It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. 1. box openings are special because they are the climax to the process of buying a doll. after ordering a doll online that you've probably have only seen on pictures, paying and Waaaaaaaaaiting lol biting your nails for as long as it takes for it to get home it's totally worth it to record the moment and share it. i do like them very much!

2. Yeah, there are videos where you don't get to see the doll till 90% into the video. Typically, the person spend forever opening the outer box, then delves into every detail - opening pamphlets and looking carefully at whatever spare parts or clothes or empty eye boxes that came with the doll.

I would put the extras aside and look at the doll first, I think, to keep the audience engaged :-)

Not that I would make an unboxing video. :-p

3. I like watching box opening videos to see what the doll I'm interested looks like from a different view or perspective. Sometimes I want to order a doll but I can't find any photos of the except what the company puts out. I like seeing dolls in video or in photos taken by their owners to get that unique or different view of the doll. I also like seeing how excited the new doll owner is with the box opening.

4. Box openings are awesome!
You can share the happiness and excitement of someone who has just received a new doll, just like you mentioned!
You can also see the sculpt better, how it looks like in pictures that were not professionally taken, with and without a face-up (sometimes). You can get a better notion of how the doll looks in different settings...
Also, I love when the new owners described things like poseability, the feel of the resin, and talk about how the entire experience (from purchasing the doll online to seeing it in real life for the first time) felt to them, which I find very interesting! :)

5. Box openings have always been my favourite part of the forums. Even at times when I'm not active in the hobby I still drop in to check box openings once in a while.

It's fun to share in the excitement of unboxing a doll. On a more practical level, it's also interesting to see how well different companies package their dolls, how the doll poses out of the box, how company face-ups look in owner pics etc...

I prefer photos to videos, a mix of photos and videos is good too.

6. I am 100% a box opening addict. When waiting for a doll myself, I become OBSESSED with them. I literally check the box opening gallery at least twice a day, whilst scouring YouTube for new box opening videos.

I guess it's because it's such a special but brief part of owning a doll, I love feeding off of people's experiences. As such, I ADORE photographing box openings and I hope to record one for YouTube soon as well. <3

7. I wasn't too excited than I expected to. You see BJDs on the website while they are all 'dolled up :D' with perfect hair and make-up. But when they are all naked it's kind of disappointing. I think the most exciting part is to customize your own doll. So I was more excited when I received doll's head with make-up just as I ordered.

8. I love to watch them on youtube.
It's fun seeing the pure joy of the doll-receiver and you also get a little insight on how things are packed and look like in the beginning.
But I'm a little bit on the weird side anyways. I also enjoy watching bjd reviews of bjds I'd never even consider buying.
I guess I just want to know how things work..

9. I like watching box openings, really. When I first got into dolls they helped give me more of an idea of the sizes that were available. I usually skip to the part where the doll is being pulled out of the box though. As for my own box openings, I don't ever take pictures or video because I usually just rip everything open to make sure nothing is damaged. I guess I get anxiety first, happiness and excitement after.

10. I would say it depends on the model of the doll. If it's a sculpt that i'm not interested in, then i just won't bother looking at the box opening.

11. LOVE them. I look at them everyday. It's just so exciting and there is a wealth of information. Videos can be cute and I like them if they're not too long.

12. I like good ones...Some really annoy me...I watched one for a tiny I'm hoping to get and I was literally like "SERIOUSLY!?" When she spent the entire video going through the freebies then just barely holding up the doll to the camera and was like: "Well there she is!"

I know that's just how some people are but if it was already a few minutes of my time gone then barely seeing the little thing...Then why? I like looking at Photography box openings a little better for this reason. I can breeze past the free stuff if any and see the doll.

I also love seeing photostory styled ones. >W< They can be soo funny!

13. I'll start by noting that nobody in my day-to-day real life knows that I have a bjd hobby. So the idea of seeing and sharing the hobby with other on this site may be more of an outlet for my enjoyment than others here. So...

Some videos are fun to me, I rarely get to see/hear other people get excited about their dolls and it's a great way for me to feel less isolated when it comes down to it. However, like so many others have said - when they spend 4 minutes fumbling with their scissors or knives, and then clearly pushing too hard or cutting straight down and making me cringe because I KNOW their going to scratch the nice box inside (the worst!)... I can do without a lot of that. But if they're talking about something interesting while doing all that, I'll stay along for the ride.
It does bother me if they spend the entire time petting the doll's wig and looking at it while talking too though. Show us the cute doll for a minute or 2, and then end the video pretty please. You can take all the time in the world to bond with your darling afterwards ;) Thank you :):)

Photo story box openings are wonderful too. I just spent a few hours on my latest opening for my 2 newest tinies, but I didn't drag it out in the thread - I threw very little dialogue and notes in it and let the pictures do more of the work. It was a lot of fun and gave me an opportunity to play with them at length while also sharing my excitement with DoA peoples.

I'm still new enough to the hobby to get excited for other's new dolls, even if they're the same scenario as far as photostories go. Of course the more creative, detailed, and fun ones are more enjoyable to read/look at.
The ones that show 2 pictures and that's it are really a pretty big letdown.

But I find the box opening area of DoA to be a great source of discovery and information. There are so many dolls that I never knew existed until I saw someone excited posting pictures of them when they arrived.

Its the best way for *me* to expose myself to different facets of the bjd world. I don't tend to go to random discussion threads for dolls I haven't seen before! So how else will I learn what's out there that I might enjoy?

Thank you to everyone who posts box openings!

14. I love box openings! I have been in the hobby for more than 7 years now, but I find them interesting still. I especially like to see pictures of new molds, how they are different from the company pics (if at all), of doll I've never seen in person or those I know I won't buy. I hardly ever get to do a proper box opening for my own dolls: They usually land up in customs - and it spoils a LOT of the fun having to open your doll box in front of the scrutinizing eye of a customs officer …
Some videos are quite cute, but I prefer photos. I just don't have the patience to watch owner fumbling with the packaging or squeeing over a freebie cookie for too long. Photostories are pretty cool! I also enjoy the "pet in the box" pictures …

15. I absolutely love box openings! I haven't really watched any videos, but I've looked at the photosets of box openings so many times. I don't think I'll ever stop enjoying box openings, it's always exciting to have waited so long and then finally having the chance to open the lid and hold your new doll for the first time. I'm always excited for other people to get new dolls as well, so it's just as exciting seeing someone else's box opening, I get to feel excited with them. I think that's one of the best things about this hobby, it's always just as exciting to open the box when a new doll arrives.

16. Box opening is not my favorite part of the process, but it is very pleasant and exciting to say "at least, he/she's home !". I don't take pictures of video of the box opening, it's not that important for me. I did it for the very first one I received (EID Eva from Iplehouse) but that's all :D

17. i don't really like box openings. if it's my close friend receiving a doll they were waiting for then i'd feel different because i am really happy for them (anything that makes a friend happy usually makes me happy by proxy), but otherwise they just don't seem very appealing to me.

i understand why people enjoy them and like them but if i open a box myself it makes me feel nervous. what if i don't like the doll? what if there is a problem with it? it happens sometimes... i would not want to share my disappointment with others in that case. i prefer to share pictures of a doll once i at least am fairly sure i like it and am going to keep it, and once i've done any modifications it needs, and stuff like that.

i did one box opening for my friend after he asked me to do it on webcam, as it was a doll he really wanted to see immediately. it was fun in a way, because the two of us could talk about it as i showed the doll off, but i wouldn't do it again unless i was asked to... it was more for my friend's benefit than mine. my enjoyment comes from the actual doll.

weirdly, i do get a rush out of box opening anime figures, but again only for myself mostly. i think this is because they are usually produced to a much more uniform standard than dolls. i can think of maybe only 1-2 times where i received a figure and didn't like it and they were cheap 500yen figures. i keep a lot of my figures MIB until i want the nice feeling of opening the box before they go on display somewhere. therefore i suspect the reason i dislike doll box openings is because there is no guarantee of getting what you expected [from my POV]

18. I love them! Even if there isn't a story to go along with it, I love seeing what people have gotten. It's especially nice to see what a doll looks like for real right out of the box, not just from the company photos.

19. I love box openings (and actually find it really sad that Soom MD box openings are so much rarer now than they were 2-3 years ago!). I must admit it's not really about 'sharing' anyone's excitement, though :sweat. I'm only really interested in box openings of dolls I'm waiting for (since I almost always buy on layaway, and so other peoples' dolls arrive well before mine), and I mostly enjoy them because they show me more detail of what I've bought. With companies like Soom being such fans of image editing, it can be really hard to imagine how a doll will look in person, and box openings really help with that!

I'm not a huge fan of video box openings, just because they're usually more focused on the owners reactions, when all I want are clear close-ups of the doll :XD:

20. I got into this whole BJD thing partly because of Kitty Blue's videos. I was thinking hard about getting a certain OT American BJD and her video for opening hers talked me right into it, lol. In fact she did such a good job that I now have SEVEN of them. I love box opening videos and posts. They let me see what a doll looks like far better than any publicity pic.
