1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Asked details about your doll - how do you feel?

Mar 8, 2013

    1. I don't mind when people ask these details about my dolls. However I will not tolerate if people copy my characters since I base many of my dolls on my own fictional characters and I don't want "fanart" or "fandolls" of those ;) . And by copying I of course don't mean "oh no this doll has the same SWEATER and a similar hair color as mine has! *waaah tantrum*" since that would just be overreacting.

Otherwise I usually try to post some info about the dolls and I always try to answer questions since really, I like to get a reply if I wonder something so then I should also make an effort to reply to people's question.

Of course I do like when people enjoy the character and story for them as well but it's not a must :)

    2. Nobody's asked me anything about my girl yet, obviously, as I've only posted a box opening so far and she's still a regular fullset while her new wig and eyes aren't here and I've only gotten one new dress made for her. However, I found her wig thanks to a lovely person who was willing to tell me where the wig one of her dolls wears is from (I'm very picky about the color and hers was exactly what I was after), she even went as far as providing me with photos of the wig in different light sources so I could be sure it was what I wanted, and I'm so grateful to her for that. So when my Tei looks more like herself and less like Xi Shi, I know I'll be happy to help if anyone has questions about her wig, eyes, clothes and whatnot. Pay it forward! Plus, unless the person is trying to copy EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of her, I don't see any reason not to be helpful. It costs nothing to be kind to others and we can all only gain from it!

    3. People were very kind to me when I was new to all this and answered many questions for me. So I am happy to do the same for others. Though actually no one has asked, as I rarely post pictures.

    4. I think it's a good thing to share where you got items from, sometimes things can be really hard to find and you've gotta help each other out! I do think there are some people who go out of their way to harass owners though, I've seen some comments along the lines of "I want to have a doll just like yours! Where did you get (item item item item)???"

    5. It really depends on the tone and context! But a lot of stuff I have a gifts or secondhand stuff so it might not be possible to find the original maker anymore...

    6. What do you feel when you get asked which eyes, clothes, make up etc does your doll have?

I feel happy because it means they liked my doll. :)

Is it annoying to get asked about these details, or does it make feel proud that your artistic approach has been appreciated?

Not annoying at all! I actually enjoy answering those questions and not only they boost my self-esteem, when people ask me about certain things about my dolls or give compliments, I feel like I want to improve more and more.

Would you prefer people would admire your doll, their story and the image you created instead of asking you anatomical questions, and feel frustrated then?

I like to interact with people and I often do the same (ask questions etc). Also, an artist lives of the feedback and compliments others give them. Wanting to have everyone just admiring and not saying anything is kind of dull and not what I would consider "humble".

Do you prefer to write info about your doll right away when you post their pictures? Or do you feel these details take the whole fun away? Or perhaps you feel you feel fear someone will copy your doll which you would hate to happen.

Details like backstories? I don't do or write backstories for my dolls. They have the basic stuff like the names, personalities and fashion styles but I was/am never interested in creating a life beyond that. Details like accessories/clothes/eyes etc? I hardly remember where I got them XD so I don't do it but I'm happy to answer if asked.. As for copying, this is what I think about it: "You can mimic a result but not the creativity".

    7. I'm really happy that people like my choices enough to maybe consider it themselves :)

    8. I love it when I get asked about the details of my doll. I like sharing how I got her to look so amazing or why I think she needs some upgrades. I like to believe I'm inspiring others to be active in the doll hobby!

    9. I think it's flattering to be asked-- none of my boys feel to me likely to be copied wholesale, they don't particularly stand out or seem trend-set-y that way, but some of the wigs/eyes/etc they have are nice things that could be incorporated into different looks, so if someone wanted to know, I would be happy to help (except in the cases where I don't know the provenance of a thing bc I got it secondhand/modded/it came as a gift with something else).

    10. I rarely show pictures (crappy mobile phone), though I wouldn't mind if someone asked me where to find what my BJDs wear. It is part and parcel of the hobby in my mind. I wish I took more pictures and took the time to show them.

    11. It fills me with joy whenever someone asks me about my dolls, I love explaining how bjds work. Recently one of my friends who isn't on the doll hobby has asked me questions, I don't think she knows how much that means to me.

    12. To be honest, I would probably feel more embarrassed than anything because when it comes to things like eyes/wigs/clothes, I can't remember! I purchased and outfitted a majority of my dolls a few years ago and from a variety of places, and I don't tend to switch out their looks very often so a lot of what they're wearing is fairly old. I don't keep written records of the things I buy, so I have a very difficult time remembering where exactly anything may have come from. The only thing I really remember is what body and head is from where (I do a lot of hybriding) as I always write those down in my profile.

But I wouldn't be offended. I assume if someone cares enough to ask that must mean they like it, which is quite flattering :)

    13. I dont mind giving details it's helpful. And i would love the same help in return. And it could also benefit the seller or company if you lead people to then so everyone wins! I also feel good when people like what i have an want it to makes me feel like i made a good decision.

    14. I usually post my doll's sculpt name and company. I wouldn't mind if someone asked me what items are on my dolls. The only problem is that I can't always remember where I got some items. Some are from the second hand marketplace while others are brand new.

    15. I'm always happy to share where I found something - provided I remember where I got it, that is.

    16. I just love gushing about my dolls!
I'm not afraid of anyone trying to copy them, because my dolls are kinda weirdly specific to my own preferred style. I do my half-decent faceups myself, all my own mod work, and make most of their clothes myself, including tiny boots. If anyone else manages to copy that identically... they almost deserve to.

    17. I don't mind telling where I got stuff for my doll. I mean it would help me if I were in their shoes, so I want to be helpful! No one can know every single BJD store's entire inventory. And advertising the shops I do like is good for them because I want these shops to stay in business for a long time!

And it also strokes my ego when the answer I can give is "I made it myself" ^_^

    18. I don't mind sharing where I got things from, as long as the person asking is polite. It takes half a second to add the "Hey, cute pic/doll!" before you launch into "Where is X from?" and it makes all the difference.

    19. i dont mind sharing the info, since i assume that (just like when i ask) they are unlikely to be trying to copy my doll , something they couldn't do anyway since i do my own faceups, but instead just see a feature or two that would would work well on their doll. with so many dolls out there it is highly unlikely that two are going to end up identical even if they happen to have the same wig or eyes. thats one of the best things about bjds is how diverse are dolls end up being!
