1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying a new doll: with or without company faceup?

Oct 6, 2012

?
  1. I buy most of my dolls with the company faceup.

  2. I buy most of my dolls without the company faceup, to get a custom faceup done by an artist.

  3. I buy most of my dolls without the company faceup, to do the faceup myself.

  4. It really depends on the doll.

    1. I buy my dolls blank nowadays. They reach me earlier, I am not disappointed by a default face up gone awry and my poor painting skills can improve. And I can spend the money on something else.

    2. It depends on the company face up or my plans for the doll, but usually blank and my future planned ones would be blank too

    3. I prefer to get it with the faceup. It would cost the same or more to ship the had off to get it painted and returned. So if I like the faceup anyway, then why not?
Though, there is one doll I want to get that I love the faceup on it in the pictures but I don't think the company sends the dolls with the faceup...

    4. I used to buy most of my dolls with company faceups because I didn't know how to do it myself and it always felt like too much trouble to get the doll and send off the head immediately for a faceup and wait for another month or so... But now I just do my own faceups so I mostly order them blank. Unless it's a LE doll that comes with one as a default, like Volks dolls.

    5. I used to get my dolls with company face ups before but not anymore because I can do face ups now and I prefer to do them myself :)

    6. I got my first doll with a face-up, because I liked it in the pictures. I think I would get a company faceup from them again, just because I like the craftsmanship and aesthetic. Plus it was great for a first doll, because I got to play with her right out of the box. A good deal imo.

My second doll I ordered blank from another company and shipped off to an artist here on doa. She did an absolutely fabulous job. So I like both ways really.

I think for my next doll (from a third company lol), I may get a company faceup, just because they have offered free face-up events in the past (fingers crossed they have a another one soon), and I like the default quite a bit. And if it turns out I don't like it after a while, hey free right? xD

    7. I myself do actually prefer to buy the doll blank, so i then can be able to send the head off to a faceup artist. I feel that my doll is even more special to me with the character they are based off from my mind and writings, drawings and story etc. Even though i havnt build the doll, i created a character and that what i think makes it unique. ;)

    8. I love doing my own faceups!

    9. I buy all my dolls blank. At first I had the intention of send them out to faceup artists but I after giving painting my dolls a try I decided that I'd rather do it myself. Im not horrible at it and I think I can get better if I keep at it:)

    10. wow,it's so cool

    11. you can do that, keep up is the best way to get the key.:dance

    12. Although my first doll has a company face-up I want my second one to have a custom one. I really do prefer to have something unique that no one else has when it comes to dolls ^^

    13. right now it's 50/50 for me... cecilia has a faceup and yishi doesn't

    14. I have three with company faceups and one pre-made custom. I just don't have any faith in my ability to do proper faces even though I've been drawing and painting for years. Someday I'd like to buy one or two dirt-cheap heads and give it a go but in the meantime I pick dolls (or heads) that have faces and I just play with eyes and wigs.

    15. It depends on how much I like the pictures shown with the face-ups. If I love them, then I'll order the dolls with face-ups. But if I don't care for how they look, then I'll order them blank and attempt to do my own. One doll I ordered with a face-up I ended up re-doing it because I didn't like it, so that's always an option too.

    16. Definitively, buy with original face up. I ordered dolls sometimes without faceup because is too expensive sometimes, but from now on, only dolls with face up.
For me, these dolls are good to customize everything. eyes, wigs, outfits, tattoos, anytging but no face up.
The idea to use the face of my precious dolls like a board or a paper to 'play' to paint and remove, paint and remove the face up, make me feel like I play too much and use them too much like a 'toy'. Thats me, but Im very careful person with my own things... thats the same for everything I collect... I literally use gloves sometimes!

    17. Being a newbie, with my first doll I ordered her with a faceup. It's more that I'm horrendously impatient and I don't want to have a blank doll arrive to me after months of waiting, only to send her off and wait another few weeks/a month to finally use her! I figured if I decide she needs a new face eventually, she can have her factory faceup removed, no harm done:)

    18. As a person relatively unexperienced in this hobby, it would be rather depressing having just my blank doll. When you have never done a faceup before you cant just jump in and do one right away (or atleast thats what it feels like). Luckily I have one other doll that came with a company face up. I say, if anyone is getting their very first doll, get one with a face up! It will help to observe the artistry that goes into it up close and you can always wipe it and do your own once you are good and ready.
