1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying Dolls Secondhand

Apr 20, 2016

    1. Thanks so much for your opinions, everyone! I'll probably put her up in the Marketplace soon. :)

    2. It depends on what I had in mind for the doll. Currently, my collection is complete, but I could see myself buying another one if I fell in love with it's faceup/tattoos.

    3. There are some people who sell their doll with the intent that the new owner keep the personality they designated for the doll. I, personally, think this is silly and unless you already know of someone who will buy the doll and keep the original character intact, you limit the audience that will be interested. However, I would not have a problem buying a doll like this if I approved of the character. I also wouldn't mind buying a blank doll, but that's just me.

    4. I think I'd prefer buying a blank doll, although I wouldn't mind if a doll already had a faceup. I don't think it would make that much of a difference, to be honest.

    5. I find it interesting how many people here prefer blank dolls, because I feel like when I'm selling a doll it tends to go more quickly if it has a faceup at least already. I always assumed the less work it looked like it would take to finish the doll, the more likely it would be to sell, but maybe that was totally off base.

I used to really want a doll to have a faceup when I bought it becuase I didn't do faceups and the amount of time and effort and money it took to send every new doll off to a customizer made it likely that a blank doll would sitting around for a while looking sad and unfinished, but now that I do paint whatever I buy is just going to be wiped and redone to my specifications, so I don't mind either way. I wouldn't avoid a doll with a faceup, I just wouldn't pay more for it.

    6. When I buy 2nd hand a face-up and blushing has nothing to do with whether I want the doll. It's the sculpt I'm after for a particular character. It can be nice to have a face-up so the dolls isn't sitting there blank but it's not a must have as I usually send the doll out for a custom face-up. I don't feel bad about having the doll wiped either as I am buying him to be a certain character of mine and chances are, that character doesn't work with the current face-up. I rarely buy a doll with a company face-up either for the same reason. I wouldn't pay more for blushing as that's not important to me and only 3 of my dolls (out of 37) have blushing. One was done as part of a limited full set and the other 2 have extensive markings over their bodies so blushing/mani/pedi were required to complete the look.

However, I currently have 2 dolls that I bought 2nd hand that have face-ups that I've kept and one of them has some extensive tattoos that actually tipped the scales for me to buy him. The one with the tatts may get his face-up redone in the future but the other will keep his face-up as it's a company default, the company he's from vanished years ago (Unidoll) and the face-up is really nice and suits the character perfectly.

    7. I prefer a doll with faceup/bodyblush, but it all depends on the artist. I don't have skills doing it myself. But for me it's about the appearance, how she looks, and then I can proceed dressing her up in all kinds of outfits. Cause the outfits is like the frame on a painting, it makes the piece of art complete, and a sight for my admiration <3

    8. I'm not great at the face ups, so I prefer a doll that already has one. That being said, if it's a face up that I don't care for or is poorly done, I'd prefer blank. I figure if I take the face up off and it's stained, I'm out if luck. Seller probably didn't know. If they are selling a blank one, they'll know and disclose.

      * I wouldn't ask a seller to take a face up off, though.

    9. I would definitely prefer one with a face up/blushing.. Being a newbie to the whole bjd stuff, I neither have the skills, nor products to do a face up on my own..
