1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJD worth $5000: have you seen one?

Jan 6, 2010

    1. It has probably been over a year, but I saw a 43cm Narae go for $5000 (actually, just a little less). She did come with two heads with exquisite matching face-ups, body blush, nails etc. There was also at least one (if not two) outfits, wigs, etc. You essentially got a doll hobby for your money.

    2. I know.I found him while looking for armor for my bf,he gave me the weirdest looks once I starting swooning over this doll.

    3. :sweat That doll is just a regular non-limited F16, available at any Volks store that sells FCS, in a fancy outfit. The outfit's pretty cool, but I really doubt it's worth the $2500 markup. *_* I think that seller is often trying to sell regular Volks dolls and pawn them off as rare traditional Japanese dolls to people who don't know any better. :|

    4. Yup, you see this seller often on ebay. He/she's just a scammer who's using regular non-limited volks dolls (preferably F-16 or Megu) and sells them for at least $2500.

    5. It's nice, but over-priced - seriously over-priced.

      $1200 MAX for that.

      Phil.

    6. You know, considering how I can squeal over a $410 Delf Yder with a $16 dollar wig on him and a homemade suit, seeing a BJD worth $5000 would probably render me unconscious. Death by Dolly.

...I want that as my epitaph.

    7. Death by Dolly? That sounds like a play script done by Sondheim and Raymond Chandler... ;)

      Phil.

    8. Ah.Should've known the 'designed by famous artist'bit was likely hogwash.
I'll watch out for this guy in future.

    9. I'm checking YJ everyday to see if Williams price will drop, but he is still somewhere between $3000-$3,500. :...(

    10. Yeah, unfortunately there are a lot of scammers out there hoping to catch someone unawares. >_< The good news is that F16 is a wonderful doll who is relatively easy and not too expensive to acquire. I have two of them because I love them so much, and I found both here in the DoA marketplace for good prices. :love

    11. Phil: Ahahaha, yes, absolutely!

But you know, sometimes money is no object to people when it comes to their hobbies.

I suppose $5000 seems extravagant to me in the same way $400 for my SD seems extravagant to my mother. It's aaaaall in perspective. She will never, ever see a doll that she believes is worth $400. I will probably never see one singular doll that is worth $5000 to me.

    12. I'd have to have an awful lot of disposable income before even considering getting a doll that expensive. I have yet to see one that I'd be willing to pay that much for even if I had the money, but I'm probably too new to owning them for that anyway. There are some really gorgeous dolls out there, but I just can't see myself paying that much for one.

    13. I know! And with the latest release of Williams (and his original fullset price) I don't think his price will drop anytime soon.
Don't give up, though. I bought my Williams-head on Y!J for a 'reasonable' price. The seller had no idea what doll she was dealing with and I don't think I've ever pressed the 'buy-it-now'-button as fast as I did then.

    14. That.... is a lot for a doll. I think the most I would spend on one is £700 and that's only if I REALLY wanted it and couldn't live without it!

Those words are going to come back to haunt me, aren't they?

    15. I bought a limited Volks head for a steal on eBay (frantic "BIN" button pressing), but I was willing to pay the $3000 + whatnot on whatever fees for the whole doll. My thought was that I could buy several dolls for that amount or one very special doll I like a lot. In my opinion it was worth it, but I was glad to pay a lot less.

$5000 does feel kind of steep though. Maybe my feelings will change if my income would double and I'd have a lot more money to spend, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

    16. Haven't seen one yet and the most expensive ones I've seen are $1000 for fullset. If some dolls cost that much they must be really pretty. But those kinds of dolls are beyond my reach. >_<

    17. Before reading this thread, I did saw a Volks Suigintou Full Set selling for 3k usd in DoA this morning (Yep, is still there Q~Q If only I could afford it).

Personally, if I got the money, I wouldn't mind spending 5000usd on a doll. Yet, that doll would have to be something that catch my eye.

    18. Just a few days ago in Y!J I met a one million Yen (9728 or something US$) for an autobuy. Talk about scary prices. Volks SD17 costs between 1000 to 3000. The more popular and hard to get, the more higher the prices. Dollshe Bermann costs 2000 something.
