Avatar-afraid to change it?

I've had my avatar almost since I joined. Its not very distinctive though. I tried to change it once but I could NOT get any other avatar to work, even when I used the smallest file size they weren't accepted! So I'm afraid if I try to change it I won't be able to and I won't have one at all. >.<

 

I agree that it's easier to recognize avatars and sigs. However, since they change far more often than usernames, it seems wiser to start memorizing the names and just use the avatars and sigs for memory boosts.

I eliminated avatars from my viewing options so I could learn the names faster. I considered removing sigs as well, but so many people put their site links in them that I decided to leave them.

 

Sometimes I remember by names - mostly, though, I go by pictures ^^;; So if someone changes their picture, I might not recognize them.

As for me, my avatars are generally of my dolls, so they should be recognizable if the person has been paying attention

 

I get bored with it and change it. I'm not afraid. But sometimes it does help people remember you if you never change it

 

I tend to remember by name, usually, but there are a few people I remember by avatar if they have distinctive icons that they rarely/never change.

I don't change my icon very much at all- I think I've had maybe four different ones since getting my first doll (and didn't have one previous to that). It's probably getting to be time to change it up again though! ^^ I try to keep it simple, and my sig banner is always made to match, but they both otherwise stay in the same basic style. I've always used the same doll too; I might stick with that, since Azure's probably my most easily identified doll.

 

I normally associate avvys with people, but even if members change them, if I can reckognise their dolls in their avatar, or if it's simply another of theirs in the new avatar, I can still figure out who it is. I know something like 5 people's names ^^;... I just got an avatar after seeing this post >__>

 

I'm bad with names when it comes to in person [seriously terrible, I've had friends that I've known for years and only knew them by an online name before I learned an actual name - my memory kind of sucks at times] <-- for some reason the online names are easier for me to identify. So I usually identify the names over the avatar.

I'm not adverse to changing mine, I do it quite often [I haven't switched out this particular Jenova one for a long while because it's still my current fav] - my user name is always the same where ever I go - Nezumi -too or chuu, so I figure since that's stable enough, I can have fun with my icon instead ^.^

 

Eee, I hope people don't recognize me by my avatar. I'll be changing it as soon as I get a doll.

 

I change mine when the mood strikes. I tend to remember names of posters, and am always interested to see what new avatars they come up with. But I admit it's easier to identify posts when the avatar remains the same...

 

Truth to be told, but I have bad memory. xD But somehow, if I just see someone I've seen before, I just remember--like it comes back to me eventually. It doesn't matter on the avatars or names to me, I just...well...remember seeing them on here. :3 Avatars are a big help, but either way--name or avatar, I remember people. :>

And haha, I change my icons like...................once a month. xD But the avatar here I'm using now will stay longer than usual because one of my friends on here made it with photoshop--and a friend making an avatar for me with photoshop must stay with me until two months pass! ^o^

 

for me its both the name and avatar. As far as being afraid to change it, it none of those things, its the fact that i've forgotten how to make them

 

I remember most people by name alone, but it is easier to associate a person with an icon/avatar. Also, I am big on remembering the dolls more than the person. And in fact, I have called people by their doll's name because I didn't remember their username.

 

I'm definitely an avatar-memory kind of person T_T Most people on here I recognize by their avatar or their signature. But there are a select number of users whose names I recognize.. probably like... 20 maybe? With everyone else I get sooo confused when they change their avatar XD But that doesn't stop me from changing mine XDD;;

 

Well, the avatar is what catches my eye...but as it's a changable aspect and the name isn't, it's the name I use to actually identify people. I always notice when someone changes their avatar, though. I think it's more a full combo that I use to ID people: Their avatar, their user title, their sig, and of course their name, if I don't recognise the rest straight off.
I have a problem remembering peoples' names when I meet them in person, but online it's written right there...and seeing it makes it easier to remember than just hearing it.
As far as my own avatar goes...well, I change it when the mood strikes me...just changed it right before this, in fact. XD It's always a picture of Claude, though, and no matter how many other dolls I get it always will be.

 

I used to change my avatar so much. XD Then Wifey made a bet with me that I couldn't keep the same avatar for more than a week or so, so I switched back to this one and have had it for a couple months now.

 

I usually remember people by their usernames as opposed to their icons. If I'm scrolling through a page quickly, sometimes an icon will help me, but usually I don't really notice them, except to say "Oh, they changed theirs!", give it a good look, and then move on.

As for my own, I change it as often as I get a decent picture that I think would make a good avatar (and that's NOT that often....I'm still working on my photography skills >.<) I like to change it often, because my little family changes often enough, and I want my avatar at least to reflect part of the current family as opposed to how they looked six months ago >.<

 

I remember folks by their avatars, they are stand-ins for faces! So it throws me off when people change theirs.

I'm not going to change mine, I've had it forever.

It's a funny thing about avatars... I can recognize people by name sometimes, and other times by avatar. It really just depends. (And then sometimes I identify them by their dolls.)

I do have a bit of a story dealing with avatar recognition, though. x3

At Otakon, I went to one of the meets and was introducing myself (I had my Hewitt II and f-10 with me at the time) and said my DoA name. Everyone gave me blank stares, so I grabbed up my Hewitt (the one in my avvie) and bit his head like in the picture. There was a loud chorus of 'Ooooooh!' as people suddenly recognized me.

So yes, I'm a bit afraid to change it.

 

hmm, I've probably changed mine a good 4-5 times already, for now i like mine, maybe when i get another new doll I'll change it, kinda welcoming my newest doll to the family, he-he. ^^ I did have it before Jack's pic of Abel Nightroad from trinity blood, which i looooove, lol, might have to go back to him soon.
