1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Breaks from the Hobby

Aug 31, 2017

    1. Does it count if the break isn't from collecting bjds?

My interest in bjds was finally allowed some indulgence this year as the direct result of my "break" from another doll collection. Selling other items allowed me funds to purchase my first full doll, and helped smooth the transition away from the other collection. That break is probably permanent, at least in terms of acquisition.

Taking a break from any hobby is healthy. Perspective is often what allows people to appreciate what they have, and it's hard to gain that perspective when you are completely immersed in a hobby.

    2. I'm just starting to come back from a social break from the hobby. I still worked with my dolls plenty, but I've always been heavily socially involved, whether planning or running meet-ups or just talking to a lot of people. Many of my friends moved away in some form or another, and then I moved as well. I've continued to work on my dolls, but we have a very small rental (hopefully not much longer!) so only two-three of my dolls are out at any given time and the rest are packed safely, along with most of my crafting equipment. The local meet up group I was able to find for my area is a tangentially-related-hobby-first-and-dolls-second group. Seeing as I have no interest in the local group's primary hobby, I passed on meeting up with them. I'm still hoping there might be enough people interested in just meeting up for some doll stuff or a swap to do it.

    3. Been on a break for a while. After I sold my first bjd I haven’t really been able to find a doll I’d be 100% sure I’d want to have. Since I regret my first doll, I often fear that my next one will be the same, but I know it won’t be true as long as I take my time. For now, I’m just looking at other people’s doll content and hoping the perfect one comes around!

    4. Sometimes I take breaks that last years. I box my girls up and rediscover them when I'm ready :)

    5. I am currently slowly returning to the hobby after a long break, I wanted to stop definitively but apparently I can't ! I have the impression that you can never really get rid of a passion.. I missed so much the contact with the other collectors, the meetings with my local friends, It's something really special, this hobby makes us meet great people !
But now that I've sold a big part of my collection, I'm taking my time to find the "right doll" to buy. I need a time of adaptation, I'm not accustomed to the expensive price of dolls anymore, especially with my student budget ! :')

    6. I slways take breaks from customising just to refresh myself and my brain

    7. I just came back from a long break actually. mostly because I didn't have the means to save up yet but now Im slowly getting back into it. I really enjoy the hobby so I can't stay away from it for too long!
