1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. In general I prefer being able to order directly from a company, specifying what sort of faceup I want and knowing that a doll doesn't have any undisclosed damage, yellowing etc before it comes to you. That said, however, I bought my Yo-Tenshi second-hand and I absolutely adore her - I've had no problems at all bonding with her, and I think of her as much 'mine' as any of my other guys I ordered direct from companies. I sometimes wish I could see pictures of her when she was with her former owner just out of curiosity, but unfortunately he seems to have deleted them all so that's impossible. Other than that, however, I rarely ever think of her as having belonged to someone else - she truly is mine now, a hundred percent ^___^

    2. I'd like new but if there was one that was in good condition of one I wanted and there was a significant price difference but seconhand I'd go for her

    3. Both sides have their ups and downs. I'd say that buying new from the company is the best bet for quality, because the doll is brand new (of course) and there's no scratches or faults. Or if there IS scratches or faults from the casting process or whatever, then you can always return the doll. You can also be assured that your doll WILL arrive, and there will be no dodgy seller issues.

Buying a pre-owned doll is great because you don't have to wait! :) The problem is, you can never be sure if you'll ever actually get your doll. You just have to trust that the the seller is trustworthy! Another up-side about a pre-owned doll is that a seller will often include clothes, so you don't have to worry about a naked doll. Also, the damage (scratches, etc) is usually minimal due to people being so careful with their dolls. If there IS something, then you'll know what it is ahead of time, as the seller will let you know. A good thing about pre-owned dolls is that the seller will go far into detail, and give you a perfect image of what the doll should be like when you recieve it. This way you can better weigh your decisions. Buying dolls second-hand is usually a little less pricey than brand-new dolls, too.

Overall I'd have to say that I like buying a pre-owned doll better. Lune was bought second-hand, and I had a great experience. :)

    4. Well, my problem is, is that I won't have enough money from my summer job to get my doll directly from the site. So, I'm buying his head second-hand, and buying his wig and eyes from the company.

CP Harang is a limited, but, he's so unloved that it's almost been a year and he's not sold out. 200 copies in the world, and I think there's only about 20 out...that I know of...

    5. I purchased my girl pre-owned simply becuase the company does not make the original sculpt anymore.

    6. Which do you prefer..pristine fresh from the company dolls or do you prefer to buy on the secondary market?
Myself id much prefer previously owned..although sometimes there could be difficulties in taking away its previous "life" id still rather the thought..of my BJDs having "lived" before.

    7. Previes are the best! :kitty2 Though company new dolls are nicer in the way that their new and all, I like having pre-owned dolls cause they don't squeak like new ones can, they don't have that really resiny smell and they can sometimes come with nice clothes and unique face-ups and stuff. Most of my little ones are previes and I'd rather have more like that in the future! =^_^=

    8. either for me..it depends on the doll...
      I have some of both..

    9. I like both! Two of my dolls and both my floating heads I bought new, and that was much fun, but I bought Gabriel (my latest) from Lethanon here on the forums and it was so easy and painless and she sent so many nice things with him - plus I just felt good giving him a home.

Now I have to avoid the doll marketplaces entirely, because I want to buy every doll I see up there... D:

    10. Oh, when the Luv strikes, it doesn't matter where they live at the time! :)

    11. i don't know, i never had a previously loved doll, though i wouldn't mind buying one ^^

Both my boys are fresh, newly made. Simply because i 1)didn't know there was a marketplace the first time and 2)there was an El but not NS for sale...

So it depends when and what i'm ordering. I don't mind getting a limited or not from the marketplace if someone was selling the doll i want at the time i was going to order. I always check the marketplace before the company.

    12. I've never bought a previously owned doll, and honestly, the thought's never really crossed my mind.
I wouldn't mind owning a previously owned doll.. I just suppose when I'm able to get a doll I automatically think "yay! brand new!" and go straight to a company website. I love having a new doll, free to make up my own character for it. I'd be afraid if I got a previously owned doll that I would want to give it a completely new personality.. and that it wouldn't work.

    13. I got my Unidoll Jace Kazimir, because I fell in love with the faceup SDink had done on him it made him more special in my eyes. He felt like a new doll anyways since he did not have any flaws.

    14. I would love to get a previously owned doll in that I feel it really would be like giving them a new home, but on the other hand... the idea of a fresh new one just waiting for a personality like a blank canvas... I like that feeling.

I would definitely buy a limited, say, if I were to find it second hand on the marketplace. But if it were one that was still being sold, brand new on the company website... there would have to be a really good reason for me not to just buy it brand new, like a great price, or a special sale, or some kind of extenuating circumstances that told me I just had to buy that one, not just one of that model.

    15. I don't have preferance for either over another so long as a pre-loved doll was well taken care of. My first boy who I have with me now was adopted directly from the company, and I think that's really wonderful, as he is my first BJD, so I got to have that whole experience, getting him brand new. However, my second boy who I am adopting currently is being sold to me by someone from here on DoA. I most certainly won't love him any less, and it makes me really happy since his old owner wanted him to go to someone who would care for him and that's exactly what's happening. If he's not the right doll for one person, at least now he won't be sitting around unplayed with.

So they both have their perks, and neither is better or worse than another for me. <3

    16. I don't really mind about their "blankness" when they come. I don't mind if they were personally casted for me or ready made. Fortunately all my dolls so far comes with a comfortable degree of blankness. Of course, some do argue "I'd like to be like this instead, please." But none of my second hands had retained their old personality so far^^;

I only have 2 first hand dolls, and one was off the company on ebay so he was "ready made"

the only one who was personally casted for me was my first doll, Jade. Everyone else was 2nd hand or "ready made". I don't think I can go back to waiting 5 weeks anymore >_> So I mostly hound the marketplace now ^_^

    17. I have both.Sometimes they're cheaper brand new from the company than second hand. Sometimes they're just sold out or a really great deal. My Chiwoo, Skye, was only $500 on the marketplace with a wig and eyes and faceup. A blank one on Luts is like $550! And no wig there or faceup.

    18. Personally, I buy new, unless it's from someone I know IRL.
There's just too many problems with undisclosed damages/mods recently, that I don't feel safe buying a doll I haven't seen IRL before, from someone I don't know.

    19. Previes are definitely better. Mostly because they're cheaper. Most owners take good care of their dolls, so used ones are usually like new :)
