1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. My Miharu comes from his company (Blue Fairy) directly. But buying pre-owned dolls would be my best choice if him/her is the one I really want and I can't find him/her anywhere else! ^^

    2. I've only ordered new before, so I put that down... I do think it's really nice because you get a brand new doll that's all your and has only ever been yours.

That said, I really like the idea of adopting a doll that's been someplace else and has all kinds of stories to tell-- and I most certainly will buy second-hand dolls in the future. It's all about timing with dolls I love being sold and me actually having the money at the time. XD

It's the same way I feel about books: New books are awesome, new and untouched like fresh snow, and there's nothing like being the first one to crack open a brand new volume... but used books are so great, too-- they have lots of character and more stories to tell than just the ones written inside. :aheartbea

    3. Depends on the person. Some second hand owners are wonderful to work with and some people are just a nightmare. As long as the quality of the doll is good and it was cared for I don't see a problem though I'll admit there is nothing like ordering a doll from the company and getting to [gently] rip the box open in excitement.

    4. I enjoy both^^
For me, it really depends on the doll.
I know that currently, all of the dollies besides two that I'm waiting for are pre-loved
I think it gives them more of a story, and its also good to know that they are going to a permanent home where they will be loved :)
Its just something about the dolls having a past, that I so adore.
But I know that I LOVE ordering new, too. Knowing that besides the company, nobody has ever laid eyes on her but me.
That is special. I'm the first to see her, the first to hold her, and the first to "create" her(by giving her a name, story, etc)
So, to answer the question and prevent weirding people out with my sentimental junk, I like both methods :)

    5. Humm... I dunno, I'd prefer new *even though its expensive as heck* because It would feel strange to alter the personality and appearance of a doll that already had an established personality beforehand with their previous owners. I'd feel bad D= as if i'm brainwashing the poor individual XD.
      Also quality isn't guaranteed D= .

if someone does sell me a second handed doll i'd like to take thorough investigation of the quality, reasons why they're up for sale and how long they've had it D=.

    6. I've bough one of each type so far and I got the pre-owned one from a friend of mine who got him and then didn't want him. o-o

My dolls are a DZ Mo-2 fullset (which is still on the way) and a RS An which I didn't plan on, but my friend said she was thinking of getting rid of him, and all I could think of was that ~I~ wanted him. Since it was my friend and I know the care she takes for her dolls I wasn't worried about buying pre-owned. It would be trying to buy a previously owned doll from someone I don't know that would make me nervous.

The only worry I have with my DZ Mo is the time it will take before I get him home. XD

    7. I have yet another pre-owned doll coming to my house! Except for the body I'm waiting for, that's all-pre-owned here. All of mine have changed their personalities from the characters they were with their other owners, but that's OK, they're fitting right in here. If I was ever to sell any of mine I'd expect them to become new characters with their new owners, probably.

I have only had good experiences buying pre-owned so far, and really like not having to wait forever for them to arrive. It will be fun to get one new from the company, but I know the wait for them will be annoying!

    8. My first doll, my boy, is third hand at least. I love him dearly, though, and wouldn't trade him for anything. I've only just ordered my first new dolls, a little over a week ago, but I know I'll love them as much as I love him, and it IS exciting knowing that I'm getting two dolls that no one else will have owned before, to start from scratch in making them their characters, with no face-ups to wipe or anything. My next few will all likely be bought new, as I save up for them unless I come across the exact dolls second hand when I can afford them. The only other doll I'm looking for, that I know I'll need to get second hand, is a 'chocolate' or 'dark tan' bobobie Sprite girl on a mature body. I'm not likely to find her...but...*shrugs* If I ever do, I'll be doing everything I can to get her. ^-^

So really, I can go either way. Second hand is good for it's own reasons, and new is good too, also for it's own reasons.

    9. I have bought 2 dolls new from an authorized reseller, 1 new from ebay reseller, and one used here on doa forums. I prefer to buy new from a reseller like junkyspot for example which is where 2 of my dolls came from, but sometimes it's nice to save some money. I got a good deal on my previously owned obitsu and had a positive experience dealing with the seller. I'm currently waiting for a doll from an ebay seller, it's new, not pre-owned but I am having anxiety because seller is not responding to any of my questions or emails and it has been almost a week. It was pretty cheap as far as bjd go but now I am regretting not spending a lil more to buy from a more trustworthy source.

      The different advantages/disadvantages:

      Advantages

      New from company:
1.) Don't have to worry about bad sellers that may try to scam you
2.) Have brand new mint doll, don't have to worry about stains from clothes/wigs or scratches or loose stringing.

      New from reseller
1.) Shorter wait time if you find a seller in your own country.
2.) Save alot on shipping also this way.

      Used from a previous owner
1.) Save alot of money sometimes on price of doll
2.) Sometimes owners are throwing in random gifts like wigs/clothes/faceups
3.) The same points as reseller (shipping and wait time)

      Disadvantages

      New from company:
1.) Must wait one month to receive doll
2.) Often pay more money than for a used doll
3.) Sometimes there have been language barriers and communication problems with some companies in the past.

      New from Reseller
1.) Must beware bad sellers that will try to scam you (steal money, sell counterfit doll, etc)
2.) May pay more money on sites like ebay if many people are bidding on same mold.

      Used from Previous owner:
1.) Same point as reseller (scams, counterfits, etc)
2.) Doll may be dammaged or not as described fully
3.) Doll may not come with original packing or ID cards (which some people such as myself like to keep)
4.) Doll may have faceup that is using questionable material and may stain doll when you go to remove it.

    10. I like the conveiniance of ordering from companies...that and my more recent purchases are the recent soom md's, which ofcourse have no pre-owned market yet.

But I won't mind using the second-hand market when I eventually decide to pick up the "grail" dolls I missed out on.

    11. I have mixed feelings. I've heard so much about scammers, I would only buy second hand from someone who had A LOT of positive feedback! It's a shame that "bad apples" ruin things, I would prefer to buy from individual both dolls and accessories.

    12. I don't mind to buy second-hand dolls if they attract me even they have a little bit flaw and if the doll still in productionbut very expensive, buy the second-hand is a good choice (same to limit doll) but if the doll still in production and not too expensive so that, I prefer a brand new doll from the company.

    13. I have a mix of pre-owned and new dolls. Often times you can get better prices, and your doll gets to you MUCH faster when you adopt. I actually prefer to adopt dolls; you know they've been someplace loved and cherished, but perhaps been starved for attention... it's nice knowing you can give that to them!

However, there are some dolls that you just want, as soon as they come out, or ones you can't find on the marketplace. Then I wouldn't have (and haven't had) a problem buying new.

    14. I have both brand new and 2nd hand dolls and for the moment *touch wood* I've never had any trouble with a company or buying 2nd hand, I find with the 2nd hand ones that once payed for they arrive a lot faster to my house than the company bought ones.

    15. Most of my dolls are from the company, except my Breakaway, who I love~

      I'll probably end up buying second hand more often. :}

    16. I'd planned on buying the new Souldoll Katie for months, but then I discovered Souldoll Tiffee. I fell in love with this mold, but it is no longer made my Souldoll. Heavily dissapointed, I started to search for an old model. I found two here on DoA. One had modded ears which were cute, but I really liked the sort-of big ears on the original sculpt. The other I came really close to buying, but decided that I wanted my first doll to be new.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a doll that was second hand if the model was no longer in style and I liked it enough. My first doll is really the only exception.

    17. I haven't purchased my first doll yet, but with the prices as such ~ I don't mind buying a pre-owned doll.

Or course I'd love a new Fennic Fox BJD but I don't mind. <3

I think of it like adopting it.

    18. As for me, 3 of my 4 dolls are second handed. The only reason I bought my puki directly from the compagny is because I couldn't find it elsewhere. I find it easier to by my dolls from previous owners: less delay, possibility of layaway....and no customs! And I find the private picture more accurate that the company's:|

    19. My BJDs are half and half -- the pre-owned ones are just as lovely as the new ones! I've had really good experiences buying pre-owned dolls; I think you just have to make sure to ask the seller about anything that might be important to you and decide whether or not you want to buy that doll based on the answers s/he gives.
I usually get new face ups done on my pre-owned dolls and even get the ones on my brand new dolls enhanced so that by the time they come to be on display they really are "mine"!

    20. I selected new in the poll, but in all actually, I like both.

Firstly, whether or not I choose to buy new depends greatly on the location of the dealer - I'm much more likely to purchase new from a North American dealer than one from say, Korea, just because the latter often comes with higher shipping prices and longer wait times.

But I usually ALWAYS check the MP here first if there's a doll I'm after - typically if a doll is in good condition and either blank, company faceup-ed, or painted by a really good artist, I'll go for it - and save money by buying a "pre-owned" doll.

So basically unless the doll is filthy or badly damaged or has a hideous faceup, to me it's the same as buying it new.

I also love the "past lives" sort of thing that goes along with having a previously owned doll - I imagine where it's been, how far it's traveled, who it was - it's like they have a whole story behind them already. And as far as I'm concerned, all dolls deserve to be cherished, and if I can give that to a doll who needs it, that makes me happy. :)
