1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD worth $5000: have you seen one?

Jan 6, 2010

    1. I have seen a $10,000usd.. literally, I failed off my chair!!

    2. I've seen OOAK full set Kaye Wiggs dolls (which I believe are off topic here) sell around the $5000. A few nude resin Enchanted Dolls are going for that much--and a full set Popovy can go that high. Way OT as well, but if you consider some of the charity auction OOAKs, I saw a customized Silkstone Barbie by Magia 2000 sell for $13,000, and they are not even jointed...

    3. Holy.. i dont think i could EVER justify spending anything near that much.

    4. I was just coming in here to mention that example, ha ha.
$3000 to $8000 for a doll head and outfit, it's soooo much @_@ But they look so good too. Customs by Totechi tend to get pretty high too. I have to make due with my own customs, but I always admire those artists.

    5. The most expensive doll I have seen in person (in which I was aware of it's price) was about 2k. I forget the brand, and while it was pretty, I wasn't particularly impressed. He didn't look worth more than the equally beautiful dolls I've seen for around $500. I think for me, any modern doll just isn't ever going to be worth that much so it's difficult for me to fully appreciate it.

    6. Super Dollfie shinku or any other Rozen maiden doll!!

    7. The most I've ever spent on a doll is around $3000, and that was for a Dollmore Trinity who is 105cm (or 3 1/2 feet) tall and came with a full outfit and shoes and wig and EVERYTHING. The extra $200 I spent was for getting all her seams sanded. I have two of those, FYI, and both were worth every penny. :)

I know those Dollfie Dream fullsets go for a pretty penny, but there's no way I'd ever be willing to spend more for a 60cm doll than I did for a 105cm doll. lol

    8. I'm not sure how much they went for or if they were even for sale but Disney and volks paired up together and made dolls for the D23. They made Jack Skellington and Repunzel.

    9. When my friend sent me the link of this auction a couple days ago, I failed of my chair.:sweat

    10. I've seen Marina's dolls before but never thought they would cost that much, if I didn't know the price I would guess around $500-$1000 max.

    11. What drives me crazy about Marina's dolls is the amazing detailed accesories and clothing... but the dolls per se, meh. I don't find them that pretty with a few exceptions.
Truth to be told I remember quite some years ago to be in awe by her dolls. And at that point she was still taking orders and they were far less expensive than they are now (and still they seemed super expensive for me at the time) but when I saw how the prices evolved after... I was like "why didn't I get one back then!!?". Still 6k dollars on a doll would really make me feel too guilty.

    12. It sold for $76,500, wow. I wonder why they sell for so much. I personally don't find their look attractive, but I know that's a matter of preference. Their clothes and accessoires are very detailed, I have to admit, and the posing seems pretty great, but I don't think I could ever justify spending that amount on a doll. Is it because there is only one of each?

    13. Wow :o never seen an art doll costing that much !
Well, my wallet is very happy that I don't find Marina's dolls attractive to me either ,phew :sweat...

    14. Granado had a Hansel doll that was over $90,000 not too long ago. Believe it or not, he sold out.

    15. The most expensive version of basic Hansel goes for $829.00. That is with bronze skin, jointed hands, faceup and the most expensive body. They also had a one off of Hansel but that would not go for 90,000. Volks one offs don't even go for that much. I am thinking if you saw 90,000 it was a different currency. It wasn't dollars or euros.

    16. It could be 90,000 yen. I ran it through a converter and it comes out pretty close. I always have to remember to look twice. I've seen yen and thought "DOLLARS!?!" more than once.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around that eBay auction. That's more money than I make in a year! Yow.....

    17. That ebay auction has 76 bids. Looks like some rich folks got caught up in bidding fever.

I'd never pay anywhere what the prices are for porcelain bjds. Resin is like iron compared to porcelain --

    18. I think the winner is either a private art collector, or a museum. Wasn't some of her work bought by a museum before? How awesome is that!
