    1. I've had three dolls who are/where fullsets.
The fullsets, and molds looked so perfectly fitting for some characters of mine I had to buy them.
I can make clothes myself, but I still like to have fullset once in a while.
It's nice to have a doll allready clothed in a perfect outfit right out of the box.
I only want to do the face-up myself because to me it's the most important personal touch my dolls need.

One of the fullsets I didn't even liked at all. But it was the only way to get the mold I wanted in white skin.
And it was my first doll, so it was nice she allready had a face-up, even if I didn't liked the face-up much.

    2. I love buying fullsets!
I cannot paint dolls either so i send them off to faceup artist even though they come with default,
because i like them to be special
But i do photography and props so its kinda creativeXP

    3. My Mo2 and puki were fullsets. They fitted my tastes and i would have customized the same way more or less. I don't think it makes it less personal. It is how you feel about your doll that decides that - in my opinion.:)

    4. I've bought a fullset Mo-3 dark Knight doll from DollZone. He's my first doll and I got the full set cause I had nothing for my doll and I wanted him to come in with something when he came here. Naked dolls are no fun.. I don't think its wrong or anything . I now have a few wigs , eyes and other clothes I've made for him.

    5. When I first got into the hobby, I wanted to buy a full package simply so that it would come with everything and I wouldn't have to worry about buying it all seperately. I couldn't find one that wasn't either sold out or way above what I considered reasonable for me to be spending. Then I fell in love with B&G Sapphira, and after a short period of saving, got him. I kind of wished at first that he had been a full package so that he would have come complete, but I really enjoyed sewing all his clothes, searching for the perfect eyes and wig, etc.

When I ordered my second, Soom Glot, I had the oppurtunity to order her fullset and just do a longer layaway, but I opted out of that, because I had enjoyed starting from scratch with my Sapphira.

Really, it's all about what's right for you and what you enjoy. No matter if your doll is a fullset or not, they will still be unique because they are YOURS and yours alone! So no, I do not think it's any less personal (I accidentally voted that I did in the poll :doh), and it's definitely not "the wrong way" do it. However you want to buy, full package or blank, then that's how you should buy.

    6. I do not think so.

For beginners, buying full set means that you will have a complete doll (i.e. non-nekkid doll) upon arrival thus you can start "enjoy" playing with them. My first was bought like that, since I did not know much about BJD how to shop for them etc. So it was very useful since I get to play with him right away.

I still buy full sets occasionally now, if I like the outfit and face up. But upon arrival, all parts go to different dolls in my crews or they go to storage until later time. So I consider it as just getting outfits and doll together.

    7. I don't think of it as being less personal either. I am not a visual artist, so I can't do my own faceups, certainly not to the quality I would want. I'd be buying the company faceup or hiring an artist regardless, so that could be considered less personal right there. It's difficult for me to look at a blank head and visualize the possibilities; conversely, one of the major things that attracts me to a specific doll is the company's faceupped photos. I start creating a character from that look, rather than having a pre-existing character and looking for a mold and faceup that will suit, so I guess some of us just start our relationships with our dolls from the "wrong" end! In my case, four of my dolls were limited fullsets, and the only way to get the face I'd fallen in love with was to buy the set (the one time I bought blank, the wait for my slot on the artist's list drove me nuts, not even mentioning the stress of wondering how it'd turn out). It's nice to have the outfits, wigs and eyes all at once too, but it always comes down to the face and the personality in the expression for me.

    8. My first doll was a fullset - it was how I got used to having dolls. But all it meant that I was afraid to change her, and it took a long timee to get up the courage to wipe her face and change her around. Only blank dolls for me from now on!

    9. I prefer the stress-free ordering of fullset and default dolls. I'm not creative enough to design or paint special faceups, I can't sew so all my enjoyment comes from owning dolls that are already ready to go. I only want dolls that I can see personalities for, so I end up with a collection that is special to me even though they are in a way a dime a dozen. So no, I don't think ordering a fullset is less personal. It's all in how you collect ^_^

    10. I have only one doll (on the way) and i didnt like the fullset outfit.. thats the main reason i didnt purchase it.. ive made her tonnes of clothes already so she wont be naked on her arrival and ive got her wigs ready.. the customisation for me is really enjoyable !! x

    11. Yes, I think it's a little less personal, not necessarily a lot, and definitely not a matter of "good" or "bad". I'm very particular not to dress like most women of my age, culture, or economic status. Modest? that's a given, but everything else is negotiable.

I'm waiting for my first doll, Cuprit [and I dislike most of her costume, so I'm very glad that Nekokoi is keeping that]. She will not be nekkid in the box-opening photos, because I am knitting her a 1940's-inspired sweater, and I have fabric for a gorgeous classic plaid skirt (or maybe a kilt, but if so it will be a long one) to go with the sweater. She will probably be barefoot or sporting her hooves.

I have seen some exquisite outfits here on DoA, ones I wish I could afford to buy. However, I can make clothing of equal or better quality for far less money, so for me a good part of the fun of having her will be making small-scale couture to suit her personality. [There is something to be said for having more than 50 years' sewing experience, including wedding gowns.]

I have an IH Jessica on layaway, and I picture her in gowns like Ginger Rogers wore; she may very well bankrupt me in the shoe department! I'm still getting used to the idea of paying more for a pair of doll shoes than I used to spend on my own two feet. [And she may get here and turn out to be more Sandra Dee than 30's glam.]

    12. This is a slightly older thread but I wanted to bring it back because it's very valid and I was thinking about it earlier, sooo... :)

This is yet another of those things that my opinion has changed a lot on since I entered the hobby. The first doll I ever ordered was actually a fullset doll with a faceup and everything - a very cute Megi-2 from Dollzone (seems to be one of the most common beginner's dolls...:)) but when he got to me, all I could see was the same Megi everyone else had - same faceup, same eyes, same clothes, same wig. No matter how I changed him, he just seemed like the cookie-cutter doll and he went away shortly after he came to me. I never ordered another fullset again...till recently.

I got a (more or less) fullset Soom Iv secondhand from someone and I realized when he got here that he may be the same doll with the same clothes and wig, but he is absolutely NOT the same as anyone else's fullset Iv. This Iv is personal to me - it is a gift from my husband, I picked it out to remind me of him and he bought it with his hard-earned money because he loves me. Maybe this Iv resembles others but it is near and dear to my heart. That is when I realized that fullset =/= cookie-cutter doll.

Many dolls, fullset or not, have this very special, personal feeling to them. Even if the doll resembles other people's dolls in almost every way, every doll is a personal, special experience. Someone had ideas behind that doll (most likely) and to them, that fullset doll could be intensely special. Dolls are what WE make them, not the designers who create those fullsets.

*hugs her special Iv* It's funny how opinions about the doll-world change the longer we've been in it. :)

    13. As much as customization is great and all, but I feel overwhelmed by the different options (hair style, color, eyes, clothing, looks, etc) I stick with full sets if they look great, it makes my life slightly easier. If anything, I would purchase full sets and customize them from there on.

    14. Well yeah, it IS less personal. ^^;; I don't know how it could really NOT be less personal. If you put everything together yourself, then it comes from you. If you buy the full set, it comes from somebody else. No matter how much you connect with the aesthetic, it didn't come out of your head. Especially if it comes from a company, the person who made it doesn't know you and didn't make it with you specifically in mind, so there is no personal relationship involved.
That doesn't mean it's bad, or worse, or anything like that. And it doesn't have to mean you won't be able to love it just as much. (I REALLY REALLY LOVE a LOT of things that have been made by people besides myself.) But it's definitely less personal, technically.

    15. Buying a full package is less personal for me.
I have tried it a couple of times only to find me getting different eyes, wigs, clothes, face-ups for the doll in the end, because I couldn't stand seeing the very same doll with the same extras being spammed all over the gallery by different people. It's not so much the outfit or the wig that bothers me, it's usually the face-up, because that's the most important and most recognizable part about a doll for me. So yes, one thing I've realized after some time is that I really do like all of my dolls to have their own custom made face-ups to fit their characters. I don't want my dolls to look like any other doll of this certain mold. However I do not mind getting other parts of the full package, like the wig, the eyes, the outfit, because even if I do not use them on that doll, they might still be useful for another one.

    16. I've just never seen a fullset which appealed to me so that kinda decides it for me.
I do like the customisation aspect but I wouldnt rule out buying a fullset completely, even if I was just going to split it up among multiple dolls. I do love doing my own faceups though, so no matter how good the factory faceup looked I'd probably end up doing my own.

    17. I only buy full sets because I'm a noob. I have no idea how to string them, give them a face up etc.

    18. My boy is a Full Package and i really love it i think he looks great. I like them when they are full package so that when they arive they look realy nice and i don't have to wory about anything. After i have them i might do things to costomize them and make them more personal but i like having the professional clothes and face up .

    19. I don't feel there is anything wrong with buying a full package doll. It may be a little less personalized but at the same time your getting everything at once. I would also look at other dolls that aren't a full package deal because you may be missing out on a great doll because your not getting an outfit with it. Don't sell yourself short with only full package dolls.

On the otherhand I purchase dolls without a faceup no wig and no outfit. When it comes it's a full blank slate and I let the doll direct the way it looks. When I'm done with full customization I feel it's a unique one of a kind doll. I've only bought 1 company faceup doll and that is my Souldoll Chantel and she was pricey. I haven't seen her yet but I'm sure she'll be gorgeous with her face!

    20. It's just personal taste. For me, I love to customize my dolls and such, but to other people, that isn't as fun. -shrug- Heh, I guess I almost try to stay away from the full package dolls, one reason being because they're more expensive! xD Oh yes, i am cheap.
