1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Asked details about your doll - how do you feel?

Mar 8, 2013

    1. What do you feel when you get asked which eyes, clothes, make up etc does your doll have?

I don't mind at all. I think it's nice that people are looking, even if it means they are only noticing a wig or whatever!

Is it annoying to get asked about these details, or does it make feel proud that your artistic approach has been appreciated?

Not annoying at all. And yes, I'm happy that others seem to like the things I've chosen (although it wouldn't bother me to NOT be asked--it's cool either way).

Would you prefer people would admire your doll, their story and the image you created instead of asking you anatomical questions, and feel frustrated then?

Nah. Don't care about what they are appreciating (or not appreciating). I like to be helpful, actually, so asking is fine with me.

Do you prefer to write info about your doll right away when you post their pictures?

I TRY to post info with photos, but sometimes I might forget or I might not know where the items came from...

Or do you feel these details take the whole fun away?

No. Actually, it annoys me if people don't even identify the doll sculpts they are posting, because sometimes I'd like to know!

Or perhaps you feel you feel fear someone will copy your doll which you would hate to happen.

Totally do not mind if anyone wants to copy my dolls. It's up to them. I enjoy my doll and that's all that matters. But, really, it's not easy to copy a doll! Anyway, I have fullsets with default faceups, so I know that there are other dolls like some of mine out in the world. It's fine with me. It doesn't make my dolls any more or less special to me.

I really love to see as much information as possible about dolls. If I'm interested and impressed by a doll, I like to know more about them.

    2. If I can remember, I don't mind. Lately I've been blogging what and where, so that helps me keep track. A few years ago I would have laughed at the idea of not remembering where things came from, but now with two plastic drawer sets over flowing....yeeeeaaaahhhh.....

    3. In a hobby like this where there are so few resources available unless you can custom your own stuff, I have no issue whatsoever telling people about anything. In fact, if people just say something of mine is pretty, I will go ahead and tell them what it is and where to get it unasked. I really appreciate when other people are nice enough to do the same.

    4. I'm so glad to see that there are a lot of people here who don't mind getting asked those kinds of questions about their dolls! I've seen BJD collectors in person on occasion (usually at cons) with some really gorgeous dolls, but I've always been afraid to ask them questions. I wasn't sure if people considered that sort of thing offensive or not. (I mean, obviously it's going to vary a lot from one person to another, but it's nice to know there are so many people out there that don't mind.)

I'm always happy to answer questions about anything of mine. Though it's kind of embarrassing when people ask me where I got something and I can't remember. :sweat

    5. I don't mind being asked at all, and I know I've asked other people in the past too. For some items its even a point of pride, actually, since I spent a long time trying to hunt them down/wait for the pre-orders to open and jump on the opportunity in like a 20-second window, heh. Or because the item that I have was actually custom-made by an artist based on my designs, so I actually feel like I was responsible for the making of a small part of it.

I mean, I probably would get a little suspicious if someone messaged me and basically wanted to know where each and every single part of the doll's final ensemble came from (not to mention annoyed, because that's a long list), but that has never happened to me before. Most people usually want to know one or two things at most - frequently because they've been trying to hunt down a similar style/colour and my stuff looked "right" to them.

    6. I asked SO MANY annoying questions as a newbie (ffffuuuuu, I still do).

At the very least I have a huge karmic debt in online arsehattery to try to balance out with elaborate answers to anything I might be asked.

    7. What's to mind? Isn't the hobby about sharing? I might be a little o.O if someone wanted to know every detail so he/she could replicate my doll, but things like wigs, eyes, clothes, even who painted them? My artists are some of the most wonderful people, I'd love to be able to send more business their way. :D

    8. I don't mind giving out all the details on my dolls. It also helps me to remember all the details on each doll. I sometimes forget the dolls maker and name so repeating this information helps me remember.

    9. What do you feel when you get asked which eyes, clothes, make up etc does your doll have? Is it annoying to get asked about these details, or does it make feel proud that your artistic approach has been appreciated?
When I'm asked questions I don't find it annoying.... I still remember being new, not only here, but to BJDs as a whole, and having my questions completely ignored by people who'd been in the hobby a while. It's...not so much fun. I would hate to be that person, who can't take 5 minutes of time to answer where a wig came from.

There is a lot of information out there, not just on DOA...it's hard to find that one little detail sometimes - especially if you're not familiar with the search terms. If I have a wig/eyes/whatever that's perfect for someone's doll, that they've been looking for everywhere, I understand that it's a lot easier to pm or note me than it is to try and search all over the planet for it.

Would you prefer people would admire your doll, their story and the image you created instead of asking you anatomical questions, and feel frustrated then?
Again, don't care. I don't always post story with my dolls anyway, sometimes they're just up for the pretties, and if people notice the wig/eyes/clothes/faceup/other, they're obviously looking and appreciating, so yay!

Do you prefer to write info about your doll right away when you post their pictures? Or do you feel these details take the whole fun away? Or perhaps you feel you feel fear someone will copy your doll which you would hate to happen.
Way back in the day I used to post every detail...now I just do company, mold, faceup and usually wig because those are the questions I get asked the most (I used to get asked about Uriel's eyes all the time - they were Dollmore Acrylics and now they're sold out lol I take credit for that!! XDD). If I have a special item of clothing that was commissioned for my dolls I usually post the maker of that as well (mostly because I'm so excited my dolls have clothes that fit). Otherwise I don't bother. As for fear of copying, I honestly don't believe anyone would copy the few dolls I own that I am actually protective over, and the others look pretty much like everyone elses anyway so who cares!

Hmmmmm....this makes me want to go make some sort of database for all my dolls...so I know where everything came from XD

    10. I've always really appreciated people who answered my questions about where to find certain items, based on their own experience. Seeing how they used different items with their own dolls can be helpful, especially in a hobby where much of what is purchased comes from overseas (for me at least!). It's nice to see owner pictures of wigs, clothes, and hybridized dolls before buying expensive parts. It also seems more respectful when doll owners give credit to the artist who painted their doll, or the maker of a particularly ornate outfit. It showcases the work that they commissioned without taking credit away from the artist who made it possible. Besides using owner pictures for inspiration, I think a lot of us just want to see what has worked and what hasn't. Everyone will have a unique interpretation of the same wig or pair of eyes, so long as they have a vision of the character they are trying to achieve.
There's a lot of room for versatility in this hobby. Although, I really wouldn't mind if someone went all-out and made an exact copy of my doll, because there is so much of his character that cannot be physically copied. I would not consider it offensive if someone asked me where I found something; in fact, I would gladly recommend a company that was easy to work with. I guess that's because for me, the character is really the most precious part of the doll, and everyone's characters are different. :)

    11. I don't mind answering questions either and wouldn't mind if someone copied the look of one of my dolls. They're just dolls.

    12. I'm that kind of people that always ask :?
I really appreciate when they answered me.

    13. I don't mind it. Especially at conventions- it seems to almost turn into a guessing game, then. That and Lain's eyes are very unusual and I have no idea where they came from (the boyfriend says from someone on ebay) so if anybody ever sees them and recognizes them, that means I can maybe get another similar set.

    14. I love when people ask questions, whether they're into BJDs or not :) And I like to ask them too. Though sometimes when people don't respond well to a question I feel sort of like a bother, which is why I'm hesitant to ask questions online. In person, I can gauge their reaction to my questions and don't feel as nervous.

    15. I don't mind if the person is asking about things like eyes and wigs or whatever, but I get a little annoyed when I get a "what sculpt is that" because I post that info with all of my pictures.

    16. I don't mind being asked about my dolls at all. It's nice to know someone else likes your doll enough to ask. It's great getting info and pics from owners as I don't get to see a lot of bjds (except for meetups) in person and company pics can be a bit deceiving at times.

    17. I never posted pictures of my dolls online, but on meetings people tend to ask where do I got their clothes, since they are really pretty (hehe, is it okay to say this? ^^ ) I don't mind telling where I got them, as long as I don't have to TEACH people how to buy from yahoo auctions or taobao >_> On the last meeting I had 2 girls ask me to teach them how to use taobao or how to find stuff on it, i'm sorry but I simply don't have the time plus the SS has tutorials for that!

    18. I have always found people to be more than happy to answer questions about their dolls, as long as you're polite. The times I've been asked it made me feel great that someone liked my style enough to take an interest. And I've gotten some great tips that way, too.

    19. A friend of mine asked permission to look at my album on here. I was very shocked, i mean.. it's a public album you know? but then she went on to tell me that she has found quite a few people who do not like it when people look at their doll albums, and got rude and snotty with her, when she pmed them about liking a doll, or asking what such and such sculpt was o.0 To the point where she Asked permission....from me... to look at something i publicly posted.

I am always willing to talk about my dolls, and am very proud of them, i don't see why anyone would not be... I am always asked about mine when i take them places, because i often live in small towns, and end up getting people hooked on the hobby as well LOL

    20. I make a point of responding to all questions, even if they require to reveal some "secret recipes" or "tricks of the trade", as long as they are presented politely. I don't expect gushing compliments, but when someone writes, "Hi, where did you get that t-shirt? Thanks!" without even a kind word for the doll they saw it on, I feel taken advantage of and less compelled to help.
