1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Bjd frustrations

Aug 17, 2018

    1. Not knowing which style of clothes you prefer on dolls. My two girls have very different styles and I have yet been able to pin point what kind of styles look the best on each of them.

    3. Hmm, let's see...

Finding good bodies to hybrid with Dollshe heads when I do so. Aramis was an absolute nightmare to find a good body for. I think I went trough 2-3 different ones before I found the right one (psst, Popodoll 68cm works wonders for the old 18M Dollshe heads).

Custom orders. Whether it be clothes, wigs, eyes, etc. It's hard to translate what I'm looking for to the person doing the custom work. A real challenge that has sometimes led to some heavy facepalming, especially when it's something very specific but hard to describe 100%.

In regards to photography...working with multiple subjects at once. Getting them to stand or stay in a perfect pose together without falling over, shifting, or whatnot while getting everything set up. I can spend 50% of my total photography time alone with just the setup. Especially when certain subjects prefer to constantly land on their butts rather than continue to remain standing for a pose:doh

And on the dolls in general: sometimes getting them into sitting positions. Sometimes they want to fall backwards, or sit at awkward angles, or sometimes the joints just want to lock up in odd and awkward positions. Multi-jointedness is both a blessing and a curse:XD:

And...body blush chipping. Especially on those certain....male bits. Ugh, after all the work done and special sealant applied, it just...chips off. So...I experimented with some IDye Poly dips, and...here's hoping there'll be less rubs and overall better post-work results :wiggle

    4. I am fairly new to BJDs. One of the dolls I want is only sold in "events" so I cannot just place an order for her. I have to wait until she is offered.

    5. You could always stalk the second-hand market, to see if she comes up for a reasonable price before the next event.

As for my current frustration(s): sizing. There never seems to be much consistency across the board, as it were. And, a lot of dolls these days don't seem to be catered for by the 'big' companies and dealers when it comes to clothing or wigs. Because they're just a little too broad at the shoulders, or their thighs are a teeny bit too chunky. Or their head is a touch too small.

And, why are there hardly any sturdy combat boots for dolls with 10cm+ feet that won't cost the earth to get halfway around the earth to me? Oh, and, why do most shoes made for 10cm+ feet end up looking like barges once on the doll's feet?! It's the greatest feeling in the world, at the moment, to find awesome shoes for my chunky boys. To the point where I've bought them each a variation of what they're presently wearing (and they've only had them since yesterday) in celebration that they work!

    6. Clothes are definitely really frustrating to me. How am I supposed to tell if something will fit when it's just listed as "1/4" with no actual measurements? Also, as a lolita I find that a lot of BJD "lolita" stuff is not really lolita/uses cheap lace/just doesn't look that good.

    7. Dolls that you think are exactly what you want, then you get them home and they just...don't work. Currently trying to cope with the feelings of buyer's remorse of getting what I thought was a great deal on a sculpt I thought would be perfect for my character, and having this really nice doll that I just...can't get to be what I want. It's so frustrating when your vision doesn't work out, then you're tasked with making a choice: force it to work, use it as a different character, create a new character for it, or sell/trade it. All of which are a huge hassle on top of disappointment.

Same goes for those "perfect" wigs that end up being the wrong fit, wrong color, wrong style or whatever. I can't even begin to list how many wigs I've bought that looked totally different in person or don't fit my doll like they fit the doll model, and no matter what I do to style it, it never looks like the pictures!

    8. Shoes for MSD size dolls. I recently bought the first pair that fit perfectly from Etsy. I'm now busy trying to find name brand (Adidas etc.) trainers/sneakers to fit an MSD. Impossible so far.

    9. Mine is female bodies. their chests are always sculpted like theres the whole "invisible corset" thing going on, and I can never find bodies as muscular, or as tall as I want. There's... 3? muscular female bodies available in this hobby (Miro, Impl, Miracledoll), none of which work for what I want. I had hoped the HID body would have more muscle to her, or IOS was once working on a muscular female body, and fantasia doll was good (but they're gone...). So I guess it's just a lot of modding for me ahah.

    10. Girl bodies... meh... If I like a body, it sure, that haven't got the right breast size. If the breast size is ok, than I don't like the body... Girl doll with 8cm feet... My boy is 70cm tall and he wearing 8,3x3,3cm shoes. Boy bodies: not a lot chance for a smooth ab. I don't want a superhero or a wrestler. I want a smooth slim 72cm body... If one of my oc become a wrestler, I buy a Granado body. Untill that I just like to have doll with a normal body. Not everybody is a fittness guru...

    11. Restringing a doll after two years or, maybe, three of not doing that kind of thing because the elastic and posing have been good...

Only to completely fail at the last calf/shin and foot, give up, and leave your poor boy with one leg that looks like it's been amputated at the knee. With a crochet hook stuck through the elastic to keep the thigh and knee in place. And two sore fingers to show for your efforts.

      :vein:eek:

    12. Mature looking bjds are hard to find and then finding a good body to match...the struggle. Clothes for msd dolls is often childish and sizes can be a hit or miss.

    13. I love hybriding, but I hate shopping for bodies for my boys! I'm extremely particular about aesthetic; I don't want to spend $400+ on a body I don't really love. It took me months to decide on a body for my Pygmalion Eita head. He's meant to go on a 71cm body, and as most of you know, there aren't very many lean-looking 71cm bodies out there. Most of them are absolutely shredded. And that's just not my thing.

    14. I get that because of the actual global situation everything is delayed, like preorders, commissions and shipments. But gosh, it really doesn't make the waiting for my face up commissions any easier, since I've sent the dolls out like 7-8 months ago. Makes me wonder if I'll receive them back within a year's time :sweat

    15. I think noses on female sculpts, especially 1/4 scale. So many of them are just teeny tiny button noses and they often look disproportionately small. I want loads of different noses with character!

    16. Finding mature, complex and detailed clothes or people who can make them for tiny dolls. The same goes to shoes. I want some lovely dresses with corsets, ruffles, gothic outfits and cool boots, but it is really hard to find those for a small doll. What a pain.

    17. The price of clothes versus the quality. I wouldn't mind paying the same for an item of doll clothing as for a human-sized version of the same thing, if the quality was also the same. Sadly, it's usually significantly less, and there are some things I just can't make myself.

    18. Bodies that are strung too tightly. My Pukipuki is a terrible poser simply because she was restrung shortly before I bought her. I have tried stretching her out a bit by placing paint brushes between her joints but I haven't seen any results after three weeks. :huh?:

    19. Before I radically changed my collecting ways, wigs and eyes were the bane of my existence. I dislike anything that isn't a custom made alpaca wig, is what I've learned. And Eyes... Oh no, not eyes! I notice any kind of gapping and it bugs the hell out of me. Even if they have the right fit low-dome, high-dome, etc, if there's gapping after that I'm done.

But those are things I've just tailored my collecting towards avoiding now a days. My frustration comes mostly from re-stringing now. Restringing a tiny baby dragon yesterday became a 2 person job and ugh! I had to force open the tiny tiny little s-hooks, otherwise they just couldn't get on the elastic. I don't know how the company strung them like that in the first place :vein

    20. Hybrid seems a good answer for the concept I'm searching for, but scale and color matching keep me back. It's really scary when something mismatch... :(
