1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. Ok, this lady is being wrong. There is no way that those way those aren't traces and i am very upset >:( . Im getting a bjd for a creative photography hobby (and maybe a painting or to) but i would never sell, or post these pics without a form of recognition for the company and doll make not to mention their approval! I think this is....is.... is just to wrong for words. I mean how hard would it be to say yea i was inspired by bjds, but no she claims otherwise. I think she is now afraid of her pride being damaged, i would never buy her "artwork". I feel terrible for all the people she has in a sense cheated out of recognition. I think this is verry sad and angering.

    2. so after spending a lot of time reading all of this, i feel depressed that it still hasnt been resolved. situations like this amaze and disgust me. :{ i dont think the "art" is even good...

    3. I think what's she's doing is wrong too. I'm an artist and used to sell my paintings on ebay until I saw blatant copies of my work appearing. It's not a nice feeling.

A good artist is creative and innovative, and copying someone else's work is definitely not being creative.

    4. No one seems to respect copywrites any more. My sister did what can be called an iconic photo of a musician for a regional magazine. Some jerk was not only selling mouse pads of the image but telling her he had the magazine's permission. Fortunately the magazine was on my sister's side and the lawyer and Ebay came to her aid.

If you are being ripped off on Ebay by all means tell them, they want to know and want to shut these peoples' accounts down.

    5. This is so true. I have helped shut down some people for duplicating Muppets and selling them. Copyright is important. And these dolls are covered by international copyright as are the photos.

Once you create it (doll, puppet, art), you own the image and what happens to that image.

    6. Especially since she is now branching out into jewelry! :-(

I don't know if www.lamarelle.net haven't done a simple Google search for Mijn Schatje or, worse, they know about the controversy and just don't care.

    7. Hmmmmmm, it's been a while since I visited this thread.....I can't believe she is still producing "copies"......grrrrrrr................ How can this have gone on for so long.....her reputation is tarnished to say the least...surely buyers can see for themselves that purchasing her goods is just not right :(
A copy is a copy...... come on....who wants to pay huge $$'s for a copy???:vein

To me this kind of "art" is not "real" art at all......It just looks so perfectly "plastic".....Cheap and nasty...So "here and now"....The kind of stuff you only keep on the wall for a year maybe...then dump it!

Give me "real" art any time.....good old hand drawn/painted stuff :fangirl: Thats Art in it's finest form ;)

I'd like to know if this woman has any dolls of her own?.....:huh?: Why didn't she go out and buy a few ABJD's for herself and photograph them ????....
My gawd...if you're going to sell pictures of ABJD's at least own some of your own.....:huh?:
Sorry, but this sort of thing really gets under my skin! I love these dollies and I just loathe seeing someone doing this......:vein

    8. I actually sent an article about her to the art program I just graduated from:
      Illustration & Design.

The problems seems that she is denying it, saying she had the permission. But most of the time when she was granted it, she never mentioned that it was for commercial art.

She has worked with a lot of big companies and I guess there is still a lot of people who do not know about this. Hi Fructose is a art magazine and they have ads of her stolen artwork in it. I haven't sent them a heads up about her yet.

    9. i was going to post something about this morning!
but thank you so much chizzie_shark for doing so!
      what i think?
This is so selfish of her, that's what i think, why`? when she is tracing those images she did not think of the people who worked so hard to desigen the doll or for the matter a fact her reputation as an artiest, she didn't only trace photos of bjd's`! also styles from other artiest.

this makes me worried, for the dolls sakes, i mean there owners have worked so hard on them taking photos and such but like i said she is selfish and stealing is stealing i cant see why is she doing what she dose still with out being charged of such a crime? and this makes me think as well, are all of our bjd safe from being copied as art and so on, not only from her, from other scam artiest as well?

    10. she STILL hasen't been stopped?! What the hell? How ignorant most people must be not to look at our evidence..or at LEAST research! I for one look up almost everything I can find about something when i get into something new, especially keeping up with the information....this just shows how niiave people can be. I feel really bad for those involved as these dolls are VERY VERY personal to us here in the BJD community...

    11. This is so dirty!! As an artist it makes me so angry, I hope this woman is stopped soon.

    12. Is there really nothing that can be done about this? It seems on her facebook, people just keep writing positive comments. And this makes me a little angry, they believe it is her own original art. What to do?

    13. I think the best way to approach is to tip modern art magazines about this and see what they do with this information.

    14. I am so happy everyone here is against this kind of thing. In some communities I've been to, I don't think people would see a problem with it. >_<;;; But I agree, it is low and disgusting. Does she have any self-respect at all? How can you look at a painting of a face you copied and be proud? How can you look at pictures you've drawn that came from someone else's mind and feel like you've accomplished anything? How can she live like that???

    15. Is that doll a Narae?

I would hope that La Marelle cared about copyrighting.

I think this is one of the cases where BJD being a niche hobby is not a positive thing. I do believe that some of the people selling Mijn Schatje's work don't care as much as they should because most people are unaware of what BJDs are and will just take the artwork at face value i.e. Mijn Schatje came up with it all by herself.

However, I just Googled her again and one of the first things that came up is 'Mijn Schatje art thief', followed by 'Mijn Schatje thief', so if anyone cared to Google her to find out more about her they would be confronted with that.

    16. The average person probably doesn't care if a likeness is stolen. Imitation is the highest form of flattery and so on. I personally think it's sheisty to knowingly do it without permission. Yet, if she's good at what she does she will continue to make money regardless of her lack of artistic integrity.

    17. MS' web page text appears to have been unchanged since late 2009. The last paragraph still states "...a group show with Miss Van and Liz McGrath...exhibition at the Napoli Art Pallazio Museum...a solo show at Dorothy Circus (Roma) in early 2010...a solo show at Corey Helford Gallery."

Don't give up--keep calling attention to MS' unethical tactics via email, blogs, and discussions. It hasn't been fruitless. People and businesses with consciences have removed MS' images and questioned her dishonerable behavior.

Only the ignorant continue to ooh and ahh over the knockoffs. And those who value the almighty dollar/yen/Euro etc., continue to sell MS' rubbish to the ignorant. Speak with your money--don't buy it. And keep up the information campaign.

    18. That HORRID COW! Who does she think she is ripping off other people's hard work?? I hope she gets burned by this- and badly. LOUSY CHEAT!!!

I had no idea about all this- I was just browsing the debate forum and came across this and I'm glad I did- people who put this amount of hard work into their dolls practically having their beautiful art stolen right from under them! What is this world coming to????

    19. I would hope so as well. Has anyone contacted them about this?

For what it's worth, nearly all the hits I get when I google her are related to this issue. There's the radiotrash site as well as a couple of blogs/journals and a couple of ezines talking about it, so it would appear that we are doing some good in getting the word out about her.

EDIT:And can I just point out the irony of This myspace comment by her which I found while googling "Mijn Schatje Art Thief"? (Scroll down, third reply to the op.) Old, I know, but I still find it interesting.

    20. That's very ironic. The statement, '... dolls are my cup of tea' is also interesting. I would be surprised if she even owned one. She appears to be an avid collector - of other people's pictures!
