    1. I don't think is anything wrong with it. I personally want to make my dolls look different from everyone elses, but package dolls are very pretty.

    2. If I had the money I would buy a full set. I've seen some dolls that I wouldn't change a thing to, they were so perfect. But I've seen others that have a great sculpt but I don't like the company face up at all and I would want to do that myself. I'm terribly impatient with sewing and would buy ready made clothes without hesitation.

    3. I don't see the point of buying fullsets only-I mean, what if the only reason you really like the doll is because of the way they're put together on the site for the fullset? If you're not going to keep them ONLY in that outfit, then why not just order a blank doll with a faceup (to make sure it's the doll you like, not their wig/shoes/whatever), and order an outfit and wig from the site?

    4. I don't buy full sets because... I just don't like buying dolls without months of thought as to whether I truly want it or not (...and also taking the months to set the money aside as doll money. Yeah. I get attached to my money). Because most full sets come as sort of a limited-edition/time constraint thing, I generally don't even look at the full sets.

One that really really tempted me was Chrom (No one said he had to be a wolf!), but... Oh well. Maybe I'll still get him eventually.

I also like to put together my own characters, and obviously, full sets rarely fit my characters fully (One came awfully close, but I already had a doll of that character, so...). So I'd rather piece them together.

But if others don't buy dolls for characters but purely for enjoyment/looking at (or making characters up afterwards), full-sets may be the easier way to go.

    5. My DZ Yage full set arrived today. She makes doll #30! And she is just what i wanted. I do customize my own dolls from time to time but not very often. I feel like you do. A full set will sell a doll to me quicker then a blank one will.

    6. Is it "less personal"? Yes, I think it is. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with it! If you like the doll how it is, buy it that way. My first was a fullset, and still wears the pants and vest from the fullset. I bought him partly because he'd come with clothes and hair, and partly because I thought part of the outfit suited his character, and the hair that came with him was perfect for another of my characters.

I personally haven't seen a fullset that was perfect for one of my characters, but I've seen some that are close. If I did see one that was perfect I'd consider buying it. More often I see one where the faceup is perfect for one character and part of the outfit is perfect for a different one. I like changing things around and making my dolls look like the characters I envision for them, but there's nothing wrong with buying a doll completely finished and enjoying it that way. It's just different ways of enjoying the hobby.

    7. I just put my first fullset on layaway recently. Most of the time I build my dolls from the ground up, but it's a difficult process that can sometimes lead to failure and me selling the doll. I purchased the fullset because I think it'll just be nice to open the box to a clothed, wigged doll. I will definately change her look eventually, but I like the fact that for now, at least, she'll be a complete doll. Just make life a little easier for a whille.

    8. uh 8U As an owner of a fullset n__n;; I have to disagree with penguu! I don't think that it hinders the "customization" ability of the doll at all. The only thing hindering me is money..or lack thereof lmao. They're just as customizable as any other doll 8U I mean. Wigs, eyes, clothing can all be changed at your whims. If you really wanted to, you could just wipe off the face up and voila, it's the same as any other lovely blank doll O__o. I do not believe it is any less customizable at all. If you ask me, investing in a fullset that you really love, vs a blank/default doll that you cannot already see the full potential in, just means that your money is spent on things that you are guaranteed to like. n__n I am also probably a careful shopper like you, Sonar. I will not buy something unless I absolutely love it and know it will be worth my money. Even if the tiniest detail, like maybe the shape of the ears, is off xD;There are lots of dolls that are nice to look at, but how many of them am I willing to own? Very few. Every person's spending habits are different.

I think, instead of looking to people telling others how to bond with your doll, what is creative, what is not..etc.. everyone will find the path themselves. Personally, unless I ask a certain question, I find those sorts of opinions unwanted (for myself, I know this is not the case for everyone). >w< As long as you love your dolls, does it really matter what other people do in their method of loving dolls?

    9. If a full set is what grabs your imagination then go for it! I've ordered both full sets and nude dolls with default faceups (I don't feel confident enough to do my own faceup yet) and adore both options.

I'd have loved to see some of my less standard sized dolls offered as full sets.

    10. Yeah, I agree with you. :D It took me 3 years of just looking at different ones for me to pick the full package that I own. She just appealed to me in every way. I couldn't find something I didn't like about her.

It's very fun reading about everyone's opinions. :)

    11. If you cost out fullsets compared to purchasing bit by bit, you may find you save money with the fullset. I know that's how it was with my very first doll, the IP Soo Ri with the black leather outfit. I loved the dramatic makeup, too.

I don't want to futz over learning how to do a faceup (it would never be up-to-par for me) and I stopped sewing years ago. Having a doll ready to play with out of the box is what I want.

    12. I think it does take a bit of personalization from the doll. It has to. You're buying a fullset. The hair, the eyes, the clothes, the wig, all of it is the same as any one else whose bought that fullset. It makes your doll less yours alone in the end. However, I doubt this takes away from bonding, the love you have for you new doll, or the beauty of it.

Some people are just uncomfortable with face ups, uncomfortable with sewing, etc. If you're uncomfortable with the customization and have no desire to learn them, and have no desire to spend even more on an already expensive dollie by sending it off to a customizer or by buying different clothes, or wigs, than thats your choice and it's how you're going to most enjoy your doll.

Some people, like myself, feel uncomfortable having a doll that looks like any one elses by default. We're the people that love the customization end of things.

I personally don't look down on you, or think that it's the "wrong" way to go about dollie ownership.

Dolls come in fullsets for you and others like you. For people who are just getting into the hobby and for people who don't have any desire to mess with something thats already beautiful. So, no, it's not wrong.

    13. I like the fact that it can save you money (depends on the company) or get items that are not available otherwise (wings, special face-plates, etc.). Fairyland is the best example: you can get a full doll with face-ups, two face-plates, outfit, shoes, and maybe an extra or two for much less than ordering all the items separately. Some
items like Flora's dress is only available in a set, which I like.

Of course there is no point in doing so if you don't like what is offered. ;)

Many times I get the full set so I can have a ready made doll. After a while I can always have the face-up redone or change the eyes or wig. I also have a collection of clothes and can always use parts from a full set with hand made clothes or from other companies to make a new outfit.

Soom offers Monthly Dolls that are special molds, designs, etc. But they do offer them in parts; the outfit, shoes, face-up, body blushing are all add-ons and do not have to be ordered. But there is no money savings to ordering everything, but you can just order the plain doll.

And as far as looking like everyone elses: wigs are not that much nor are eyes. I've even seen someone dye a limited full set outfit and it looked great and was different.

And as far as me personally having a doll that looks like mine... I don't care. Its not like someone near me has the same thing (possible but not too likely... and if so I might only see that other doll at a meet). So I can always pretend that no one has a doll like mine.

What I've purchased as fullsets: DZ Hid, FL LTF (Shiwoo, Flora, Piki - love the outfits and received the clear wings as a special. Did sell one body.), FL Puki Cupid and Cupid 2 (sold one body and received extras during the first offering), Soom Heliot (w/o faceup and then sold the outfit - didn't like it after I saw it in person) and Amber. But I'm slowing changing them... Hid is now out for a new face-up, Heliot needs a face-up (didn't like the blue one from Soom) and I'm thinking of slightly changing my FL Flora (already changed their wigs or switched their wigs around). Right now my LTF Piki is wearing Shiwoo's hair.

    14. I answered the poll "Yes", because the actual question asked on the poll is "is it less personal". For me, it is... because doing a doll's faceup and coming up with just the right wig, eyes, and overall "look" is how I bond with my dolls. That's what makes them feel personal to me.

However, I don't think that it's "supposed to be" any thing in particular. If fullset dolls are what appeal to you, that's what you should buy! Each collector is different, and there's nothing wrong with buying fullsets. Likewise, there's nothing wrong with building your own doll from a blank one. Because of the customizability intrinsic to this type of doll, it makes sense that customizing would probably be more common than buying a fullset and leaving it as-is. But that's not a negative reflection on those who do so.

To each their own... I'm in this hobby because it makes me happy, and I'd like to think that's why others are in the hobby as well. So do what makes you happiest!

    15. I'm the same way, I like to buy fullsets mostly because you get everything with it. It's somewhere to start and kind of a place holder for the look I want for the doll :D I get annoyed when my doll doesn't have a wig or eyes, etc :/ I wouldn't say it's wrong because a lot of the times when you buy a fullset you're not seeking to keep it the exact same as the original doll. I know I bought an LE fullset and she came with everything but the second I could get her a new outfit I did X'D

    16. 8U Sorry Rai, but all those things can be changed in the future, not a single part of a fullset is ever locked in stone xD; I have to argue. The clothing that every person wears, if it was bought from store, someone else will have it. 8U It's not the what, but the how, in this case, isn't it? So many people buy from stores, there is someone out there who will buy the same thing. Maybe even make the same or a very similar outfit to you. In this case, how is the better question. How do they wear it? With the same attitude as you? The same accessories, the same days? I doubt it. Even if the other owners of the fullset have the same set, their methods of expression of their dolls I can almost guarantee will be different. Therefore, I argue it's not any less personal 8V.

    17. Nothing wrong with buying a fullset so your doll has a face, and hair and clothes to start with. I know I did it with my Mo-2 boy. I bought him as the fullset and then took apart some of his stuff because I like the clothes, but not on him, and I gave the default wig to some friends because it didn't suit him. But I wanted him to HAVE clothes and such until I had stuff for him. He's still wearing temp hair and temp eyes until I get those right, but his original hair has vanished at a doll meet, and his original eyes (purple glass) are in my practice head.

If you plan to change some of it later, then buying your dolls fullset is hardly wrong until you get what you need for them!

    18. I think I'm going to try and have someone change the title of this thread. It feels like it should be different now.

    19. Oh, they all can be changed. But the OPs question is whether the fullset itself and owning it like that makes it less personal. And I believe it does. Just like people buying the same shirts from the same store. Yes, you have a different attitude, you have different add ons for it, but its still the same shirt. Your not unique in having it, and its doesn't look unique on you. Like fullsets. Or even company face ups. They're less personal to the person who owns that doll. They don't show much of their own flare for their doll until the stuff is changed about, but then its not the fullset anymore, is it ;3

    20. For me, there's no right or wrong when it comes to these dolls. Sure, you might like the full package now, but you might change your mind somewhere along the line. It's not less personal, it's just your own personal prefrence.
