BEST Doll Experience Ever

Jun 17, 2014

    1. Oh my, me too! I also really liked seeing all the sizes in person. And the pretty faceups! :aheartbea: I'm trying to get better at faceups and seeing them irl was an eye-opener. It made a huge difference compared to the pics I see here and on flickr. You can see how small and thin the lines are :D Talking to all the people was a lot of fun as well ^^

    2. I went to the pnwbjd expo and dollmore was an unexpected pannelist bc the panelist that were supposed to come had an emergency and couldn't be there and they decided to do a raffle for a doll and i won!!!

    3. My best friend is amazing he introduced me to bjds and told me all about them!
For my 18th birthday I got my first resin! He gave me a little pukifee faceplate it was such a shock and a surprise that has got to be the best bjd experience ever!

The other best experience has been really recent I was going through a lot of stress and illness and yesterday my third bjd came! That was really unexpected and it really gave me a boost and the seller was absolutely wonderful!

    4. I've had a couple of BJDs for about two years now, but only been a member on here for a couple of weeks. It has shown me that there is WAY more to this hobby that I had imagined in my wildest dreams, and one good experience happened 5 minutes ago when someone mention Supia Doll. I'd never heard of this brand before so went and looked it up and they are BEAUTIFUL!! I'm overwhelmed by how lovely they are. Possibly more than I can afford but I can LOOK can't I?

Getting my first BJD second hand on Ebay was a very good experience, and when she arrived I was thrilled with her. Yes she's a bit yellowed and needs re-stringing (neither of which things I can fix yet) but she's lovely and she'll always be the doll who was the gateway to a wonderful hobby and new group of friends.

    5. I think my best experience so far was when my best friend gave me my first BJD ;-; For the longest time I wanted one but I always thought I'd never be able to afford one and it just seemed very unrealistic to ever own one too me. But my best friend she gave me one of her dolls and I cried and it was just so amazing to hold one and be an owner of one! Then I realized nothing in unrealistic...BJDs are really motivating and the community is so nice! I can't wait to go to my first doll meet and meet others in the hobby and see their creations! To be honest all my experiences so far have been really nice ; u; :aheartbea

    6. It's cheesy...but getting my first doll in the mail was by far the best experience I've had so far. I got him the day after going to see one of my favorite bands in concert so the 'after show buzz' was still high and getting the knock on the door with the delivery for my little Lati Yellow boy was amazing.

    7. Seeing a friend I just sold a doll to post more photos of her in three hours than I did the entire year I had her. BJDs are just too beautiful to end up on a shelf ignored, which is what was happening with this poor girl. Now she's with someone who's going to cherish her.

    8. I bought a FL Sionna Fomhar doll from someone through Facebook and set up a very amenable layaway plan. But after I'd made the first couple of payments, I started to have major regrets, because I realized I wanted the Sionna sculpt with the standard FL faceup, not the Victoria Frances Sionna Fomhar one. Argh, I was stuck paying for a doll I didn't want (or at least I'd have to pay extra to get a new faceup or a second head for her).

But before I could make another payment, I got a message from the seller that her apartment had been broken into and the doll had been stolen! She would refund my payments!

A couple of months later, I found someone selling a Sionna with the standard faceup. I had cash in hand to pay for her in full, and I had her by the end of the week. Grail doll FTW!

    9. I would say my best doll experience was going to my first meetup in 2007. My wife and I had just moved back to the state and didn't have a lot of friends here who were into all our nerdy hobbies, we'd just gotten our first dolls and were super nervous... and it was like we'd known the people there forever even though I was a total noob. (I was really confused when a girl who is now a close friend of ours took out her Williams and everyone freaked out that she had him because I had no idea what I was looking at. XD) It was a really nice introduction to the community.

    10. My best doll experience, except for when my very first doll arrived and I had put him together, is always when I am struggling to bond with a doll, but as soon as I finish their face-up they look so different and adorable and I'm instantly in love again!
Of course I pick dolls I like anyway, but getting them blank and usually without a fitting wig or eyes, I don't really bond with them before their face-up.

    11. Oh same! I couldn't seem to bond with my boys until I completed their faceups. I was really concerned the first time that happened because I wasn't sure if I really liked him as much as I had. But I pushed forward, and the process of faceupping really helped me envision their character and personality more =^_^=

    12. This probably sounds a little lame, but one of mine was getting my Soom fairy's wig in the mail when they forgot to send it originally and I couldn't figure out how to tell them.

    13. I was given a doll by a dear friend. He is an older MSD but still beautiful and you will see his photos around, Devon my new Angel Region Jade. I was so surprised and very happy.

    14. My best doll experience ever happened yesterday: I decided to modify the face up of a LTF girl and discovered she was in fact a scrawny little boy with freckles and lots of spirit. :)

    15. Luckily i've never had a problem but my best is when my Husband brought me my Dream doll and my second dream doll in a space of a few months, i will always be so grateful for him doing that, love him so much

    16. The best doll experience I've had was "winning" (which actually means, won the chance to purchase) the Soom lottery for a grey skin Rise of War Hyperon. He was a Dollism New York exclusive, and there was not even a remote chance I would have been able to go. When I got that e-mail saying I had been selected and was able to purchase him, it was almost surreal! I love my Hype ^__^

    17. I have SO many stories I could to add to this thread, but two stand out for me, so they're the two I'm going to talk about. ;)

When I first got into this hobby...no...Lifestyle, I found a body I just fell in love with that I wanted for Sakuma Ryuichi, my then-grail doll. At the time back in 2008, the type 3 Delf boy body only came with a few sculpts, so when I saw a floating body for sale, I snatched it up. A friend of mine loaned me a floating Delf head for a few months, while I searched for the perfect head, a Luts/CP OE Shiwoo. Most of the people that had them for sale wanted to sell the entire doll with no splits and I couldn't afford to buy a whole doll I didn't want the body for just for the head. I was a bit down, thinking that I'd never get Ryuichi with the body he needed to have.

The same friend that loaned me the head came to me and said "I did a three-way trade and I'm giving you the head you want! :aeyepop:  I think I hugged them so hard that I made them lose their breath. :XD:

Unfortunately for me, that friend has since left the lifestyle, and we lost track of each other over the years, but I'll never forget that first act of kindness.

Soon after that, another friend who knew that I wanted a Dreaming Shiwoo head to be Ryuichi's serious self gifted me with a Luts/CP Dreaming Shiwoo head and hands for my birthday! :love Of course, he ended up becoming Ryuma, Ryuichi's twin brother.

I've also had all kinds of nice things happen over the years. Needless to say, I love all of my BJD friends! :XD:

    18. Adding to my previous post, another great experience was when I bought my CP Chiwoo head from another member here in 2006 but I was a newbie and I let her know that I was sad because I didn't know where to get him a body. She offered to buy a body for me that she found in yahoo japan perfect for the head, from the same company and the right type (type #1). I was so happy and grateful with her offer!!! I sent the payment and it was really cheap and arrived fast. I got my CP Chiwoo completed thanks to her, the body was just right for him, even the skin color matched very well.

Another good experience was when I bought my Puki puki Sugar from another member here. During those times back in 2005-2008 I was simply a high school student with no job, and credit cards. I babysat some kids so I could save money and buy my first dolls, I also cleaned offices with the supervision of an adult. I saw Puki puki Sugar and Puki puki Piki and fell in love with both of them! that member was selling her fullset Sugar so I sent her a PM. I also asked her if she could buy Piki straight from the company for me because I had no CCs or paypal, I would send her the money (I used to pay with money orders) and she would just buy it for me. I was afraid that she would get mad and say no but luckily, she was fine with it and she helped this poor student get her dream doll from that time :) I got my Puki Sugar and she was the best thing in the world! a few months later I received Puki Piki straight from the company (she gave my address instead of hers!). I got my little couple and I couldn't be happier. :dance

It is people like the three kind women above (the one who knew I was looking for my dream head and she offered it to me before putting him up for sale, the one who helped me get my CP Chiwoo's body and the one who helped me get my puki piki) that this hobby is wonderful! and they make this forum a better place. I will never forget those experiences. if they are reading this and remember me, thank you from the bottom of my heart! (I had to clean my PM box a few years ago so I have lost track of them).
