1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying a new doll: with or without company faceup?

Oct 6, 2012

?
  1. I buy most of my dolls with the company faceup.

  2. I buy most of my dolls without the company faceup, to get a custom faceup done by an artist.

  3. I buy most of my dolls without the company faceup, to do the faceup myself.

    1. I think that it really depends on the doll for me because some dolls look amazing in their company faceup but then others look like they are not "up to standard" with the faceup. I try looking at the doll's blank head then at their company makeup to see if I like it or not, otherwise if I don't like the companies work I would order it blank and just find a faceup artist within the community to help me out.

    2. i am in the depends list:) i like to see the blank head and see what the company comes up with. some i like with and some i like with out. I sometimes get ideas about how i want to paint them.

    3. Well when i first started i got them with their default faceups :) but after finding out you can get their faceups custom, i decided to get them blank and send them with a good friend that lives near me to do my dolls faceups :)

    4. I don't trust myself to do face-ups, so I get the default ones. I hope to have a custom face-up done for me soon, but until then it's default ones for me.

    5. I have never gotten or wanted to get a company faceup before. Well, no, that's not true, I recently ordered an 'in stock' doll that comes with faceup + gift head, but I'll probably sell the company one and do my own faceup on the extra head. I don't really like the idea of company faceups, because for me, these dolls are all about customization. I want to customize them as much as I can so they are mine and only mine. I'd love to send a head to an artist for a custom faceup, but it ends up costing so much that I can never justify it.

    6. I want to order all my doll with company faceup but many time I can't because their company faceup don't suit character at all.

      I have 2 dolls got a company faceup and 4 dolls got custom faceup.

    7. I get mine with the company faceup, but that's because I'm awful at doing faceups on my own and don't have anyone living close enough to do it for me. XD That and I don't trust the postal service. >>; Getting the dolls in is one thing. The companies I order from are usually really good about packing the dolls so there's no chance of ruin, but sending the doll out for a faceup is a different thing. >>;

    8. I usually buy them without a face-up, unless there is no other choice (like with Volks limiteds). All my dolls are eventually send off to a face-up artist I admire, so I'd rather save the money for that trip, than to invest time and dollars into something that's going to be wiped off soon after the doll's arrival.

      The only doll that was the exception is my IH Kamau. I loved the default face-up and it's absolutely perfect for him (for now).

    9. The first dolls I bought with a make-up. Now I order them without a make-up and I draw it by myself.

    10. I don't want to spend more than 200 bucks on a doll... (but I know I will) so if the doll is less than 200 and I like the company face-up, I'll probably go for the company face up. But for a more expensive doll... I'll just go with the blank face option to save money. :/

    11. it depends on a lot of things, the biggest being 'how much am I willing to spend?' the other being, 'do I like the company face up enough to buy it?' with my two current dolls, I did not buy either of them with the company face up because i didn't like it, but the next doll I have in mind, i think I will buy the company's faceup.

    12. Some companies have good faceups, and others have rubbish ones. I have about half and half in my collection, and I practice on the blank heads because nothing's final with a little brush cleaner.

    13. I only have one doll with a company faceup. It didn't suit my vision for her,so I'm going to give her a makeover soon. It was great having the lower lashes and eyebrows done though,lol.

    14. I think company face up is good enough. I can see it before I buy it. I don't trust a face up artists. They always do in their own style.

    15. I only have one doll and a face up came with it. The face up was more mature than I wanted it to be so I redid it xP

    16. All my dolls have arrived with a company faceup. I've never done one before and I'd be nervous to try (which is ironic since I'm currently making a living at being a freelance artists). I don't have the right materials to do faceups either and it wouldn't be worth the cost in getting supplies for just the few I'd probably do. ^^;

    17. Considering I have terrible artistic skills and due to a bad experience with a customizer several years ago (although, thankfully, it was a cheaper doll), I really only buy dolls with the company face-up. I can't really envision a face-up from a blank mold so I don't know if I'd ever get a custom of a doll (unless I bought one someone else made or something). For me, liking the face-up is a large part of if I get the doll or not in the first place.

    18. My dolls are constantly changing, just as my preferences tend to, and so do their face-ups. This is why I buy them blank whenever I can. I may not be a great face-up artist, but I enjoy giving my girls their new faces. Spending money each time I grow bored of a face-up would be pointless, plus painting my dolls helps me bond with them (as I don't often have time to play with them anyway).

    19. I am a fullset buyer, so naturally most of my dolls are with company faceup. But I do send dolls to make-upers in cases if companies don't provide this service (like minimee) or if I bought a blank head off hands.

    20. I prefer blank dolls cause I didn't see some good company faceup. And I like to do make-up, so this is a profit))
