Blue Fairy Pocket Fairy Discussion part 2

Dec 18, 2012

    1. I received my girl today! She is beautiful well made but the worse packaging I have ever had from a doll company :(. Paper thin box smashed, no bubble wrap around the doll itself just the box

[IMG] , rubber band that didn't hold the doll. The doll was free flying in the box with no support. My husband shook it thought he ordered a USB cable because it rattled.

    2. @Cinibunny I got a baked Noma and he came in a box like that, but he was tied down with ribbon and elastic, and did not shuffle around in his box at all. Maybe your doll had such a turbulent trip that he got loose? Or maybe your Yoko was packed before being secured? And when you choose the "No make up" option, it doesn't come with eyes-- it's ready to be completely customized how you like.

    3. Wow, that's a big change with the box! When I got my two Pocket Fairies (Orange Betty and Limited White Choice Roel), they came in boxes similar to the larger Shiny Fairy and Tiny Fairy dolls, complete with pillows. But that was in 2013.

    4. @Reynardine Up until now, they've been coming in little cardboard boxes like the bigger dolls did-- the fold-in tops and the carrying handles (picture credit to Ellesmera). This new window box looks like the boxes Jerry Berry dolls come in. I'm with you-- I prefer the rectangle boxes that could fit 2 (or 3!) dolls in at once.

    5. This picture prompted me to think of ‘teacup dolls’ - like teacup chihuahuas. Love them.

    6. I think it's the fault of the company for not properly packging the doll. Not the best method for packaging the doll and for being such an old company how did they think this would protect the doll? If it broke it they would need to push the costs resulting in money loss. I did see a piece of resin in my box (still hoping it's junk resin x.x) I took a glance at the doll but didn't see where it came from nothing looked damaged for that. The head cap was also chipped a bit from opening not sure if that's common but wanted to state it some people have issues with these damages (for me it's not a big deal). It was a Christmas present so I can't do much with her right now I'm looking forward to modding her though super happy about that. As for the eyes I looked on their website and read that right after I got her I don't remember when they changed policies. Thing is most companies will give you a random set to not ruin the magic of opening your doll. I feel like you get a special kind of atmosphere when opening your new doll revelaing it etc. But agreed they did change too much over the years and love the teacup photo btw! Sorry for being a debbie downer and a bit of a rant but at least for me this is important maybe to others too exp the high price tag of these dolls. Also! I hope I can get some nice modding in as well for my pocket fairy! Going to be making her wig (first time! ) Faceup needs to be done when it's warmer super clear will be fogged up and maybe attempting to make the outfit as well (I don't sew but maybe tinier is easier? Not sure.)

    7. Have you talked to Blue Fairy about the chip and the extra resin? They would want to make things right for you. I'm sorry you've had this experience! :( Hopefully, it won't be too difficult for you to find some 8mm eyes in your area, so you don't have to pay shipping on such small items!

As for the clothes and sewing them: this is going to involve off-topic dolls for the sake of comparison (and also please bear with my messy desk photo taken after dark here in my room). Dollightful has a pair of videos on her Youtube channel about taking apart doll clothes to make your own patterns. (The second video is about altering the patterns you've made from the first video.)

Okay, so here's some affordable clothes that might be easier to find, that you might not feel bad about seam-ripping for your own purposes!

From left to right, we've got a Pocket Fairy and two Lottie Dolls. Pocket Fairy Charlie is wearing Lottie's clothes, Blonde Lottie is wearing Pocket Fairy clothes, and Redhead Lottie is wearing clothes from Target's "Lori" doll (American Girl Mini Doll competitor) line.

Lottie clothes (what PF Charlie is wearing) are just a teeny tiny bit too short for Pocket Fairies-- the straps on the overalls are tight over the shoulders, and those striped tights expose doll butt crack. However, skirts and the t-shirts are a good fit! (You can buy Lottie doll outfits by themselves without the dolls.) Lottie doll shoes are TOO SMALL for Pocket Fairy feet, by the way. PF Charlie is wearing Pocket Fairy shoes. So if you did buy some Lottie doll clothes to reverse engineer, you'd have to make very small adjustments to the lengths of torso/leg/arm measurements, but the rest of the patterns should work just fine for you!

And I know I should have put a Pocket Fairy in those Target Lori Doll clothes, but I didn't have a completely strung PF hanging around (sorry). The Target Doll Lori clothes and shoes are much too big for Lottie, and somewhat big on Pocket Fairies, too. The pants/tights are way too short for Lotties and Pocket Fairies. HOWEVER, the Target Lori Doll clothing sets are usually less than $9, and they're often on sale (especially now that we're close to Christmas), so they're a good candidate for Dollightful's seam-ripping approach to making your own patterns-- they're a good base to start experimenting with.

I've got no advice for wigs (you can see-- I didn't even put PF Charlie's wig on right! Or the eyes! Yikes!), so I can only wish you the best of luck!! I can't wait to see what you create!! <3

    8. I haven't talked to them yet I wasn't sure if I should mention it because I would need to go through the dealer Angelsque and she was super sweet and very responsive through the whole order. Here is a couple photos with the headcap. A bit on the box again (it looks like her face got smashed against the front and nose inditation is on the plastic.) Also the mysterious resin piece. [IMG]
Looks like they opened her a bit too heavily on the cap but not sure If this is normal for tiny dolls? Not too much concerned because she will be wearing a wig over it.[IMG]
      [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Really think that it might be junk resin still can't figure out where that came from the joints look fine as well so I'm not concerned about it.

This is amazing thank you so much for sharing your info :D! Really appreciate it :hug:and no worries making dolls pretty just means everything else gets messy. These are so cute as well and very useful I will look more into this soon. Thankfully I found the perfect shoes for her so the shoes won't be an issue and with pocket fairy their bodies are so odd it is a puzzle piece trying to find the right outfit sometimes so a bit of modding sounds wonderful for the clothing. I am really excited about this!

Ah no worries I still have an mad who is lacking a faceup and clothing her body is harder to find clothes for even for pocket fairy. The company doesn't have many outfits and it's hard for them to ship outside Japan. This is my first time making wigs ( I bought a goathair weft for the fluffy hair she has.) and sewing I thought I might get a bit more creative than just faceups. I will post pictures of my progress really excited about the customization! I am basing her off an OC I have called Rain really curious how the end results will be. Will keep updated :dance

    9. I'm going to suggest that the piece of plastic is FOD manufacturing lingo for *foreign object debris* I work in manufacturing lol and I've also had FOD fall out of my BF's upon arrival and moving them about or in their boxes. The head cap looks normal to what I have seen on my current collection of 14 PF's they're all fitting like yours is fitting with some gapping.

edit: removed the bad link most of my pics recently deleted from flickr with their new guidelines :(

    10. Tlim happy that it's just junk resin I kind of figured really happy to hear that it isn't anything broken. For the head cap I wasn't sure because I've ordered from other companies and never had indentations on it. Overall I think the packaging just made me overall doubt the doll as well. Also your photo is adorable! Love the outfits!

Happy New Year everyone! Let's have a lot of fun with our dollies this year :)

About the packaging discussed earlier: my tan Charlie also came in new box, he was strapped by those white bands, but headcap was off. Luckily there was no damage, but I also think that pillows were safer.

Also, magnetic headcap adds problems where I could never suspect them: since there's less space in head now, eye changing and positioning is a pain :( Do you have any tips?

    12. I usually take small heads off the body to put in eyes.

    13. Happy New Year, wow, it's been more than a year since anyone posted, probably that long since I've looked in myself, been thinking about getting a new PF with the special BF has going right now, I've always wanted and PF Annie sugar and a PF Sleeping face Roa, hesitating on skin tone Does anyone have the snow white skin? would love to see a pic if you do :D

    14. Just trying to revive the thread with little something :whee: I hope you all are doing well in this COVID madness :sweat

midolls*melissa, if your question is still active, I have Tiny Fairy Emilie in snow white. Not sure how to illustrate her tone difference, though, since the rest of my Blue Fairy crew is quite old and their normal skin might be different from current offers.

    15. love your photo of your pocketfairy! looks like you have made them matching outfits, so cute! thank you for your link to Emilie, she is beautiful.
I ordered my new pocketfairy long ago and have had my new girls Annie and Roa since May.
I didn't get them in snow white, went with what I new and got them both in beauty white.
thanks for responding and reminding me to post their photo here :)
Roa's body was one that I already had in the classic girl style but Annies is the newer body with the locking elbow and knee joints and I love it.
wish I could now change out all of my pocketfairy but the skin tones would never match and it would be quite costly.

      My new Annie and Roa,

    16. I'm wanting a Pocket Fairy as my next doll, but it's so hard to choose! I'm leaning towards getting a Choco this week.

      • x 1
    17. I didn't order Choco last month, but I did order a Charlie yesterday! Hopefully she'll get to me safe even though the new boxes seem rather flimsy.

    18. Does anyone have a pocket fairy with a sister body?
I have a couple girls with the sugar body, and it’s so tempting to get just one more...
