1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJDs based off of Fairy tales/Folkore/Any story?

Nov 17, 2008

    1. Peter Pan is my favourite fairy tale, and I'm already well on my way to assembling a semi-complete cast. X3

    2. I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but my whole story, for all my dolls, was inspired by the legends of Merlin, King Arthur, and the knights of the round table.

We were studying it in English class last year, and it kind of inspired me to create a whole world for them. :3

    3. My Vasilisa is inspired by the character who features in many Russian fairy tales. However, while the traditional Vasilisa the Wise (or the Beautiful) is one of those women who is not only intelligent but very good-hearted and always gets the (male) protagonist out of a jam (I love all the smart, resourceful women in folklore!), my Vasilisa (the Cunning) is a little more jaded and selfish, only eventually growing to explore her gentler side through her interaction with Rada.

Several of my future characters are also inspired by fairy tales or old ballads, although, like Vasya, I've changed them to suit my own purposes.

And some props I wanted to give:
      1. I'm so with you on not finding Tanith Lee to be top of the adult fairytale heap. I went through a Tanith Lee phase and then when I noticed some of her formulas, I went through an anti-Tanith Lee phase, and eventually I passed through that too, but I still feel like...there are other people out there! Like Charles de Lint, who I haven't noticed in this thread...writing mostly new stories (not so much re-tellings) but with many familiar fairy-tale type characters in a modern setting.
      2. I loooooove the Datlow/Windling anthologies too, and Jane Yolen is amazing. Not strictly speaking a fairy tale, but it would be interesting to see dolls inspired by her sister light/sister dark universe (actually, now that I think of it, the dark/light Soom Onyx dolls would work really well for that!).

      Um...Adventure??? Win!!!

    4. Peter Pan - the 2003 version. :D
