1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. There's not either option?

    2. Totally agree......I think it really depends.
I am lucky enough to have all my three Limited dolls at the original price and first hand.
If I happen to like a limited doll after he.she has been release and was out of market, then I will think about the second hand, but has to be in good condition.
It is hard to get a doll if he/she is sold out almost at the moment of release.

    3. Both of mine are second hand, and both came from very nice sellers. I don't have a strong preference for new or used though as long as I love the doll.

    4. four of my five dolls are bought from the company; Mitsuki's head was purchased pre-owned, and her body from Angel Region. i also used to have a Souldoll Metel purchased pre-owned. i clicked "from the company" but i have to say there are many dolls in Marketplace that i'd love to have, so maybe there should have been a third option...

    5. New. Unless I saw it in person I would be so afraid to buy a preowned doll. That it would have damage/not be what I expected, etc. Also, I'm kinda a geek. I like the idea that the doll is made 'just for me' by the dollmaker from the time I order it.

    6. ADDING THIS 8D : HMM. Well, I liked the fact that when I bought Keeny, I didn't have to wait the usual two months. He was almost brand new, and still had his new resin smell. I liked being able to PM the seller and ask things about the exact doll, not just the mold in general.

I loved the feeling of adopting him, it was really sweet opening that box and he already had this homely feel to him. Making him a boy was kind of cute too, because he was previously living out as a girl XD

Honestly, I prefer buying dolls preloved... if I see them and can't stop thinking about them X3
If I have a character planned for the doll, I need to buy them from the company. I need to establish a whole new character for a doll. I feel like I'm almost intruding otherwise!

    7. I'm mixed, I perffer to get my dolls new since there brand new and not played with. Almost all of my dolls were new I did buy my Miko off ebay but he was New in his box. (And not at a marked up price)
I've noticed that when I bought doll heads from the marketplace I end up selling them. But I just adopted Max my MF Shiwoo from someone in the marketplace and I'm happy with him. ^^

    8. So far I have only done transactions for preloved dolls, and I really haven't been upset. Right now I am getting a Twing-key hybrid on layaway and she's coming exactly that way I wanted with a serendipity freyja body instead of that chubby DoC body that I'm not particularly interested in for Isold. I also have a head that I bought on the marketplace but that was because it was the only way to get her (modded with a special faceup). However, the next 'full doll' I buy will be new (CP Soony). So while I love the idea of giving a sweetie a new home, I also look forward to purchasing a new doll. If I see them on the marketplace and I fall in love, I'll probably reach for that one. Otherwise I think I'll just go with new (customs fees be dammed). mmmmm, rambly!

    9. I have only purchased new ones. I think that is due to the fact that I feel a company is backing them up if something is wrong. However, I did purchase a Rainy girl body from someone on DoA and it was blushed and wired just beautifully.

I probably would be willing to purchase a pre-owned doll if I was familiar with the seller and/or if I had very good references for the seller. These dolls are just too expensive to have to worry about the sale and thus, about the seller.

    10. Despite I've voted for buying a new doll from company, my three first dears was bought by auction, because, they was more cheap than a bjd bought in its company and oversome, they came with extra wigs, eyes, clothes,... Reonti Sen (kurenai) came with a lot of japanese textil retails, a yukata and ribbons. Impossible leave her go along my life XDDDD

With Aruku and Piyo-Piyo purchases, my girlfriend assembled them and she makes her face-up.

I think it's grateful a new bjd purchase because you don't have to clear its past.... but if I could get a Tsukasa konoe from an auction with extra and cheaper, I'll take him inmediatelly XDDDDD

    11. I got my AR Fair Diana second hand from one of my friends, so I could sit with her for some time and see and feel her before I decided weather or not to buy her. I really liked that because you can't always judge how the dolls will look irl. But then, I've got a VDES head from another doll enthusiast in Denmark and she had got 2 small nicks in her lips. Nothing you can see when she's got her face-up on, but still. I think there are advantages and disadvantages at both I think...

    12. I vote new from the company.
Though, with some dolls, you can't buy them immediatly from the company, like Schoolheads, so they're an exception. But if it is possible, than I rather buy the doll immediatly from the company.

    13. I think the both it´s ok :)

But for now only I buying a doll from the company :sweat

    14. Seems a lot of people agree buying from the company is safer and ensures quality. Its like ebay.. I don't trust a lot of whats on there most of the time since I've been screwed over (on non-doll oriented things) before, though pre-owned ones do offer the possibility of obtaining a one-of-a-king customization. Like, I know I think I'd like a full theme doll from a pre-owned source if it wasn't "used", and more "designed". If that makes any sense :p

    15. I would have no problem buying a doll second hand.. although both of mine were bought new from their companies. For me I normally save up for a particular doll then when I have the money I want to buy them right away  If I could find the doll second hand for a good price or with good extras I would be it for sure. But if not (more likely not) I'll just buy new from the company :)

    16. I'm up to 10 dolls now, and only 3 of them were bought new from their companies. There's something satisfying about buying a doll from another user and making him or her your own. :3

    17. No preference-- I like both! (I see there's no 'both' option in the Poll. ^^) I think I own about half-and-half new & used, right now. It depends on the particular doll I'm seeking, their availability, etc. I tend to fall in love with LEs, so I will take them any way I can get them. :)

But given the choice between a fullset of the same doll, with the same attributes & same package, for the same price, available both in the store AND secondhand? Probably I will give my money directly to the company, & buy it new. I'm all about supporting the after-market... but if there's no real reason to buy it used, then I'd buy new. Once you get them home, you customize it to your own liking anyway, so the only reason to choose Used over New is if I'd save any money.

(It is also true that buying a doll new from the company is NOT a guarantee against damage/wear... sometimes quality-assurance can slip through the cracks. But when you buy it new, you usually have some recourse to get the problem fixed; a secondhand deal is usually "as-is".)

    18. My first BJD will be bought from the manufacturer...there isn't much choice in it! :sweat

However, if there was a doll I'd seen around and adored went up for sale, I'd do everything in my power to get the money together for it. I don't really have any problem with buying dolls from previous owners, so long as I can see a few good shots of the doll first :)
After all, it's good for both buyer and seller to know the doll's going to a loving home, rather than staying with someone who might not be able to give the doll the same love someone else can~

    19. I'd prefer buying a new doll. I like the thought of knowing the doll is made specially for me :)

    20. My dolls are a mix of brand new and second hand and it doesn't matter to me as long as the seller is trustworthy, treats your dolls with care when packaging, and takes the time to answer any questions you may have about them.
