1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD and chinese made objects.

    1. On the same note as above, sometimes they get the image from a third party- or someone else who took it and therefore don't even know where it came from originally nor do they probably care.

If I saw a photo of one of my dolls on an item..... Firstly I'd probably be tempted to get said item. But my overall reaction would depend on the photo, i suppose. If it was something i did for my portfolio rather than say a simple snapshot, i might be more protective of it.

    2. I think that's the case with all of them. They may even just google pretty images and pick and choose from that. I know that's happened when I asked a school friend about a picture they got, and they said "Dunno, found it on google."

It must be the case, because if a company with self preservation went on a dollsite to get pictures and knew how big/rich the company was... They wouldn't use their images in case of lawsuits.

    3. So I was going though a few gift shops in the area I live at, like normal gift shops they have a few oddball items in it, and I ran across this.

    4. I remember one of my neighbors had this compact. She's only like 9 and received it from a friend, and on instant I recognized it as a BJD on the front of it. They 'winked', because every time you moved the compact, the picture would (fade? dissolve? I don't know what to call it), and the doll would have a sleeping face, but then you moved it again and the eyes were open. It's kinda like that material in front of school agendas.

      Honestly I thought I was the only one who knew about these compacts having BJDs on the front of it, but thankfully no ^^;

I was about to say something about it, but she wouldn't understand what I mean. She said she'd gotten it from China (her friend got it for her), so my best guess is that these compact mirrors are all over the place.

Also, I don't really know, perhaps they got permission to use these dolls on the front of the compact mirrors, but honestly I just think they didn't get permission and there's no credit to which company made the mold, or who took the photos and all. They may have stolen the pictures. But that's just my opinion, don't think too much about it!

    5. Yeah, I have a feeling they don't have any permission to use those photos. I can't name where most of the molds are from, I haven't been keeping up with the hobby that much, but if I knew which company's the pictures are from I want to report it to them.

    6. I think I recall someone bringing this up before. I don't remember what happened to the thread, but I do recall someone seeing someone with a compact mirror with a BJD-eque picture on it.

    7. I did a search to see if has been brought up before, but nothing showed. It mayhaps got deleted?\

    8. I'm just sitting here looking at the bad art quality of the closed-eyed picture and thinking "These get sold?"

Copyright issues aside, that's some really bad photomanipping.

    9. Maybe; I remember someone had pointed out a mirror (it might not have been from this company) with a similar question. I think the thread got locked, so maybe that's what happened?

They're supposed to be like those pictures where you tilt it one way, and the eyes are open; when you tilt it the other way, they eyes appear closed.

    10. I wouldn't be surprised if these images are stolen. Not trying to start wank, but China has VERY different copyright/intellectual property laws (I'm in publishing, and we deal with this issue CONSTANTLY. Like, almost every week). That's not saying that the Chinese creators of this or any product are "bad", that's just how it works there. It's definitely a challenge that is going to affect more and more people as China's economy and role in the world grows stronger.

    11. Of course the images are stolen, does anyone seriously think a small factory in China that makes mirrors would go to the trouble of asking for permission/paying royalties to use the photos? One of those is def from Luts, and I don't really see them saying 'Sure, use our default photos for your products!'

It's not like this is a unique case anyway, how many of us have bought unlicensed character products from Chinatown stores/eBay without giving it a second thought? Doll makers/photographers are not the first ones to suffer from this sort of infringement, and they won't be the last!
