1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying a Head when you just can't afford a whole doll

Oct 17, 2013

    1. Yeah I'll do that with my sixth and seventh, buy the head then buy the body for them :)

    2. I think this is a fantastic way for some collectors to build their collection. I currently have one floating head as he was only sold as such and I couldn't afford a body at the time anyway. And it's how I plan to order my final three dolls from DIM as well, as I'm not too keen on DIM's available bodies nor do I have the funds for full dolls all at once anymore. Their heads are what are most important to me, there will always be bodies from somewhere available, but if they're discontinued or whatnot then they will be much more difficult to track down or replace.

    3. Just buying a head is a good idea if you're not sure about the sculpt and if you're short on money. However, buying separately will cost more in the long run due to shipping and companies tend to charge you more if you buy separately.

    4. I was seriously considering this at one point. I thought it would be really weird, but I'm glad to see other people do/think about it too. xD

    5. I do this for especcially expensive dolls that have a body I don't really like XD I just look for the head and then for a matching body when I have the money ^^

    6. I'm actually considering the opposite-buying a 58cm girl body and waiting to get the head. I know it's more expensive to buy the body first, but I think if I get a body first I'll be able to practice sewing in that scale, (I've only had a mini and tinies) and maybe hve a better idea of my girl's style once she gets "put together"

    7. I did this. Not gonna lie, have been living with deep regret ever since. Fairyland dolls with a head are only $20 more than with the body alone. I have made a mistake. Now I will have 2 heads and one body. lol

    8. Yup! Did this for a limited head. Wouldn't do it for a non-limited doll, though.

    9. If the head was on sale and I knew what type of body I would eventually need to buy, then I would totally do it.

It would be no problem for me since it's not like I would lose interest in a doll just because I only had the head. ^^

    10. I have a situation like that as well. I have a head from Luts but I'm not sure if I want to spend the money needed to buy the body. That leaves me with a floating head until I can decide what to do. I only really worry about the discoloration that occurs when you leave your Bjd out into the open. I would hate to have the body and then see that the head is yellowing.

    11. I've done that before. Especially if I know the head is limited or something on the MP that might not stick around for long? Absolutely. You can always get the body later. The head is the most important bit!

    12. I did that because I saw a minifee Siean head at a reasonable price on the marketplace, and because I weren't sure how easy to come by they were, I decided to buy her, even though I'm not in the position to buy her a body yet. Yeah, I would have liked to buy a whole doll, but I didn't want to miss out on her and I'm glad I got her (even if she will remain a floating head for a while). I'm glad because I haven't seen one for that price since, and I thought that if I sent her off for a face-up she'd be incomplete anyway while I waited, (although I do have to admit I wasn't as excited as when I got my whole girl, but I know I will be when she's complete). :)

    13. I've actually just done this! I saw the dolly head that I've been wanting since I entered this hobby and reacted right away. It's also easier to make small payments, than to make one big expense in my opinion, it makes the load to bear a little bit lighter. o:

    14. I never thought I'd want to deal with floating heads but I just found a sculpt that I'd take just the head in a heartbeat.

    15. I prefer to save enough money for the doll or pay in layaway and get head and body for shipping, but i liked a head very much and got it, so now i am waiting for a body and crossfingers for it to match

    16. I did this for three BJDs of mine. The third one is still waiting for her body. I can't wait for her to be complete! :XD:

    17. That's what I plan on doing. Buying a head first and then doing the faceup and then when I have more money I'll buy the body

    18. Hmm...I only buy just heads if I have intentions on getting a different bosy for it. Otherwise, I like to purchase the whole doll. Especially for older limiteds.

    19. Bottom line - the HEAD is usually what makes the doll limited - so if you can get that you've got that much more time to come up w/the money for the rest of the doll. I realize that buying the complete doll will save $$$ but if all you've got is the price of the head, makes no sense to forego the limited doll you want to save a few dollars ~sic~

    20. I do this all the time. I dont even really like buying full dolls because of the guilt from spending so much money. Sometimes the body that comes with the doll is just too expensive or not all that good looking, in which case I just opt out for the head. But it's really no fun to have so many floating heads at once, you start to feel like they'll never get finished.
