1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. I like box openings. It's good place to look for dolls blank and out-of-the-box posing ability. >_> And to see which companies send goodies...

I don't really care for the photostory box openings since I'm not very familiar with everyone's characters in the first place. @_@'

    2. I love box opening posts, but find the videos ridiculously boring unless it's a sculpt I'm very interested in and haven't seen much of. The videos just take up way too much time. I don't really care if there's a photostory or not in the posts - most of the photostories are very similar anyway. I've done a few boring box openings mainly just so people could see what the dolls look like. I feel like posting in the gallery would imply that I think my pictures are decent, while box openings are more informal and low quality pictures are more acceptable.

    3. I love box openings, even the really cliche ones. I admit I have a bias for crisp, clear photos and I like several shots to see what the doll looks like, but other than that, I could care less how it's done. Not everyone is going to make an epic story when box opening- that's not what they're for. I find their purpose to be to share in the excitement of a new doll arriving, and I love to be able to see a person get a doll they've really sought home.

I read a lot of them, just to look at the different sculpts- a box opening was how I stumbled across my grail doll (volks Gretel), so I definitely take a look at them to see if it's a sculpt I would like. I don't think I would have came across her otherwise because at the time I had no interest in Volks sculpts. I may not comment if I don't have anything to say (or if I simply end up not liking the doll- I never want to insult a happy owner), but I do enjoy reading them when I don't have anything important to do. ^^

    4. I love box openings! My favorites are the ones that start with a blank doll and end with a completed one--it's so cool to see the transformation.

    5. I love box openings, especially ones that involve dolls on my to-buy list! :D I actively search for thosr in particular. I like videos because I like to see proper size comparisons and such, but I like photographic ones too, especially photostory ones x3 I also like to see what to expect packaging-wise from other companies. It's just something I do, it gets me excited about getting dolls, watching other people get them, teehee :D

    6. ^This is my stance on them. I've only seen one photostory style opening that I really liked, but for the most part I skip down to pics of the actual doll I wanted to see.

    7. box openings were great when my first bjd was on his way home. i liked being able to see the process and know what to expect. i also LOVE box openings where you get to see how excited the new doll owner is. it makes me happy and makes me want to open my dolls for the first time all over again, every time i have bought a new doll i have looked up box openings on them, im not sure why but its comforting and exciting for me.

    8. I like looking a box openings especially for new molds and companies. It's fun and informative. Not a fan of the videos though. I skip over those and go straight to the pretty pictures.

I stopped doing my box openings a long time ago. Too much work to get things cleaned and make sure the camera is charged and blah blah blah. I just wanna rip that box open and get to my dolly. :D

    9. I used to think they were boring butnow that I am waiting for my first doll I find them a lot more entertaining.

    10. I'm pretty neutral on box openings, though I don't usually like to sit through the videos. I get bored really easily. I don't usually visit the box opening thread often, but occasionally I'll just lurk in there and look at different openings. Before my new boy got here, I was hunting for Iple box openings, just so I'd be prepared. Other than that, eh.

Granted, I say this as I'm getting ready to post a box opening myself. >3> Hurr.

    11. I like them because I can get a good idea of what the doll actually looks and behaves like than just having to go off of pictures from the company website. I typically only look at threads of dolls I'm interested in though, and I find I don't care for videos. Picture threads are quicker for me too look at than a video. Of the threads related to dolls I like, I find them interesting. Otherwise they are boring and I don't look at them unless I need to waste time.

For me it doesn't matter if they're turned into a photostory, though I prefer non-story threads as they are typically less time consuming and more informative.

    12. I watch box opening videos from time to time to check out the dolls I plan to get someday or have already purchased via layaway. I click through box opening threads to view photos of dolls I'm interested in. Once in a while, I random click threads to see random sculpts. Mostly, I find them to be interesting and loads of fun. I mainly check out box opening vids/threads to see how the dolls are packed and how big or small a doll is. Also love checking out the blank sculpts.

    13. I feel happy looking at them, probably because I also share the owners happiness :3 But also, you can see a character grow as fast as they get their wigs and stuff :D It's really amusing. But of course it's funnier when there is also a little story, followed by more pictures of other dolls together with the new one x3
Making them is not too funny though. It stops me from just opening the box really, really fast. But I know at least a few who really wants to see it, that's why I do it anyway. And it builds up the excitement a little too x3 x3

    14. I don't really look at box openings unless it is for a doll I'm curious about. I don't take box opening photos, I find it rather distracting from what I enjoy about the whole process of, well, opening the box. I like the first moment seeing my doll to be mine alone, really.

    15. For those saying it takes away from opening the box... that's why I have someone else take the photos. :D Or, at least, that's how Haiiro and I have done it so far. It seems to work out pretty well.

    16. As a newbie without a doll, I love looking up the Box Opening threads, especially ones that are from Iplehouse. I guess it's rather vicarious. :sweat Of course, I really love the Box Openings that have pets in them. :3 I think that they are a great way to show a doll in its "natural" form, so you can better expect what you'll be getting when your own doll arrives.

    17. I really don't care to see some person open a doll box. I almost made a box opening video myself and in mid stream thought, "What the heck am I doing? " i thin proceeded to turn the camera off and laugh a little at myself. I am not poo pooing anyone's joy and jubilation at opening their doll box for the first time. I just don't go rushing to Youtube.com in search of such videos. However if this is your thing, then more power to you!

    18. I love box openings. In fact, the more the merrier. They introduce me to sculpts I haven't seen before/taken notice of and they show me just how different a doll can look from person to person, camera to camera. Plus, when I'm expecting a doll, they just make me more excited, especially since I'm a nervous person by nature and, sometimes, I get so nervous that I forget the excitement of a new doll. :D

Video openings are actually my favorite because I love hearing people ramble about their doll/characters (if they do ramble, that is). On top of that, I sometimes watch them for scale purposes that I just can't get in pictures because, usually, the doll is photographed standing on a surface or the extra parts (if there are any) are sitting on the ground. I would've had no idea the general size of a Chalco hoof had I not watched a box opening of him. I figured they were big but not as big as a hand. O.o

    19. I love box openings. I can just feel the excitement, and they make my all the more excited for the day that big doll box shows up on my own doorstep.

    20. I love box openings! They're one of the first threads I check out when I visit DOA. When I was first lurking around the BJD hobby for a couple of days I thought it was kinda strange how popular it all was, but once I wanted my own doll it all made sense. Seeing the owner's excitement is addicting! It both provokes a feeling of "Ahhh, I want to be youuu!" when you're waiting for your own doll to arrive, and later lets you reminisce about how excited you were when your doll finally did arrive.

After all the time it takes for someone to save up for a doll, combined with long waiting times, it's really cool how people share in their misery/excitement here, be it waiting threads and box openings. It's a nice aspect of the community. Everyone's so supportive~ :3
