1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD worth $5000: have you seen one?

Jan 6, 2010

    1. Actually...Danny Choo is making Mirai Smart Doll which moves, walks, interacts with your phone, teaches you Japanese...so it's coming. :3nodding:

    2. Okay - I recant what I said earlier. I would pay $5,000 for a doll that can tutor my kids in Mandarin, math and any other subject.

    3. The resin Enchanted Dolls by Marina Bychkova have resold on Ebay for as much as $7000. Her porcelain bjds (off topic) have gone for as much as $60000 USD. So $5000 is certainly not out of the question and I for one would gladly pay that for a resin ED. Sadly, they can almost never be found at any price.

As for me, I have routinely spent in excess of $1500 for a doll I really want. My Soom Ignim with most of the options was more than that. Most of my purchases in the past few years have averaged around $1000 but they are steadily creeping upwards. My off topic Popovy Sisters Magpie was over $1600 on the after market.

I used to think $500 for a doll was expensive. Now I see that as a bargain. It depends on what you like and how far you are willing to go to get it.

    4. I would not personally buy a doll for 5K even though I would not mind selling a doll for some outrageous amount. I only wish I had bought some of the sought after dolls. It is just like google or apple stocks.

    5. Yes, around 6K or 7K. I think it was early Volks doll~

    6. Personally, I have not seen a doll that I would pay that much for. It would have to be pretty amazing, but I don't see myself putting that much into a single doll.

    7. I also haven't seen or heard a BJD which costs more than 5k yet. Maybe because I'm still quite new in this hobby. I believe that the reason which makes this BJD so expensive, must be really interesting and special; like a extreme rare one off or very fine and big BJD. I would like to see them with my eyes once, even though I don't think I can afford to purchase it or have any courage to do. For me, 5k is just too much for a hobby.

    8. I am pretty sure I saw a Volks Rozen Maiden doll sell for that much when I first joined the hobby on ebay. It was either Suigintou or Shinku, and I'm willing to bet it was Suigintou. She came fullset and I believe was priced at 4.7k Not quite 5k yet but still a shocking number...

    9. The Popovy Sister dolls range from 3,000 - 5,000 for full sets, but if you have ever seen one in person you get the overwhelming feeling that you would pay anything to have one. Also, I am weak for dolls...

    10. I haven't seen any BJD go that high up, but then again, I don't really know that much companies yet.
Though, in my opinion, I don't think that it's worth it to buy a bjd that goes for $5000. A doll that costs $1000+ already seems really expensive to me. x'D
Then again, that's only what I think. I suppose that if a person really wants an expensive doll, and can afford it, then why not.

    11. There have been a few dolls some years ago who sold for quite a lot of money. The ones I can still remember were:
      - A Volks Anais (YJA) painted by a famous mangaka who went for $7k
      - One of the first tan Lishe dolls (ebay) that went for about $5k
      - And one of the Original Korean Bermanns that went for a small $10k here on DoA.

So if you have the money and have a real want for a doll/artist/etc, some people will spend as much money as they can to obtain it.

    12. Well known Dollfie Dream faceup artists (namely from Japan) have had customs sell for thousands.

One auction for a custom Dolchu head ended at 826,000 yen (as stated by someone else on different forum).

It's crazy how someone can turn a $45 doll head into such a profit!!!

    13. I have seen many OOAK BJDs go for this price. I can't remember the company, but I remember a year ago seeing an Alice in Wonderland themed MSD for $7000!!!

    14. I would not pay the amount of money for a doll that I bought my car for. On the other hand, it all depends what it's worth to someone personally, and if that's a purchase that would ultimately make them happy, and they could afford it, I wouldn't fault them for it. I just am not going to spend that amount.

    15. WOW! I guess we all have the potential to over pay for a doll we love and feel like if we dont buy it when its available no matter what the cost we feel hollow ..broken hearted.
I would like to think id never pay $5,000 for a doll but there is always the slim chance.
ill need a few people to come over and kick me a few times first though..gotta clear my head

    16. If I had the money I'd so buy one of their dolls....they are amazing. Obviously if we all had indispensable amounts of $$ we would have armies of dolls!

    17. Dollie collectors laughing at expensive dolls....now we know how normal people see us. Most I seen for a selling doll is $1500, but then again im not looking for anything particularly rare.

    18. Although I love and admire unique BJD I could never justify paying over € 1000 for one. My latest incoming girl is about 2/3 of that amount and that already cost me an arm and a leg. I guess it's all about what you can afford.

If I had that kind of money I'd be doing other things with it for sure...

    19. Definitely some are worth it. Enchanted dolls worth even more. I would pay $20000+ for an ED.

    20. $5,000? I'm not surprised that there are dolls that have gone for that amount, but I don't think that I have ever seen one. The most I have seen was a Limited edition Volks doll going for an aftermarket price between $2,000-$3,000. I cringe at paying even $300 for a doll, I can't ever see paying $5,000 for one.
