!!! Seriously, this is the sort of legal push people like Mijn need to see.

You're not going to get away with it, in short.

    10. Actually, to be honest the sort she needs to see is a legal cease and desist from an actual lawyer.

    11. Wahoo, Denny! I'm proud to own my Minimee! ^_^

(Also worth noting is the announcement under it where he seeks partners for artwork. Well played indeed.)

    12. i also agree with u,she is talent

    13. According to Mijn Schatje (aka Marie Blanco Hendrickx) Facebook entry: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mijn-Schatje/119214295108
"Future projects include a group show with Miss Van and Liz McGrath (Espace GHP, Toulouse), "Urban Superstar" exhibition at the Napoli Madre Museum, an artist monography, a solo show at Dorothy Circus Gallery (Roma) in early 2010 and a solo show at Corey Helford Gallery (L.A.) in late 2010."
      ---------------------------
She is still going full steam ahead with selling her images. http://adhocart.org/index.php?optio...=inline&gid=75&limit=1&Itemid=70&limitstart=3
" "Lost Baby Mermaid", 60cmX60cm, strictly limited edition Giclee print on rag archival paper, hand signed and numbered, edtion of only 8 - $1300.00 (framed and matted)only 1 left from the edition of 8"
      That is a total of $10,400 !
      ---------------------------
She can't claim poor communication--she was quoted here http://www.creativematch.co.uk/viewlisting.cfm/42527
      here http://w3csites.com/profile.asp?u=mrhenry and here http://encarta.msn.com/mijn.html
      with the following statement:

Mijn Schatje point fr Mijn Schatje is Marie Blanco Hendrickx. I'm an artist living in Paris. I'm french but half dutch and half spanish, but I can only speak french and english... http://www.mijnschatje.fr

Interestingly enough, the statement seems to be removed from her own web page.
      .

    14. Perhaps it might be wise for someone to buy tickets for Volks LA to attend the gallery event in person with dolls.

/would do it in a heartbeat if she had such funds.

    15. I live just in front of Dorothy Circus Gallery...
if she's coming to this event, I could bring photos of "the said used without permission" dolls and see what she says

I wish I had any of the brands whose pics she stole from, but still it would be interesting seeing her reaction in front of the evidences...
and then I can warn the Gallery about the situation..

    16. What you could do, is take a print out the letters of Luts and D.I.M (Include the ULRs so that they can find it for themselves.) They must be the letters expressly telling her to stop using their images.
Print out a few of the comparison overlays on radiotrash.org to provide proof. (It would be wise to also include the Luts and D.I.M images.)

If you are going to do this, you must be professional. You are simply bringing information.
Dont' yell scream protest. just simply provide them with the facts. and tell them what the Ball jointed doll community believes she is doing.
( I would tell them that there is a possibility that the Doll companies that she stole the images from may take legal action against her.)

You are going to want to speak to the gallery manager, or the person as high up as you can speak to. If they already know of the situation, it doesn't hurt to make sure that They are aware that a whole art community knows of Mijin Schatje's Plagiarism.

Having a physical person speak to them instead of receiving emails. Will make more of an impact, because it it shows that the Doll-art community means business.

If anyone is going to do what I had prescribed, They must be well presented and professional. A calm informative meeting will speak volumes about the seriousness of Mijin Schatje's Plagiarism.

((So no staging protests, handing out leaflets, rioting ect. on gallery grounds you shouldn't even suggest such things. ))

I had used to be involved with a local gallery for quite a bit, and hopefully they will be willing to as least listen to what people have to say.

    17. I agree with you!

Plus I'm not the kind of person who yells or scream in protest at all, so even if it would be the best way of doing, I wouldn't be able to LOL

Since, according to the gallery schedule [ http://www.dorothycircusgallery.com/upcoming.php ] her solo show will be next year, for the moment I can go there and explain the situation to them, since I really doubt they know anything about it and see what happens, maybe at least they would change the terms of her show, to a collage artist one or something...

    18. As far as I know this is in the works.

      -Nadja

    19. At this point Mijn has admitted that she uses dolls for 'inspiration' and a few days ago posted pictures of her friend Tanya's dolls on one of her websites (and stated that they were her friend Tanya's dolls)...they didn't look like the pictures that she actually traced, but they were some of the doll sculpts she has used.

Even if people know that she is using dolls as models, the point is that she used copyrighted photos from company and individual artist sites to trace over for her graphics.

You can argue that an image 'looks' like a certain doll, but radiotrash's site demonstrates that she has taken other peoples' photos and directly traced them to the point where she has left in details like gaps where the glass eye does not fit the eye socket exactly... I doubt that her 'childlike imagination' would have come up with that.

I fully agree with Elysion gear... creating a scene at a gallery is not the way to go, but making a presentation to the gallery with the documentation (the photo overlays, the letters from the company/copyright holder's sites, and internet addresses to said sites) is merely presenting evidence to an involved party. They can make up their own minds since there is no court order to back it up at the moment (and may never be one unfortunately) but at least there is a chance that they will represent her graphics for what they are.

    20. And in fact, if you mention there is litigation pending, they may decide to cancel her show rather than risk getting caught up in the middle of potentially messy legal action. They would be afraid of getting sued themselves.
