1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

BJDs in amongst the Walmart Generation

Jan 28, 2010

    1. That is a great picture! XD

    2. ummmn no, my parents do not by my dolls, ive been saving money from babysitting for 5 months to buy my doll. so i dont really appretiate that...... and i dont tell people how much she costs but they do notice when it takes that long to save for one. he just says things like that because he wants me to save for a car.

    3. I actually had somewhat of the same discussion with my coworker/friend yesterday. I didn't tell him how much I had spent on the dolls, (I find it awkward to discuss money even with my Fiance or Mom) but he apparently knows people who are also in the hobby, so he has an estimate. I told him I was painting dolls yesterday when I had a day off and he offhandedly commented that I must have an expensive hobby.

I kinda had a second where I considered many responses, some rude, most not, and went with: You spend a lot on your hobbies too. Why go to the concert when you can watch the dvd?

He has avast array of movies (I do too, but we DO work at a movie store) but his big expenses are music, Having bought plane tickets and concert tickets for a concert in Toronto, dropping money on a digital copy of his favorite artist's Cd, as well as two physical copies, an artbook of her costumes, (or three) as well as concert DVDs and such. He agreed, and admitted he's spent some thing like 3 grand in a year. I considered again, as I've spent about $600 per doll. The first year was expensive, but less than he spends in a year, and I haven't bought anything else since.

For my other friends, I feel like the don't necessarily understand but I think they'd never say anything.

    4. When I first found out about BJDs, I was astounded by how much they cost. But coming from the movie industry, I see that you get what you pay for. It's hard to put a price on quality and less people these days appreciate a finely crafted item. A big part of it was my own ignorance of the hobby. I didn't know any better until I had done my research and had a better understanding of it all. Now that I know more, I can justify the price, I know I'm getting "more" for my money.

    6. A Barbie pales in comparison with an decently made bjd. I never, ever wanted dolls when I was a kid. I had one Barbie that someone got me as a gift, I rarely touched her. In general, I actually dislike most dolls. I'm been more into My Little Ponies or other animal toy collecting.

However, the bjds are like art. The faces on them can be gorgeous! I love the high quality aspect and their fully posable. Not to mention the clothes and accessories. Customizable from face, to hair, to everything! This is what has attracted me to wanting my first bjd. To me they are a sort of 3-d art. Not "just a doll" and certainly nothing like Barbie. :P

    7. I'm pretty sure the person in that pic was someone banned from DoA for stealing people's BJDs.

    8. Nefla I know now and I'm taking that pic down, thank you :)
