1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Asked details about your doll - how do you feel?

Mar 8, 2013

    1. it is a compliment when someone asks what my dolls wear and I don't mind at all telling people :) why not share? and sometimes I write down what my dolls wearing when posting new pics.

    2. People often ask me about my dolls on Flickr. I like being asked and take it as a compliment.

    3. Why would I be annoyed? If someone were to ask me about my dolls, I think I'd feel proud that someone took the time to notice them and/or me. :)

To be perfectly honest, I don't mind the anatomical questions either. You have to realize that a lot of people in this hobby heavily modify/hybrid their doll, so if someone's asking you about the doll's aesthetic, I think it's something that just kind of comes with the territory. Since I haven't modified or hybridized my dolls, I wouldn't exactly jump at the question if someone were to ask me, but I wouldn't feel frustrated by it either. That'd be just silly.

Of course I'd prefer for them to admire the doll and the story I've created for them. I put a lot of time and care into my writing, so to be asked about it would make my day.

I'm just saying that I wouldn't penalize someone just because they're more interested in other aspects of the doll. (Aspects that OTHER people put a butt-load of time into.)

I'll be honest and say that I'm pretty limited about what I share, not because I fear it will take the fun away, but because I have far bigger plans for my stories. I'd hate to release story spoilers before my story's even out. Haha...

Welcome to the Den of Angels forum, dear. Rest assured that you're not the only newbie here. :)

    4. I don't mind sharing. Most of my dolls and their accessories are so long discontinued, good luck finding it if you're trying to copy. ;) Likewise, almost all their clothes are artist-made so you're not going to find the same item in a hurry.

    5. I always post the mold/brand of my bjds when I upload pictures, and since I make all of their clothes, I add that all of the clothes are by me. The eyes and wigs are from ebay, so I don't add that, but I welcome questions about bjds! I didn't have anybody to talk to about bjds when I was just starting out, so it's nice to help other people!

    6. As someone who is new to the community and BJDs, I have asked a few questions regarding certain dolls and wigs, and where I could find similar items. I have to say that the people I've asked have been wonderful and really helpful. I always make it clear that I'm trying to create a specific look that is already decided, and in no way wanting to copy their dolls. I think it's great that so many people are happy to share. I've found out more from a few simple questions than I ever have from trying to search for things randomly. :)

    7. I don't mind either! Ask away!

    8. It means they are actually interested. Most people will just look at you in a weird way and just walk off.
Whatever their intention for asking you in the first place, it is up to us as doll-collectors to change their mind for the better or worse.
I had someone whose first reaction was "ewww! Her creepy doll collection." But she kept asking me questions and I replied her in what way I could and eventually she changed her mind and viewed them as "her insanely expensive doll collection."

    9. I don't mind questions.
Sometimes I get asked and then I answer as well as I can and sometimes I am the one to ask. It balances itself out in the end. I agree with those who have mentioned that sometimes it is a little annoying when someone asks about something that has alredy been mentioned, but I can live with that. I'd rather answer that odd repeated question than having people worried to ask in the first place. After all, it doesn't happen that often.

As for questions from people outside of the hobby I think curiosity is a good thing and should be rewarded. :)

    10. What do you feel when you get asked which eyes, clothes, make up etc does your doll have? Is it annoying to get asked about these details, or does it make feel proud that your artistic approach has been appreciated?

Usually, I'm pretty pleased if someone likes anything enough about one of my dolls to ask about it.

Would you prefer people would admire your doll, their story and the image you created instead of asking you anatomical questions, and feel frustrated then?

Actually, as long as the person is not rude, I find it a little easier if they ask about the technical aspects of my dolls. While I love reading or listening to other collectors talking about their dolls' characters and stories, I find it harder to talk about the stories or meaning behind a picture. I become bashful.

Do you prefer to write info about your doll right away when you post their pictures? Or do you feel these details take the whole fun away? Or perhaps you feel you feel fear someone will copy your doll which you would hate to happen.

Well, I think sharing information about one's dolls is extremely helpful to new members of the community (and even for more experienced types, who might be curious about something). So, with some of my dolls, I have been very eager to list them in indexes and so forth. I also think it's uncool to keep things like seamstresses or face-up artists a secret; if I love their work, why would I not recommend them? However, I also understand how one can feel possessive about certain things, and for this reason, I think it's kind of lousy to directly copy anyone's OC doll if they've been open enough to tell you their sources.

    11. I definitely don't mind being ask (and asking) for these details! Questions like "Where did you get that wig?" and "what eyes is she wearing?" are great because usually it can introduce someone into a new brand or company. It's really knowledge-sharing, and that's really key in this hobby because without asking questions, I would know nothing!

    12. I'm happy to tell people where things come from - and I regularly ask people the same type of question.

I think that kind of question is a basic part of sharing photos (or taking the doll out in public) - and doubly so if your doll is a non-standard size, or you're aiming for an unusual style.

    13. Honestly, if someone asked, I'd probably link them to the website where I bought the thing they're asking about... I totally don't care about 'copying', I think we should all just have fun with our dolls and take pretty pictures and enjoy life.

    14. I think is great that people get interested enough to ask, usually I say where clothes and wig are from on the first post I make with them. I think is more fun when people share this details and others about face-up, etc.

    15. What do you feel when you get asked which eyes, clothes, make up etc does your doll have? Is it annoying to get asked about these details, or does it make feel proud that your artistic approach has been appreciated?
I am flattered whenever someone messages me about where I got my items, sadly it doesn't happen often. I don't get annoyed when people ask where I've bought my doll his/her accessories, it's only annoying when I don't know where the item is from because I feel bad and I think they think that I'm lying. It definitely makes me feel proud and happy if they actually buy items from a certain company thanks to me. It means that company will come up with more items to sell :)

Would you prefer people would admire your doll, their story and the image you created instead of asking you anatomical questions, and feel frustrated then?
I don't care really. I don't feel frustrated when someone asks me where something is from. Not sure what anatomical means in the question, like what body they're on? If that's the question, I don't mind, I love helping people with their hybrids! :) (not that it happens often)

Do you prefer to write info about your doll right away when you post their pictures? Or do you feel these details take the whole fun away? Or perhaps you feel you feel fear someone will copy your doll which you would hate to happen.

I don't write stories for my dolls. I buy dolls to paint them, that's probably the only thing I'm interested in in the hobby but a few of my dolls do have personalities, it's not something I do anymore though, maybe in the future?
If someone were to copy my dolls' personalities or stories I would feel flattered.

    16. I wouldn't mind sharing information. I've asked people about who did faceups, etc., not because I wanted a duplicate, but because I admired the artist's style and might want to commision her later on. I had someone admire a dress recently, and didn't mind sharing that it was actually manufactured for an off topic line of dolls and might be found on the secondary market. It would be like if someone admired something I was wearing--I usually let them know where I got it and if it was recent or not.
Now if someone started getting all single white female on me, that would be different, but I think the vast majority of people would only be asking out of admiration or wanting to expand their knowledge of resources.

    17. At a doll meet where a modder was giving me a doll I had just had extensively modded, some random girls kept asking me how much the doll was worth, and how much value the mods added onto the doll. I felt very uncomfortable, they didn't seem to understand that I didn't care if no one would be willing to pay more for the doll than the mods cost, because I would never sell the doll anyway.

    18. I'm always happy to answer questions about my dolls, I love being asked. And I also love when I ask something like this to other doll owner and my question is asked. I know there are people in this hobby that are afraid of someone copying the style of their doll so they never talk about these details.

    19. I don't mind when people ask me questions about my dolls, but I do know people who do. I understand that some people don't like to give out certain information about their doll, because they don't want people to copy them. I myself am always glad to help when I can, and I also appreciate when people help me.

    20. I will answer if I remember/know the detail.

      For example :
Q : "Where do you buy this outfit ?"
      A : "Oh, from *insert the company's name*" :3nodding:

Q : "Those eyes look so real, do you buy it from *certain company's name* ?"
      A : "Uh, I dunno ? Don't remember." ---> It's not I don't want to let you know, I mean it, I really don't remember. :doh

I don't remember where I bought those wigs as well.

I buy wigs in bulk, I mean... I can buy up to 10 wigs from 1 company, then another 5 wigs from different companies.

But I mostly remember about the outfits tho. :sweat
