1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Honestly the only difference for me is the price. If I can split a whole doll with someone and sell off all of the goodies that come with it and it be cheaper than buying a pre-loved one, then I'm going to get the new one. If it's going to save me 50$ and the dollis still in great condition, I'll go for the pre-loved one.

    2. Pre-owned dolls are great for short wait times and sometimes spending a bit less money. =) So far I bought two bodies and one full doll pre-owned.

    3. I have two dolls that are pre-owned. In both of them I love the doll and it also helped a little when the doll was a teeny bit cheaper than from the BJD shops. And I didn't have to wait for so long time. ^^

      I like buying from shops too but if I'll find some dolls that I like, I'll definitely want to adopt more from marketplace. ^-^

      Oh yeah, and I voted for buying from shops, becouse most of my dolls are from shops. ^-^

    4. I think most people would prefer to buy from the company if the option is there. It's just common sense that the doll from the company would be in better condition.

      this being said, I dont have any qualms about buying second hand if the doll is not available from the company. Several of my dolls are second hand, and only one did I have a bad experience with. (ie the doll didn't come with what was agreed upon, had some slight damage... etc...)
      most of my dolls are from the company though... I really try to get the doll when it first comes out if I really want it. I hate paying aftermarket costs. ;P

    5. I like getting dolls new, from the company... but I don't mind adopting orphans either, especially not when it comes to an individual doll whose face-up I happen to like (Kessari, Tsung-Li, D), or a doll whose sculpt is out of production and can't be obtained directly from the company (Like my Elf Shiwoos, Vampire Elf El, or Breakaways).

      Over-all, the Turtle House crew is about half and half. ^_^

    6. I'll buy a doll secondhand if it's a limited that's not for sale anymore, or if the particular doll has a faceup I really like. ^^

    7. It is easier to get it company direct but there are so many dolls that need to be adopted...;_;
      Sometimes you can find what you want second hand.

    8. for me it depends, with all the talk about snowskin dolls yellowing, I would prefer one straight from the company. My favorite doll was pre owned, that the only way that you can get some limiteds. plus I only had to wait one week to get her instead of waiting for months like the others.

    9. Me too. It's probably due to the large amount of time I spent at animal shelters as a child. "Don't make more. There aren't enough homes for the ones that are already here!" I feel the same way about children. :roll:

      There are very few dolls old enough yet to have serious condition issues. If I can save some petroleum by buying a slightly used doll, so much the better.

    10. I guess it depends. My first doll had to be new which was my sd13 Mimi. My second I wanted an oldskin sd10 so she had to be used which I didnt mind.
      My luts I got new since the prices of him used were not that different.
      In my mind I think 'well why not spend a little more to get them new"

      I guess some dolls can be new and some can be used. It all depends. I am saving for an Isao and a Myu next and I know I can get Myu new and Isao used since he is not sold inthe stores.....

    11. Hrm, I think it depends for me? I'd buy pre-owned only if the doll was in a condition I'm happy with, and buying from an individual cuts down the 'processing' time that we're all so sick of. Also, some dolls are discontinued or hard to find from doll companies, so if I were looking to buy one of those dolls, I'll definitely have to look for pre-owned ones.

      I'll buy from doll companies just because the dolls would be new; and I'd prefer to be the first owner of a resin kid. And it may be warped thinking, but somehow, I put more faith in an established business? Although I've heard some shocking stories of lousy customer service, etc. from doll companies. And they're less likely to scam me! :D

    12. I don't have problems with pre-owned dolls if they are fine, but I prefer new ones. -Simply for the reason that some people treats their dolls more careful than others, or vice versa, so I don't have any pre-owned doll.
      But as I said, I don't have a problem with them ^-^

    13. I'd prefer to buy new rather than pre-owned. From what I've seen, the prices for pre-owned dolls aren't lower than new, and there is a lot more risk involved. Buying new is nice because if there is a problem with the doll, the company will usually rectify the situation, since they want to maintain a good reputation.

      I wouldn't mind buying doll clothes and accessories secondhand, however.

    14. For me, I think I will always get my doll directly from the company. I really want my home is his first home and want to treat him as a family member. But it is OK to pass him to a makeup artist for makeup.

    15. Buying pre-owned would be fine if the owner takes good care of the doll and keeps her in mint condition. What I wouldn't want is bringing home a doll with undisclosed problems, such as discoloration or damaged parts. At least when bought new, even if there's a defect, doll companies would be able to replace immediately and usually without charge. There's certain expectation of perfection in the new dolls and they hardly ever disappoint, down to the packaging. Then, there's always the thrill of receiving a newly-released doll. The opening of such new doll feels like true adoption or initiation of some kind. Perhaps the extra money spent to get a doll brand new is therefore symbolic of a new birth.

    16. A retired, or sold-out LE, doll I'll get second-hand (my Juri 05 head, for instance). Overall I want that whiff of toxic resin fumes to greet me when I open the box, but in general I have nothing against buying a second-hand doll, since I'll probably change everything about them anyway. If someone wanted a full-set with no changes, then I'd be wary of pre-owned just because of damage that could occur to the outfit or wig.

    17. Who can resist the face of a sad Limho?
      I can't!
      I saw Kayes post and I think I said 'OMG SOLD' out loud.
      Not much thinking or planning there. He was on my wishlist, better now than much later ^^;;

      When I buy a doll, it's because I look at it and can't stop looking at it. If that doll happens to be up for adoption, so be it. Still pretty, still needs a hug or seven. Still needs a home :3

      Having sold a doll I loved muchly seems to have helped me in adopting another one. I feel sorry for them ;~;

    18. I don't mind if my doll is 2nd hand or not. But of cos, if I can choose, I prefer new from the company. However, -.- my finanical status does not support me.

    19. I prefer to get a new doll, so I can customize her/he at my choice.
      If I wanted a doll that is impossible to find in a shop, I would buy a second-hand one, but if I can choose, I prefer a new one :sweat

    20. I'd adopt if one really called out to me. :)
