1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Bjd frustrations

Aug 17, 2018

    1. They are too big… and yet, roughy 1/3 is my favorite size to work with for props and models. It’s a great size when I’m actually doing something with them, but most of the time my BJDs are these big clunky things that are too fragile to just throw in a pile in a closet but also heavy and floppy and difficult to display in a way that doesn’t take up half a room.
The weight annoys me more lately because I bought some big vinyl dolls and hybridized them with BJD parts. So light… sometimes I wish I could make myself prefer smaller vinyl dolls lol

    2. Have you looked at the male bodies at Resinsoul / Bobobie? They do slim bodies which are less bulky

    3. Shoes for slim MSD feet. Most MSD size shoes are for the "big baby" style MSDs and way too big. All of the MSD size shoes sold on Alice Collections, where I buy most of my doll clothing, are huge on my dolls.

    4. Finding sturdy fabric trousers with buttons/buckles for a curvy Impl girl that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. There are so many good options out there I like—but they’re designed for specific male bodies.

To add on to this: finding gender neutral clothing for the curvy gals. It’s majority skirts, dresses and leggings, and the few things that are available are either only sold as part of a set or for astronomical prices.

    5. I feel this.

Add the height and odd proportions of a Dream Valley girl to that list of complications and you have the story of my Qing... I've had to make every single thing Ajda wears, because items that will fit her are not only few and far between, but typically look more "girly" than what suits her.

    6. My biggest peeve is resin matching. I really wish resin colors were somewhat standardized, finding things that match for hybrids is a royal pain x.x
Speaking of hybrids, finding an excellent had but it's for a size you don't like :...(

    7. I hope that as 3D printing becomes more advanced and accepted in the hobby (well, on-topic for DoA too), we'll be able to match resin much easier!

    8. Shopping for Yo clothes... I even have a girly girl so you'd THINK I'd have an easy time of it but, maaan everything is beige/pastel-colored. And if it's bright colors, you can be sure there's at least 4 of colors of equal value crammed into a single outfit so the whole thing looks like it was put together by a color-theory-illiterate clown (I make an exception for dolls meant to have the raggedy Anne aesthetic, but that was not the goal).

I ended up with a closet full of pink stuff (even though blue is technically her color...) for this girl just because the pinks were, at least, bright. And not accented with pine green. :nowords:

    9. Lelite have you looked through the outfits/dresses on Alice Collections?

    10. I feel like it's a little overly specific, but I find sewing for BJD my biggest frustration, aside from having enough space for the dolls and the objects and items associated with them. The props for photoshoots are starting to take up more space than the dolls...

I feel like sewing at doll scale is so much less forgiving that it causes a worse learning curve. I probably would have made a lot more progress by now if I had taken up sewing clothes for people instead of dolls! Instead it's been 5+ years of struggling with little outcome to show for it. I have maybe 5 or 6 actually completed outfit pieces that I made myself; everything else were failed attempts that came out too poor to be used or simply never got done for various reasons. I'm kind of picky when it comes to doll clothes, and I can't really afford to spend $100+ on doll clothes frequently, so I prefer trying to sew them myself when I can; plus I have a lot of ideas for things that would probably be cheaper to make on my own rather than to commission a seamstress and send the specific fabrics to them. Professionally custom-made doll clothes are so beautiful but sadly they tend to be out of my price range for the complexity I'd like.

Regardless, I still enjoy sewing, so I'll keep going at it until I can make the kinds of things I really want to make, but I can't say it's not the most frustrating craft-related thing I've ever attempted. Even drawing feels easier to me now, and dang, I thought that was hard.

On the brighter side, I actually feel like being able to sew for BJD is also one of the more fun aspects of the hobby too. As much as it frustrates me, I love the creative outlet, and there's just something so satisfying about the process, even when I don't actually finish the garment. The BJD scales I prefer are also larger than the off-topic dolls I originally started sewing for, so sewing for BJD has actually made doll sewing a tad more lenient due to the scale upgrade.

    11. I guess this isn't exactly BJD exclusive, but it'll always be the USD to CAD exchange rate LMAO.

For example I wanted Ring Doll's Xie Lian SO BADLY. Buttttt he was $770 USD I believe? Which converted to being around $980 CAD. $210 more than the listed price all because I'm not from the US ahhhhh. So I didn't get him- that seemed a little too expensive for me at the time. It still is well over what I'd like to spend, but considering how much I've been mourning not ordering him, if I ever find him on the secondhand market, even if it's the same price as retail, I'd probably jump and ask for layaway.

With all of that being said, I hope Hua Cheng will go beyond my expectations when he's released to get me to take the plunge.
      RIP my bank account-

    12. Till now I don't have a single female doll because it's so hard for me to choose one. It may be an odd problem, but I find it far easier to order male dolls because there are far fewer of them that I like enough to actually order. But when it comes to female dolls, I like so many that I really have a hard time deciding on just one. That's why I haven't ordered any yet.

    13. Biggest frustration: working so hard on making a doll's face and body perfect and customized.
5 minutes later: scratch in body blushing :vein

    14. Finding clothes, wigs, and shoes for uncommon size dolls and I don’t sew…well I haven’t tried but still frustrating

    15. I'm gonna go with bodies too. I often see a doll I like, that has a beautiful face, and then...the body is just not what I'd ever go for. It would take forever to find a decent match with a body from another company, and then it's like...resin color, perfect size, just general feeling of it being mismatched...Ah...:doh But I guess being so picky means I can save money for a doll I REALLY love hahaha.

    16. Deciding how a face should look like is the most exhausting thing to me. I redid one of my dolls five times in a week because I kept finding small things I didn’t like and had new visions. It was so frustrating that I almost gave up on the hobby and sold all my bjds but luckily changed my mind

    17. The manly men I love only come in 75+cm sizes is a pet peeve of mine :sweat I can’t haul my boys out for outdoor pictures and good lighting thus can only look on beautiful pictures others have taken in envy… no regrets though

    18. Finding clothes for MSDs that aren't too childish. I like mature, elegant and sometimes edgy styles, but when I find clothes I do like, often they only come in SD sizes.

    19. For me it’s “your grail will never be available to buy again”. And by the grail I mean LLT Ahaz. I’d sell my soul to have him. And damn looking at him at other’s people photos hurts and pleases at the same time.

    20. The things you want are never in the size you need, until you don't need them. Want a specific style of clothes for your Minifee? The perfect ones exist... for SD. How about a nice 8-9 wig? The coolest style is available.... in 7-8 and smaller.

Oh, so you sold the doll you could never find items for? Here's a whole slew of them, in the correct scale. Imagine that! :doh:lol:
