1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

"best" and "worst" resin qualities by company?

Jul 9, 2014

    1. I really love my Luts boy. He's shiny in places a bit, but it doesn't bother me-- like, one foot is a bit shiny while the other isn't, and I sometimes catch a little shine on his chest, but he wears a shirt most of the time, and MSC fixes that problem overall pretty well. (actually, I really like his one shiny foot, when he's in my lap I sometimes hold it and rub my thumb over it because I like the smoothness of it. And then when I put his shoes on, no one can tell.

The important thing is that he's just the perfect weight, which I really love.

    2. Heavy resin is my favorite -w- Volks and Crobidoll both feel equally wonderful.

The only resin I've handled that I didn't like much was my old fairyland Minifee. My newer ones don't have the same problem though, so maybe it just wasn't a very good batch...

    3. Revisiting this with some new dolls! I got a 2008 Volks body for a head of mine and it's gorgeous. The resin is nice and weighty, though I would have to say that my very favorite from my collection is LoongSoul. I also obtained an Angel of Dream body from around the same era as the Volks body, and while it was shiny, was cast extremely thickly. I suppose it was a different time and resin was cheaper, haha. That body is still the heaviest of all of mine. Akagidoll has some nice resin as well. It's heavy how I like it, but also toothy in some areas. I'm not not sure about the weight since she's so little, but there's something about my Lati girl's resin that feels really good to the touch. Sort of toothy, but sort of not, I'm not entirely sure. In this span of time, I also finally got the Pukifee I'd been planning to for so long, and I was kind of surprised that his resin is so... meh. It's not bad by any means, but I guess all the Fairyland hype had me imagining some seriously amazing resin. It's not going to stop me from getting more, though!

    4. I think Iplehouse resin is amazing its heavy and toothy and acts beautifully to the light which gives a life like photos

    5. This is a really interesting thread! I didn't realize there are so many variations in BJD resins, thank you for sharing with us. I only have one doll and I haven't seen dolls from different companies in person so I have no comparison. But so far I am happy with the one I have.

I would love to see and hold dolls from different makers, that would be a lot of fun :) I currently have no plans for a second doll, but I will definitely have to do my homework and perhaps revisit this thread if I ever do think about it someday (perhaps in the distant future, very distant...).

    6. No idea what everyone talks about..
My AoD is shiny and smooth and that's what this collection iis about! Different styles of dolls!
      I really like the shine

    7. My favourite resin I've handled is probably Doll Chateau's...it's creamy to the touch and heats up so nicely when handled, I'm completely enamored. I also like the weight of Fairyland's resin, but the texture leaves a bit to be desired for me (personally). I mean, tooth is great if you wanna do faceups, but it's not something I personally find pleasing to the touch. Leekeworld's resin also has nice weight, though, I'll add.

    8. I personally don't really like shiny resin since it just looks 'cheap' and 'fake' somehow.

I'm not sure what the best resin I've handle so far is but I can definitely say the worst I've handled so far is Dolkot. I bought 2 Dolkot dolls in a sale a few years back, expecting them to be of the same good quality as a secondhand Dolkot Kiss head I have and was sorely disappointed by the huge drop in resin quality...

The resin of the dolls I got while toothy (maybe a bit too toothy, they felt unfinished) was extremely light for their size and very thin! They felt so unsubstantial and delicate that I was afraid to handle them lest I break them... :| And they've been in their boxes since...
