1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. I don't pay that much attention to those rabid retorts in defense of this plagiarist. :| Based on their tasteless responses, I'm thoroughly convinced that they are nothing more than just Mijn-"marks" (pardon the wrestling slang :sweat) --- worshipers who refused to see and realize the seriousness of Mijn's crime even if proper evidence is already shoved on their faces.

    2. I think she gets her friends to post that support stuff....or her family.

Every single person I have linked Radiotrash's site to saw it the same as myself. Honestly I expected at least one work mate to argue that she was not coping or something. All of them thought her work lacked integrity....no matter what the laws say.

    3. Previous entry:
This person is totally unapologetic for LIKING MS' images.
btw, he refers to people on DoA as "thugs" stalking his site...
      http://mikephilbin.blogspot.com/2008...n-schatje.html

Per his mid-July update, the writer removed his reference to "thugs on DoA" and replaced it with "...gangs of Clockwork Orange thugs who go round trying to destroy anything that's good." and continues to say "Learn, get educated, not bleat like sheep."

We are not fooled--at least we are using our brains to discern original and otherwise. It seems to me, he's the one who is a sheep--ooohing and ahhhing with fellow admirers of MS's images and spouting his pretentious references to art history to defend it. If it was genuine and original artwork, a defense, or even a justification, would not be needed.

    4. What a fool that guy is. "Anything good..." He thinks that copied crap is good? Really? The only pretty aspects of any of her "work" is the faces of the subjects - which as we know are the sculpts of company dolls captured in photos BY SOMEONE ELSE. Even the CROPPING and angles in most of them are the same. Total imbecile, this guy.

Anyway, dA news post has like 114 favs so we did good on that!

    5. He obviously won't change his mind regardless of anything that's shown or explained to him. I guess it's best to not get distracted by him... he's only one guy. Think of all the people and companies who have already re-considered Mijn's statements and claims instead!

    6. very good website that shows the photos she painted over to make her "art". She took company photos and just colored over them a bit.

    7. xD That's the site that started this whole thread... It's the OP's site.

    8. BWAHAHAHA! It's self-published!!! In other words, my friends, he couldn't get a REAL publisher to take it and he had to pay someone to publish it FOR him!

OK it is one thing to self-publish a book of BJD photos and promote it yourself; this is a niche market and there is not a publisher in the world who is going to be interested in something that will sell a couple thousand copies slowly.

It is quite another to self-publish a work of fiction. That is...sad. If he put half the time into researching what goes into fiction that is good enough to get a real publisher to handle it that he spends pontificating on his blogs about, well, us, he might actually get a book published for real, instead of having a garage full of sad cartons of books that will go into a landfill.

    9. LMAO I DIDN'T KNOW THAT! Haha I love it! The title alone of that crap is enough to make me cringe, I can't imagine who would read it. And I'm not going to buy anything from someone who supports an art plagiarist and insults people on his stupid blog. Thugs? Sheep? If standing up for what's right makes me a thug, then I'm proud to be one of the loudest thugs in the herd xD.

    10. The title alone tells me precisely how much I should value his opinions, to be utterly frank.

    11. That video was truly frightening... and conveyed next to nothing about the plot or theme of his book... just that it contains a lot of white stuff and something corporate.

He'll never know the feeling of someone plagiarizing his work, because, well, someone would have to read it first.

    12. For future reference before making such arrogant claims (and ignoring the book or whatever it is in question), you should consider that the best writers aren't going to be on a major publisher, the best musicians on a major label and the best painters in a prestigious museum; instead, they will be found next door, or perhaps even without a home, broke and slaving away.

    13. Couldn't agree more with this.......no sense at all.....'Phlilbin' surname should be change to 'Fill Bin' ( with all his rubbish books)............

He can support Mijn Schajte all he wants....I don't think he's going to influence anyone.....

      xen :)

    14. Also: don't listen to a guy who chases down every single review of his book on GoodReads.com, & harasses anybody who gave a negative review-- claiming that they're committing "slander" and "rabble-rousing" and "attempt[ing] to cause a rucus [sic]". This is the same response he's had to Mijn Schatje's critics: Hysteria. If you don't like this artwork, well, the problem isn't that it's crappy, no! The problem is that YOU are one of those meanie jackbooted thugs who's out to squash everything good & individual! People know what they know-- a crap book is crap, and copied doll-artwork is wrong-- some sorry self-published Michael Gira wannabe isn't going to be very effectual in changing minds with tactics like that. So, now that we've given him this much airspace making fun of him *hee*, we should return him to his wee cubbyhole of obscurity.

(And even there on Goodreads, while promoting a novel he expects to be taken seriously, he still constantly breaks into ALL-CAPS whenever he wants to make a point, preacher-style... XD)

    15. Sorry to jump in here, but VV is certainly an expert on that subject, which I can attest to - I take seriously anything she has to say regarding books and publishing.

Anyway, I agree that we've given this guy more than enough attention - it doesn't look like he's going to be swayed, and we said what we could. If anything, people might see his rantings and be turned off to his material even if they're not doll or art people. I believe he's shot himself in the foot. So let's leave him alone with his anger and focus on our ultimate goal which is of course to put an end to Mijn's plagiarism.

    16. I general I agree. One should look at the work before dismissing it just because of how it's been distributed; a lot of very good work is just too niche to attract the attention of a major publisher. Or the artist just hasn't sent it to the right publisher yet.

On the other hand, sometimes the way the creator has chosen to promote their work, tells you all you need to know about it, or them.

    17. Hmmmmm we should not waste our time on that guy at all. It is a free world and he can write what he likes. Personally I think he sounds extremely simple :) Insulting people to make your point never makes the point ya know.

Luckily, it only hurts Mijn to have this guy sticking up for her! yey. We just all need to keep representing ourselves very well and no one will ever mistake us for "thugs."

So back to talking about Mijn....

    18. There's nothing wrong with someone self-publishing for whatever reason, and it doesn't automatically mean they have no talent. However, due to the fact that any computer literate person can easily self-publish with one of the POD publishers, it's not something that can really be used to prove a person's competency as a writer--not without a boatload of good reviews, anyway. That's why using his self-published book as a reason why his opinion should carry more weight makes him look like a pompous ass in the end. Though, quite frankly, with his attitude it doesn't matter what he's gotten published how, he'll still come off as an ass. People just do not seem to realize how much they damage their own reputations with their behavior.

    19. Good suggestion. ^^ Please remember the real subject of discussion here and try to refrain from getting too much off-topic.
