1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Artists Using Doll Likenesses without Crediting [Mijn Schatje discussion]

May 31, 2009

    1. wow... this is the first time I'm reading or hearing about this and it absolutely infuriates me.
Just look at these comparisons of her stolen art next to actual BJD photos...
      http://youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com/blog3/?tag=mijn-schatje

What a thief! Isn't there a lawsuit against her yet? I could think of a lot of deserving titles for her but I know there are younger eyes here. I'm going to post this on my facebook. I'm not in the art community, but I am going to send this to a family relative who is an artist in Switzerland and ask her to circulated it amongst her artist friends too.

I'd suggest everyone else do the same.

After thought... I know the BJD companies are competition to each other in many ways... but maybe they could band together to sue the pants off this french fraud?

    2. I hate how she's getting away with this, isn't there a way to get the doll companies moving at least to stop her?

    3. As an artist I do understand the need and/or begin inspired by your reference. It was something I learned early when I was living with a well-known print maker/painter. I was shocked to see him borrow so literally from the photographs he had taken- I thought his works had been completely original! It is very common for artists to borrow from photographs so that part isn't very shocking...

When I first read this thread I thought, "How close could it possibly be?"

I was completely floored. The blatant, exact tracing and use of the exact same colors is really unforgivable. Mijn/Marie's failing is that she borrowed way too heavily from her original subject and often times without permission. (It's different, of course, when the original photos are not yours!!!) It's a shame since she obviously does have a ton artistic talent that she did not estimate the loyalty/dedication/observational powers of the BJD crowd. It's certainly something she needs to be called out on- and, boy howdy, she definitely has.

The only I know for certain is that she's probably always going to be producing new art. As I said earlier, the talent/drive is there- I just wish she'd use her talents on her own, original creations. she could have had the fandom of the BJD community, not the disgust.

      Oh well.
