Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Building a doll house for larger dolls?

Oct 4, 2006

    1. nofunangie - that house is so awesome! ;w; How tall is it? Must be sooo huge. O.O; What did you make it from?

    2. We had to do something like that for my 3-D Design class, but we used Bristol Borad to make it. So I know it can be done.

I plan on taking my model and making it 1/3 for my dolls once get my own place.

    3. My dollhouse is around 6 feet tall, I use the top to store boxes, so it ends up being very tall! I just made it out of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood. I don't think that the plywood is very sturdy for something of this size though, so the next time around, my boyfriend and I are going to do a house that has "studs" more like a real house for added support. I also want to add an attic room since I now have more room to store dolly boxes in my new house. This time around I just added in fake windows, but I think I'd like to cut out real windows with a little box behind them to make the garden scene more realistic.

You can't see all the little details, since for some reason, the house is very hard to photograph in it's entirety. But it has "hardwood" floors which were stained and I used tape to make lines (painted in black) to make the wood look like slats. It's has baseboards, and I used a raised wallpaper spray- painted gold to look like old tin ceilings.

    4. Right now all my dolls have is an armchair and the top of my dresser. It was my original plan to set aside a part of my living room to put something together for them, but now I have a friend moving in with me. If I move agian with one of my dollfie buddies, we're going to rent a place with an extra bedroom for them.

    5. I think it was CBM who had a 3 story one, though it would be more likened to a "cubby house". I did consider it, from the mental exercise point of view, and do have the space to do so - it would take a garden shed all its own. But between ponies, synthesizers, dolls and making a garden railway, I just don't see me getting to it. In th unfortunate event that I did get a shed to do it, it would be full of other stuff real quick!

    6. This is one of those things I will be doing...but not until later in life, when I've got a place I think I'll live in for a while, with some extra room I can devote to building something like this in. I'm most likely going to approach it along the same lines as an outdoor children's playhouse - but in 1:3 scale. And, of course, I'll be doing some 'landscaping' around it to create a to-scale environment for outdoors shoots and interactions.

At this point, since I don't HAVE a yard that I can do that in, I've just been slowly collecting the things I'll be putting in the houses, and drawing up floorplans and the like.

And yes, I do mean houses. My dolls don't all live together, and have their own territories, and I fully intend on building something akin to a small 'doll village' with different styles and environments in my yard someday. For example, Umbrae lives in a place like a large gothic manor, with lots of land surrounding it, including both formal gardens and less tame forests. Talon, on the other hand, has a very modern mega-mansion, complete with security-fences and gated entries, and Darryl often stays there with him (or, basically lives there, as much as he lives anywhere). Hideo, Daiichi, and Hiiroshi have taken over a condemned warehouse in their city, and somewhat converted it into a livable space. Wren and Qian...kinda move from apartment to apartment, in different cities, provided by their employer (somewhat how Darryl did before he hooked up with Talon, except that he acquired the apartments and hotels himself). Sequoia and crew live in...ah...a forest. ^_^;; That one, at least, will be fairly easy.

It'd be a great place to hold meets, ne? Have to crouch down to squeeze through the openings, but not impossible.

    7. Shades of "The Cat Returns" eh?

    8. If it weren't for the teeny tiny fact that my parents would never let me attempt to do it and I won't be getting a house of my own for at least another 10 years, I'd jump at this. I really want to try my hand at making doll furniture now that I have some experience with power tools and know that I can handle them without sufficient damage to the things around me. I know it would be difficult, but it's definitely not impossible and with new dolls arriving at some point (maybe), I can't just continue to have one little wicker chair for my one little baby Costa. Someday though, if I'm still in the hobby (and I hope that I am), I'd like to try this for myself and see how I fair. Good luck on this endeaver!

    9. I would love, love, love this! Such a fantastic idea!

    10. well once X'mas is over...I plan to start the building again. XD I already bought flooring and some of the new hardware I'm going to need....might be built one room at a time but it'll get there

    11. I agree- Kiyakotari, your idea is so, so cool.

    12. Go to Ikea and look at some of their incredibly well designed apartments. They even have a one-room apartment that is less than 400 square feet, and has kitchen, bath, bed, living and dining "areas". Making a BJD home along those lines would not take over your entire living space.

      Genie

    13. I thought of building them a pirate ship since I own a book that has detailed diagrams of pirate ships...but it would be SO big and long! Bigger than my bed even! And I dont dare think to make it so it can be above water.

@ genie stallings: What size would fit in the apartment? MSD or SD sized?

      Edit: I just realized how dumb my question was, after reading the whole thing it sounds like your talking about an actual apartment...not a BJD apartment...gah...>.<;

    14. I also like the pirate ship theme, or space ship. Something that they travel and have adventures in. I have a bunch of female elves- so I alway figured they were on a mission to find male elves! LOL I was also thinking of those very intense japanes hotels.

    15. Wow, this is an audacious project. I would this, for sure, if I had enough room in my home. I'm thinking of starting with one bedroom. And then, who knows? Perhaps the winds change ...

Has anyone here ever seen dioramas 1/3 for sale somewhere?

    16. I think you first need to draw a house . to think about the materials of which the house will be . The walls should be stronger than the inner wall . it is necessary to think how to gain access to the inside of the house . it may be a removable roof , walls or removable
I prefer the open space , I make out a room

    17. I am thinking to start with a demountable diorama. Then, I will gain space.
I guess the walls have be made with wood or similar hard material. Maybe cardboard not be adequate for this scale.
I already started to make some furniture.
