1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJDS And Art Schools

Dec 21, 2015

    1. Next year, I will be starting my first year of college. I'm an art student and have currently applied for several art schools including Parsons, Pratt, and SCAD. I just wanted to know what the current atmosphere it is for me to bring along my BJD with me to school in specifically art schools.

    2. o3o i'm in the university of Fine Arts and it's always a pleasure to bring dolls around xD; Everyone's just so fascinated by them unless they're scared of dolls, of course.

    3. Ahh, That's Great! If I dorm next year, hopefully my roommate will like dolls. If not, I'll just leave it at my family's house and bring it with me when I get my own apartment.

    4. @AnyungBunny, my husband was in SCAD and highly recommends it. Savannah is an amazing town.

    5. I'm a junior at art school! It really depends on who you get as a roommate/ where you plan on bringing the dolls. I'm pretty sure my ex-roommate from last year had someone over who handled my dolls with my permission or supervision but that person was generally a nuisance whenever she came over anyway. My longtime friend and roommate of 3 years @Milky_Bat is in the hobby and also rekindled my interest in BJDs in our freshman year! As for taking your dolls to classes, I've taken my pukifees to my studio a few times and once for a crit (we had a packaging design project and I made a BJD box) and that was peachy, though if you're going to be around wet or messy mediums I would leave the doll home. I have two experiences bringing my DC Ada to a literature class and then to a dark computer lab for my video game elective when I first got her. One classmate in the lit class thought she was cool but then berated me for spending $200 on her, you know, the usual faire with people outside of the hobby and that was uncomfortable, but in the dark computer lab she went relatively unnoticed. If you have any tinies, they are generally inconspicuous enough and bringing them to a "work at your studio" day has been nice.

I hope that helped and wasn't too rambly!

    6. I recently visited and I can truly say it was beautiful. Thank you for the feedback.

So I guess art people are like that too ㅠㅠ I just want to bring mine along so that I can play with it when I get bored or lonely. If for example, I have to stay on that state and can't come back to see my family. But yes, bringing the doll to studio time does sound very nice. And no, it was not at all rambly!!! Thank you for your feedback!

    7. If I we're in your position I'd definitely bring mine ^^

    8. Also for reference, I actually keep all my dolls in my school apartment because when I go home for break I have to take a plane and man, traveling with all my dolls used to be easy when it was just three of them (albeit one was an SD and they're kind of a pain to take to airports) but every break it became less and less feasible to the point where I just kind of take some tinies with me haha.

    9. I'm a sophomore at SCAD! I think there used to be a larger group of bjd owners here in the mid-2000s (I saw an old Livejournal post about a meetup years ago), but I only know of a few other bjd owners that go here now. There isn't any organized bjd group, unless you count one of my friends and me as a group of two.
I've never brought a doll to class with me, but I feel like it would depend on the atmosphere of the class? I'm a sequential (comics) major, and I'm sure a lot of those professors would be cool with it - I know at least one of them knows what bjds are, heh. I've also never had roommate problems; my old roommate was my bjd friend, and my current roommate thinks they're cute but doesn't really care.
Savannah is a really beautiful city, though, and it's great for photos! It's an old colonial city in the original plan, and there are a ton of trees and cool older buildings. I know you mentioned visiting, but in case you haven't seen this part of town: the area around River Street has a lot of places that've looked the same for over a hundred years, and a lot of stairs and interesting-looking spots, so it's fun for period shoots or just cool bjd photos in general. I also feel a little less awkward taking doll pictures outside in Savannah than at home, because people are used to SCAD students doing weird things for school projects already!

    10. That's Great! When I went to Savannah, I didn't have much time to look around. But I did go around where the small shops were. I think it was called an old town? And it's a bit sad that there isn't a meet there now, but it brings assurance to me that people don't care so much about bringing BJDs around. ^^
