Avatar-afraid to change it?

I change mine all the time. It's boring if it's the same one forever[for me at least.] and it's always of my dolls which I favored at that time XD And I recognize people by their name not their ava ;3 And I update my signature regularly too!

 

I'd say I'm pretty visual, so... Either avatar or signature, as long as you've got something distinctive somewhere, chances are I'll remember you.

 

The only time I heavily rely on an avatar is when I'm looking for my own post in a huge thread or something. I work in a photo lab where I remember tons of customers by name, but unless I see them all the time, it's not until they walk up to my counter that I can mentally attach name to face because I am not visual in that way. They could change their hair or come in dressed totally different from normal and I probably wouldn't even have a clue that they did. Same with here, I can remember people by name/ what kind of dolls they have, but not by avatar, so someone could change their avatar on me fifty times in an hour and I'd never know the difference.

 

Usually the name is what grabs my attention, particularly because it is often repeated in other peoples' posts... i.e. "I agree with SusieQ ..."

 

I usually remember people based on names, but the avatar definitely helps. It throws me off for a minute when people change them but when I see the name and the little subtitle I usually remember :P

 

I remember people by name, not avatar.

My signature pretty much stays the same (with the exception of adding dolls to the list when applicable), but I change my avatar rather frequently. I enjoy giving each of my dolls "time in the limelight" and showcase them in my avatar randomly.

 

AVATAR! i can't remember names to save my life and some users have similar ones and that makes it even tougher. so definitely avatars.

 

I remember names through avatars and profiles, but mainly avatars. If you change your avatar AND profile, then I'll have a hard time remembering who you are, because I am a highly visual person....I mean, looking for a person's avatar is easier than looking for their name when scrolling down a post.

 

I'm not a visual person at all. I'm far better at remembering names. I don't think I'd notice it when people change their avatars because I just don't look at them.

 

I use a combination of signatures and avatars, and if all else fails their username. I do change my avatar every now and then, but I usually keep it long enough to not be confusing.
But I agree that, when looking for someone's post in a large thread, it's much easier to use avatars. However, if it's a VERY large thread and it would take to long even scrolling through looking for avatars, I'll just use ctrl+f and type in their name and go through each page seeing if their name is there. That's how I find certain keywords in really general or vague threads.
