1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Bought first doll, now what?

Aug 19, 2014

    1. I recently got my first doll last month, and sometimes, I take her out of her box to take photos of her. x'D Other times, I just place her on the sofa inside my room, that, or when I'm doing some work or watching a movie or something like that, I might place her somewhere near me or something like that.
Recently, I purchased some new dresses and shoes for her. That's probably what I'm going to do most in the future, buying her stuff [aside from taking photos of her, and fussing with her, that is]. That, or when my studies clear up, I want to try my hand at sewing her stuff as well.

    2. Since I don't know it's exact body size, I cannot mad her close until it arrives... so, eventually... naked. lol But frankly speaking, I like that state cause I think the line and all the jointed arms and legs are amazing and kind of beautiful.

    3. I got my first BJD very recently. She's an Island Doll Amy Palace Versailles. The day of the box opening, I took some time off work and spent a lot of time designing and creating her home. It's a painted cardboard box that previously housed a disessembled Ikea ottoman. I used scrapbook materials to decorate the walls and built a sofa and table for her. As far as clothes, I bought her with the full set, so I dressed her in the outfit she came with and started sewing her new wardrobe on the 3rd day after getting her. Since she is my first, I waited to get her in the mail before sewing since I didn't quite understand the measurements. :) I plan on wiping her face and trying out my first face up on my girl as soon as I can get my hands on some MSC. ;)

    4. I got my doll quite recently :) After I did his faceup, I dressed him up then I let him pose for a bit and took some photos. Now he sits on my desk, his legs hanging over the edge. Sometimes I carry him around and he sits beside me on the sofa, but usually he's upstairs in my room. I sometimes also just hold him and admire the craftmanship hehe. i need to think of a name for him and a backstory but so far, nothing yet.

    5. for me personally I don't like looking at naked bodies, so whenever I get a new doll I dress them up asap, Plus i try to model my dolls after my existing oc's so most of the outfit is already pre-made.

    6. My first bjd spent most of her time naked, with no eyes, no hair, and wrapped like a burrito in a blanket for about a month. Until she started getting hand me down things from my cousins dolls. I was completely unprepared for my very first. She had next to nothing for a long time.
The dolls after her were at least semi prepared, but just enough to look decent. I didn't get the timing of ordering things right. A few things didn't arrive before they came, and so they sat with nothing for a while as well.

By my fifth doll, I had everything she could ever need already here waiting for her. Finally got the timing right & she basically had hand me ups from other dolls. So she was ready right out of the box opening.

Took some time for me, others it may not. Depends on the person and the decisions they make. Just do what you are comfortable with & what pleases you & the new addition. :)

    7. My doll didn't arrive yet but i already got some clothes for him. And currently working on a diorama for him. Now its like waiting for a baby to be born.

    8. my dolls have been in a cupboard most of their lives (four years), now I'm *finally* getting around to getting them painted

    9. I like to have a wig and new outfit waiting for them when they arrive - nothing too fancy for the clothes, but something I haven't already photographed another doll in twenty times. Even if it's not their final look, it's a start. Then it's off to their first photoshoot. They usually don't make their blog debut until I have their look and character figured out, though.

    10. I got my first bjd this summer and ordered her a wig and clothes around the same time, so everything was ready for her when I got her. And then one of my cats grabbed her wig and ran with it, so I had to do some more shopping. I just placed an order for the clothes that are going to make up her warm weather outfit - I love shopping for bjd clothes, so that was a lot of fun. It's funny that I like to do that because I hate shopping for clothes for myself.

I've been taking pictures of her like I'm the paparazzi, and I just went to my first bjd meet-up. So far this hobby has been a lot of fun! Now I'm trying to convince myself that I do not need to buy a second doll.

    11. I just bought my first, got a head in a convention sale taht I fell in love with, and then ordered a Mirodoll boy body. Thus I learned the vagaries of matching heads and bodies, because now I have a head that doesn't fit! Now I'm carefully shopping for the new head that works with this body. I've already weirdly gotten him clothed. Working on accessories. I do think I'm creeping myself out a little with him, no head on there....

    12. After opening the box, I put his wig cap on. I bought some wigs for him and after they arrived, I always have one on him. I did buy some clothes online, but they were going to take a while to get here, so I started making a nightgown for him right away. Even when it was unfinished, I kept it on him because I didn't want William to be naked. It was my first sewing project, so it took 3 days to complete entirely. XD

I've been buying props and I also got a sailor uniform since my Taobao order is still going to take a while... I haven't been researching things about doll care like I should be though. The only thing I have learned is by chatting in the forum, but at least I know to clean all dark clothes with water and vinegar!

I don't like keeping him in the box. My mom got an American doll bed from a friend since her daughter got out of that, so that's where he usually is. I'm so happy that the bed was the perfect size for him! I also got a doll brush and skateboard for free, so that was awesome.

I do put him away in his box when I work though, because I have dogs and don't trust one of them.

He's not somewhere in direct sunlight because I have heard that this causes yellowing. I also heard that some people use gloves when handling their dolls, but I don't do that, I just make sure my hands are clean. I did order white under clothes for when he wears black pants, because I have heard that wearing black clothes for a long period can cause staining. I didn't get an undershirt though, so I will either need to make one with thin white cloth or order one online. I think I rather make this when necessary because then I can make as many as I need based on the type of shirt.

My big sister and her boyfriend's grandma are going to make an Alice in Wonderland type dress for him (though I don't know what color it will be), so that's pretty cool! And I am currently working on sweats for him. ^^

    13. The first thing I did when my first doll arrived was take pictures of her, she was (and is) so beautiful that I just had to share it with people.
Once I had done that I dressed her the way I thought she should look and kept her by my side for the rest of the evening. I don't do much with my doll, she mostly just sits by me and watches me doing stuff on my computer but I love her to pieces :)
