1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD worth $5000: have you seen one?

Jan 6, 2010

    1. Marina's dolls have been sold by several museums in Berlin and NY. The porcelains are OOAK, and every detail is made by hand, including all of the real gemstones on the clothing, the wig, and the jewelry. Her few resins do have inset eye options, but even those are now going on the secondary market for $5000. if painted by Marina. I don't own one of her porcelain dolls and never will, but it's not unusual for paintings or other pieces of art to sell at those high prices. It's funny how people look at a squiggly line scribbled on a paper napkin by Picasso and think nothing about the high prices they bring at auction, but a piece of art that takes hours and hours of work to produce, is seen as not being worth the same money because it is called a doll instead of a statue or sculpture. Just a thought...

    2. I think as the dolls become more well known outside the doll forums they will eventually become more accepted as an art form. We are already seeing rapidly inflating prices for certain artists and more people are coming out of the closet and admitting to being collectors!!

    3. I used to have my share of expensive antique bjds, so if one of our type at that price caught my fancy, why not? I have a one-off porcelain Enchanted Doll, and I play with her same as I do my resin dolls (although she does have her own "dollhouse" unlike the others). The price point doesn't scare me away from playing dress-the-dolly and taking photos.

    4. I'm still new to bjds, so the most expensive doll I've seen have been volks doll with full sets, and that one extremely limited The Nightmare before Christmas BJD "Jack Skellington" Doll that I REALLY wouldve wanted. I believe it was being sold for 2-3k a year ago i think. I would totally throw down for it, but personally I can't see myself doing more than 3k. I'm not made of money, so personally its not worth it for me.

    5. I couldn't fathom paying $76,000 for a doll. :o

    6. I paid 1100 for my venitu but I think he is worth it! :D
He is very unique and kind of limited so...
