1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I really enjoy watching box openings and feel like it helps me get through the waiting period for when my own arrives ;) I also like to see how other companies wrap their things and like to see if there are any free gifts included. I feel like such a nerd and think my husband might just think I've jumped off the deep end with my new obsession lol, but yes, I do enjoy them. I also love the fukubukuro box openings from DollHeart bjd clothing

    2. Ok so this post is generally so I can get some feedback. I recently ordered a Luts Pegasus sold out doll from Dolk because they had 1 left. The doll came brand new but in trying to do a box opening video it essentially caused me to rush through the process causing the resin makeup to come off because the hoofs kept rubbing together. Luckily I was able to work out arrangements with Dolk who explained even if they did rub they shouldn't have came off that easily because the spray should have kept it sealed good. They were kind of enough to issue a refund or store credit with a small restocking fee to send it to Luts for repair. The shipping cost back was almost $100. *sigh* With this being said, is there a requirement of doing a box opening for people to experience it with you or should you just put everything together, than film and take pictures??? I'm just really upset about the whole situation cause during a box opening with a doll like Pegasus where you have three different boxes with wings accessories, etc. There just has to be a better way right? Anyway, I'm posting this for feedback cause I can't do a box opening feeling rushed through for fear this may happen again. So I'm open to any ideas or suggestions. I just really want people to see the doll in the video because this will give them a real life look before they buy. Thanks for reading!

    3. If it bothers you, doing videos or photo's during the opening, then...don't do it? I never take box opening photo's, it's just not a thing I've ever felt necessary to the process and I don't watch other peoples openings either. If I want to see what a doll looks like in owners shots, I'll wait for them to turn up in the galleries or if I'm that hungry for a look, request pics in the appropriate section. It's not compulsory, and if the doll is sold out, no one's going to be buying it off the back of the photos/video anyway, so there's no rush.

    4. Box openings are definitely not mandatory, and not for everybody. They're meant to share an owner's excitement for the arrival of a new doll. But we all know what it's like receiving a new doll, and taking him/her out of the box, you want to be careful and delicate, and that's fine. Also if you're filming it. Videos can be timelapsed so a three hour spectacle of a box opening will only take 1 minute or whatever you want it to be. Don't feel rushed, is my point. Do your box opening for yourself, enjoy it. And if you don't enjoy it, or if you're worried about your doll, don't do it. It's totally up to you.

    5. I have to admit that I love the box opening section, seeing what the doll looks like out of the box and sharing the moment with the owner. I like to see the photos, I would not be as interested in videos though, just a personal choice. I agree with Jemey that the box opening shouldn't be rushed, just enjoy the opening for yourself first. As someone who has been collecting artist dolls for nearly 20 years (only a recent convert to bjd) I have always loved that moment where I finally get to see the doll. As it happens an artist doll that I had been waiting for about 10 years to get finally went up for sale recently and I was lucky enough to be able to purchase her. I was so excited opening the box (nearly cried with delight at one point) and she was so gorgeous when I finally got to see and hold her. I would have loved to share that moment with other doll collectors.

    6. I don't do box opening pics or videos. I like to look at them when I want to see a specific sculpt without face-up or owner pics of them but I don't like to do them myself at all.

    7. Where's the "I don't do box openings" choice? :) I do take my dolls out of the box. Hell, many times I throw out the box after....no room here to keep most of those. Don't feel bad about not doing a box opening. I don't do them, nor will I ever. Not my cup of tea.

    8. Video:
I watch them if I want to know how a company sends their dolls and how they package. Usually when I'm bored also. I prefer quick / fast forwarded BO's (you know, edited ones) without annoying loud music and were the owner actually shows the doll as well. I don't make video's myself.

      Photos:
I'm a bit sad I didn't take pictures of my first doll's BO. There have been a few others I skipped, but lately I have been photographing them again. I'm not interested in photographing every single step, as I myself am also more interested in the contents than the packaging (so, no shot of every layer of bubblewrap). I don't read photostories. I just look at the pictures and like BO's where there is little text. I'm lazy. xD

      Keeping boxes:
I do. Just in case I ever should sell them (and to store things and to use the pillows).

I don't consider them mandatory and you should do whatever makes you enjoy the BO the most. Wether you are recording / photographing it or not. ^.^ I do like the excitement of the owners, which even shines through photo's. It makes me happy.

    9. I don't do BO photos. Really I can't understand the use for me! The photo session of finished doll in outfit, wig, make up, etc - one thing. But photos of newly arrived nude doll...
Well. on other hand, it's sometimes interesting to see "before" and "after" in others BO threads)

    10. Thanks everyone for the advice. I think when I get my next bjd I'll do a video but maybe edit it and go slower cause Shirelae made an excellent point about packaging! That's a great reason for watching a video!

    11. I like to see others open their boxes. And I'm very happy for people, who resieved their new doll-family members etc.
I however never take pictures, when my dolls arrive. Because they are naked and I think they are shy >__<

    12. I only do them if I have something less common that's arrived, so others can see how the doll has shipped out, and likewise I generally only look at openings for less common dolls. That said, I never waste my time watching videos, and the ones that are photostories tend to bore me. A picture or two of the new doll posed with another one is fine, but five photos of a doll holding scissors on an unopened box just gets my scroll-wheel a workout. :sweat (There are a couple of owners who do some pretty entertaining photostory box openings, though, I do have to admit.)

There's no requirement to do it at all. And I don't always do it; I did an opening for my DollPamm girl, because hardly anyone owns those, but my last FairyLand order? I just took some pictures when everyone was out and assembled (and one of the head/body arrival mismatch), and never really put them anywhere but my own Flickr account. There's enough FairyLand openings. I certainly don't begrudge anyone doing them, but I have enough dolls that I don't feel the need, personally, to post any pictures. And I'll never do a video.

    13. I enjoy to watch the box opening! I could know what items it is and It helps if I will have any plan to buy the same things!

    14. Since I'm new to the BJD hobby, I find that the box openings on youtube are a great! Yes, sometimes they can be boring, but I also find them very informative as to what to expect from various manufacturers.

    15. I have only taken some photos when they arrived with the box but not in details and I haven't posted on forum. But I like to watch other's box opening. it makes me excited! :)

    16. I like Box opening because whenever I order a doll I'm searching for box opening video for it to see how it looks in real, and it is really helpful when you order full set doll, so you can see what will come in the box and how it's packed, I like and enjoy box opening and always want to see the doll after it is fully dressed, although I don't usually do box opening, I have 6 dolls and I did it only one time because when I do box opening my full attention is focused on the camera to check if it shows everything correctly also I control my feelings because I don't want to go crazy screaming and say cute or beautiful 100 times in a minute in a video that will be published publicly :) so I prefer to save most of my box opening as a private thing :)

    17. I don't really enjoy box openings. I enjoy photos and videos though of the product in completion!

    18. I love box opening but mostly, I only really like the ones with a doll I'm planning to get or want or already have. To see what it looks like outside of the company photos.

    19. I enjoy them. I like to share in a new owners excitement!

    20. I like the normal openings, but I especially like the ones where the owners make cute little photostories.
