It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. BJDs based off of Fairy tales/Folkore/Any story?

Nov 17, 2008

    1. While its not a fairytale (but close) I'd like to create a doll of Elena from "The Fairy Godmother" Most of my dolls will be based on characters from books (except the unusual original character) that I love. (Right now I am working on Alanna the Lioness (she doesnt have a body at the moment though) and Kellen from The Obsidion Trilogy.

    2. I'm curretly collecting a set of dolls from a story I created based of Chinese and Japanese Mythology. It's set in 1910, one of the main characters (The other being a Toaist adept) is a Jiang shi (Literally 'stiff corpse' in english) a kind of zombie or vampire. She's a grey delphine, she should be shipped out soon. I just need to find someone I can comission to make her outfit, which is based on those of qing dysnasty officials.

There are other mythology based charcters in the story that I will eventually be getting in doll form - A Japenese General stationed on the continent who is possessed by a ghost, the three wise monkeys, Mizaru with a blind fold, Kikazaru with little ear muffs, and Iwazaru with a respirator and finally I want to track down a Sard to be a Taotie a goat-demon that's mysterious visage often appears on ancient Chinese burial caskets.

    3. I'd totally be all over a 'Snow Queen' set, just like some others here. Also I have always thought Dollshe should return with an Ichabod Crane. :XD: They could do him SO WELL. And who wouldn't want a proper Little Mermaid??

I am planning a Crane Maiden doll based on the Japanese fairy story... indeed, all my dolls are and will be versions of folklore and mythology from various cultures. My B&G Afra is an Alchemical Salamander from the European tradition, my Soom Sard is a Fallen Angel from the Hasidic and Arabic traditions, my MnM Mana is a Chimaera from the Greek tradition... and soon I'll have a Welsh Barghest (i.e. Black Dog, a harbinger of death). Later on, I hope to get a Korean Dragon, a Greco-Egyptian Sphynx, a little Dark Faery based on the British interpretation, an automaton out of modern (18th century) mythology, and a classical Unicorn (whose origin is kind of....well, noone can trace the original source of unicorns... almost every culture has one, but the Sumerians seem to have recorded it first, so I am going with a Sumerian character-base and a more universally European appearance). High hopes, I know... but I love my concept and intend to stay with it.

As far as non-fairy tale characters go... I would like a series of Peter S. Beagle's 'The Last Unicorn'-inspired dolls, some Edgar Allen Poe characters, a group of Egyptian gods and goddesses with anthropomorphic headwear, some of Storm Constantine's Wraeththu.... I could go on. *L*

    4. If a company were to do a series of Fairy Tale dolls, I can easily see:

Snow White and Rose Red (imagine what a stunning pair those would be!)

      The Red Shoes

The Queen of the Copper Mountain (Russian Fairy Tale--could have the Queen, the Artist and the Maiden who loves him)

East of the Sun, West of the Moon

Edit: Personally I pictured Elena as being dressed in the "classic fairy-tale" French 1700s gown, but with her own hair done up and unpowdered when she went out doing Fairy Godmother business.

    5. I have Peter Pan! well, just waiting to get a body for him, but have slightly modded and done the faceup on a Juri 06 to make him. I am also planning on getting a Puki Cupid for his little tinkerbell.
I have seen a few story characters around here. The best one I have seen is Pippi Longstocking. I think it's Xen who has created her?? (correct me if I am wrong!) She looks awesome!:D

    6. What I'd love to see is some dolls based on the works of Frances Hodgson-Burnett, like The Little Princess and The Secret Garden. (Actually, one of my dolls is named Mary after Mary Lennox from that book...And now that I think about it, I have a Sarah, too, but there's no relation there. XD)

    7. I could'nt remember the name of the anthologies my thanks, I love the stories in them. You've now given me further book hunting to do on some of the others you mentioned.

    8. I have always wanted to have dolls based off the seven deadly sins (Lucifer, Asmodeus, Belphegor..). It sounds like so much fun and you can really get in depth with the stories. Unfortunatly this is something I couldn't possibly afford, but it's neat to think about.

    9. The main story that is developing around my soon to be made and delivered darlins has a lot of fantacy whatsitness woven in. Kinda like the comic Fables witha dash of Hogwarts like society. So Ill probably end up having a few if not several characters based off fairy tails and the like. There will be much Grimm reference ^ ^

    10. I've been thinking that if I get more into this hobby, I might like to make a doll of my OC Ferin, the main character (and also kind of Mary-Sue ^^; ) in a Jak and Daxter fan fiction I started a long time ago and then kind of abandoned. Though I never finished writing the story, Ferin still lives in my mind and it would be cool to finally bring her to life! Though she wouldn't really be a doll I'd want to cuddle and stuff, since she's kind of a reflection of me, I still think she'd be cool to have. But then I'd feel bad if I didn't make a Jak doll to go with her...ahh too much money! ><

    11. You're welcome! I don't think the series has a name per se, but if you check Amazon for the title of the first, Snow White Blood Red, it should link to all the others. Many excellent authors in those anthologies. And, of course, I forgot in my previous post to mention my favorite fairy-tale-inspired author, Patricia McKillip, whose cover art is done by the fabulous Kinuko Craft.

    12. Do parables from western religion count? I have one based after the Ziz and two that will be the Leviathan and Behemoth. They have some attributes of the characters depicted in it.

    13. I think that totally counts~ I love the idea of basing dolls off of all kinds of classic stories. I think that gives a lot room for interpretation.

Aussie grrrl - That's so cute! A little Tinkerbell would be so adorable~

    14. any story? uhhh kinda. i name all my dolls from books or stories i have treasured some time in my life or another.

(well i dont have my dolls yet but i have them all figured out)

      example's:
Tuesday: freeze tag- caroline B cooney
Zoey: marked- p.c. cast + kristin cast
Aden: blood and chocolate- annette curtis klause
      Adrian:avalon- rachel roberts

and i have peirce, he is the only one i didnt name from a book (well aden is sort of, i wanted to name him caden but i know someone with that name so i was flipping through books and found aden and settled on that)

    15. All mine were orginaly Artemis Fowl characters. . .Ironicaly one of my dolls (who was supposed to be Vinyaya) ended up being called "Holly" She isn't at all like Holly, or Vinyaya. One of my planned dolls (Nate) is so far removed from his inspiration that it's safe to say he's an OC. . .
The town (most) of my future dolls will live in is called Wilhelm in reference to Wilhelm Grimm :)

    16. There are a couple of dolls i would love to see made. (Soom? Are you paying attention??XD)
I would love to see dolls of Peter Pan, my favorite story as a child or Snow White. I feel like they would be beautiful.
Also, a doll representation of the seven sins would be really interesting. :)

    17. i saw a gallery of someone's doll on DoA based on Wendy of Peter Pan, except that Wendy was based on a book by a French Comic Artist of an alterated version of Peter Pan.

      She was breathtaking.

I'd like to see more dolls of these sort. especially of Fairy Tales or Folklores twisted

    18. A friend of mine has a doll that she made to look like Alice from Alice in Wonderland, and another friend made a Big Bad Wolf outfit for her boy. Actually, I think an Alice in Wonderland series would be awesome! There could be Alice, the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, and the Queen of Hearts. :3

    19. When I first started thinking of what dolls I wanted, this was one of the first pairs on my list. I also would love to do a sort of bear doll (human dressed as bear most likely) to go with it as well. :aheartbea

    20. I'd loooove to see this! And there's that one book (written in 1915 I think), possibly called The Lost Prince-- that'd be awesome to have dolls for some of the characters, especially Marco.

Reading his physical description the first time I read that book, I couldn't help but think he'd make an awesome BJD.
