Avatar-afraid to change it?

On forums I usually identify people more by their names than avatar, but it's a habit of mine to stick with one avatar for a decently long time.

On DoA I identify people by their dolls over their user names and avatar...>_>

 

I usually recognize people by their avatar on first glance, but I read names of any avatars I don't recognize and will usually notice if someone's name is familiar and the avatar is not.

I think of avatars kind of like pictures of the person (even if they're really not).

 

I'm horrible at remembering... although I do care (mostly!)... I'm just bad at it...

I'd use the avatars to go by, but I know they change, so it TRY to use the NAME... or sometimes BOTH...

 

I tend to remember people based on their names, avatars, signatures and the dolls they have. To be honest, I don't really remember all that many people, but for all the ones I do remember, I know at least one of their dolls, so I guess seeing the doll in their avatar or sig would help me identify them.

I'll definitely change my avatar once I get a doll, but I probably won't change it until then. (Though I can see myself constantly changing it afterwards every time I go "Ooh, I like THIS picture of him!")

 

I never really thought about that. I'm really not sure if people remember me by my avatar or not. Although, the reason I don't change it often is because I'm really lazy... if someone made me icons I'd probably do it more.

But I remember people by name and their "Internet voice" from the way they type. (I do have a hard time remembering actual names though. I've met so many people in person after knowing them online and I have the hardest time not calling them by their Internet handle. XD)

Signatures and avatars help me to remember people who post less often though. ^^

 

lol I have never had a problem being remembered I'm kinda one of those people that you either love or hate

 

It's a combo of username and avatar. Sometimes, I'll remember the username, other times I remember the avatar.

As for my avatar, well, I like it. So I see no point in changing it.

 

Avatars usually help me figure out who the person is, if its not someone I "stalk" that is lol. Avatars are really helpful when Im tring to find a certain post while scanning through a thread though. Easier to spot avatars then the names.

I change my avatar whenever I get bored with the old one lol.

 

The avatar helps, but I tend to remember people by their name more. My own av, for example, is just a placeholder until I get my first boy. Sadly, people might be very used to my lil chibi Ran by then lol.

 

I have fun changing my avatar but I only do that a few times a year. I remember people by name, so others changing their avatars hasn't really been a problem. A little help for those who remember people by avatars, mine always has my CS initials in it ^^

And having said that, I decided to change it to show my favorite anime pairing of all time. lol. And it's a real one in the series at that.

I don't have hability for remember people by name, it happens in my daily life, I meet a old friend and I have always forgotten his name XDDDDD I'm saying all time that if I meet with someone, I'll never remember his name or when we have met XDDDD

Using same avatar, I could tend avatar, signature and name, so I could identify some people ^^U

 

I remember people based somewhat off their avatars, but honestly, I remember a lot more people based on those custom user titles! XD

I don't know why, they just register in my brain really easily. ^^;

I remember people by thair name, but sometimes I remember one of their dolls by their avatar.

I am afraid to change my avatar for a couple of different reasons (not because people might not recognize me).

1. My name is so uninventive, but I got stuck with it because DoA doesn't allow you to change it. So the expressive part of my name is the avatar.

2. I have referred to my avatar in posts about Banji. Those posts would no longer make sense.

Signature->Avatar->Name. Some of those pretty signatures, I can't help but notice them first.

 

I often toy with the idea of changing my av.. but really i am so used to my own that I end up leaving it and I am not sure how I recognize people... it maybe a combination of names/avi/sig that does it for me

 

Same thing here, avatars are #1 for recognition, and yeah, I do feel reluctant because of this to change... I actually just was thinking of this when I changed it yesterday. But if there's a user that posts a lot that changes her/his avatar every few weeks or more, and I notice it's the same person by the sig or dolls, then I start remembering the name before the av. And sometimes I'll recognize the doll no matter how often the photo changes, like Xi-Feng's avatars which are usually (always?) of Ilu or Morbidollz and her sisters because of their dolls' faceups (and font color, hehe).

I think if you have pics of your dolls in the sig then the avatar matters less. The subtitle helps, too.

I'm not sure it matters that much, though, unless you are specifically looking for a certain user. I feel mostly anonymous on this board anyway because of the sheer number of members!
