1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJDs based off of Fairy tales/Folkore/Any story?

Nov 17, 2008

    1. The Plucker, it's perfect for a set of dolls. I mean there's an actual balljoint doll girl in it, its so obvious. Not to mention its one of my favorite books. x]
      The illustrations are amazing.
I'd also love to see dolls of The Umbrella Academy. And Maybe even Fatal Frame. xD

    2. Massive "The Bloody Chamber" fan here ... you've just given me a whole new load of stuff to check out! :fangirl: Thank youuu!~

    3. I think I'd be highly amused to see Lord of the Rings dolls. I know the outfits are seen by people who have made them, but official LOTR dolls would make me squee.

    4. I don't know that I'd really like to see dolls made of any of my favorite characters from books, simply because I have a very strong image of what they look like & I doubt if the dolls would look like that.

Some of my favorite books are the entire Deryni series by Katherine Kurtz & I've borrowed the names of some of the characters for my dolls but they aren't those characters. Strangely enough though, Alaric (60cm Narin) ended up looking surprisingly like his namesake as did Evaine (60cm Narae). But the type of beings they are & their personas are completely different.

    5. My goodness....that is the best idea ever! I would love dolls like that.... :aheartbea

    6. Ohh...thought I would throw mine out there. I would love to see dolls based on the characters from the Oz books. So many fun ideas in there...

    7. Has anyone read Hawksong or Snakecharm or Falcondance by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes?
      ...-grins-

    8. From actual fairy tales, I'd *LOVE* a doll of Kai from The Snow Queen too, at last I'm not the only one (logic!Kai, of course)-- and maybe The Boy Who Set Out To Learn What Fear Was (or whatever) from the Grimm's tales. (He'd be a lot like Johan Liebert, I suppose-- :: awful person :: ) It'd be so neat.

From other fiction, I'd love a doll of Montmorency (from the Eleanor Updale series, ooh, scar mods) and Keladry from the Protector of the Small books. She is seriously one of my all-time favourite characters. Lidia is supposed to be a gender-switch of that story with the soldier and the twelve dancing princesses (well, only half a genderswitch :3 ) so I suppose that counts, but as a couple she and Victor will be heavy on the fairy tale motif. Victor is a personification of fiction in a small way (Eastern European fairy tales, etc.) and together they make a pair at a contrast. (Evil stepmothers and all-- as a literal replacement for an evil birth-mother.)

    9. *weep* those things scared me SO BAD!!!! hahahah I stared at my girl's hands for days waiting for her fingers to move....really that whole game scared me.

    10. The little Mermaid... Actually, I'm making a gentle wistful merboy based on the little mermaid because I love the story so much... (yet so sad...)

    11. My own Arisa happens to be base on Alice from Alice in Wonderland. In the future, I will get two male BJDs based on the white rabbit and chesire cat.

    12. I'm planning on basing a future doll on The Falcon Prince.

    13. I personally intend on having 7 dolls total. (Maybe more but they'll be set aside for something else im sure)

But each doll will represent one of the Seven Deadly Sins. I'm currently in the process of writing a story all about them and how they appear to be young men.
My main character (Elise) dies in an attempt to show off to her friends, by drowning by being caught up in fishing line. So Superbia/Pride personally comes to retrieve her soul. So she makes a bet with him saying if she beat him at a game of Go Fish she could keep her soul. In doing so Superia/Pride adds that he would remain on the human realm until she died again. So that was the deal.
It continues with my character winning and Superbia/Pride ending up on the human realm for a while, one after one his 'brothers' coming to join him in his 'goal' of evantually killing off the human girl :)

It's a WIP so :doh I started this New Years last year :sweat

    14. I'm more of a fan of her older work. I didn't like that series at all. I personally felt it was too rushed and reminded me too much of Animorphs.
My personal favorite of her's was Shattered Mirror:aheartbea

    15. *dribbles*....... oh wow. I need this too. Hehe, this thread is FUN! :fangirl:

I did wonder at one stage if, should I come into vast quantities of money, I could have a set of dolls that I play with and a set of dolls that I consider collectables. It'd be great to get these types of character dolls as collectables :)

    16. And then some of those same characters and some additions could be used to also make the story of thumbelina :)

my favorite story used to be mother Hulda, collected by the brothers Grimm since my fairytale book named the good girl Floor, and i was so proud of my name being used for a fairytale character :)

    17. I love the grimms fairy tales!!
I'd love to have a Volks Luna be Valissa the Fair (I know I spell wrong...) that would be scary if they had a Baba Yagu!

    18. Not quite fairy tale, but I have a folklore doll. :) My John Barleycorn is the personification of the death and rebirth cycle of wheat being turned into brandy. (There's more to his story, too, but that was the germ of his creation.)

    19. The thread about naming dolls after deities is a good thread, as some people have named their dolls after deities, personifications and characters from folklore. I love seeing an interpretation of something that hasnt already been illustrated, or one that has been done rather uniquely. My friend used to have dolls named after Anglo Saxon figures in folklore, I always found them very unique (and Im not talking popular Anglo Saxon folklore, more obscure names :) ).

    20. Although, probably not original, I'd love to get a set or dolls to match alice in wonderland, as well as little red ridding hood.

A would also love to see someone do the mytho-story of narcissus or one of the 'childrens r skary' storys.
