1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

At what age do you think it’s appropriate to get a doll?

Oct 3, 2021

    1. My granddaughter has her birthday close to Christmas so I bought her a vinyl Volks MSD girl. The doll is kept here so I can not only supervise playtime with doll but also the clothes changed. We play together as I have an MSD girl as well, but resin. It's a fun way for us to share a love of something that isn't video related. My granddaughter is 8 and in time she will either grow to love dolls even more or not, but for now we have this to do together.

    2. I don't tend to think of age limits when it comes to dolls more about financial. Espescially as I am a firm believer you do what you want with your money as long as not a menace to the world.

For my own dolls I am likely to be protective. I worked hard to purchase them and would be unlikely to lend them out unless in the hobby or close to me. And I was and am hard on a lot of my things.

Responsibility may come with age and experience but people are all different. So are kids.

    3. If they're dolls I consider works of art, I wouldn't give them to someone too young or rather...not appreciative enough. Other than that, as long as you love them and they bring you happiness, there shouldn't be an age limit.

    4. I was always very careful with my toys as a child, so I think it really depends on the child. That being said, BJDs are very expensive. I agree with the other people who have said starting with an Obitsu or a fashion doll might be better. They are also smaller, so that would make it easier for smaller hands to play with.

    5. I think it depends on the maturity and personality of the child in question.

For example, I got my first American Girl doll at 8 and even though she was playline, I knew she was expensive and treated her as such; I brushed her hair regularly and kept her fairly clean, even though I did actually play with her.

On the other hand, I have friends and relatives who had AG dolls at the same age whose dolls' hair was constantly tangled and weren't well taken care of.

I would still say 8 is too young, but if they're like in 4th or 5th grade and understand the delicate nature of the dolls, I think that a cheaper one might be a good option for a child. Something slightly more durable like a Smart Doll might be a good option as well.
