It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Buying more dolls when you still have unfinished ones

Feb 3, 2013

    1. I like to at least have eyes, wig and faceup done the day the doll arrives. Sometimes, wig or eyes might be a little slow arriving, but they usually are on order before the doll is home....except in the case of my dear Nakhtmin, who should b e home this week, and has no wig or clothes. He's limited, and I threw ALL my cash at him instead of getting his wig. So he'll be bald for a week or two. With Ay, he arrived much sooner than expected and his wig was ordered with another doll that won't be home for another month or more.

Other than the eyes, wig, first outfit, shoes and faceup, they can wait. I want to get my list done, then focus on spoiling with clothes, shoes and accessories. So...I guess I should say I want basics done immediately before anything else, but getting more comes before fully completing wardrobes.

However, I absolutely, positively CANNOT leave my doll sitting with no faceup. CAN. NOT. lol Even if he's a floating head, he HAS to have a faceup. I do my own, so this is usually not a problem. Even if it ends up being a temporary faceup I slopped on in 30 minutes just to keep him from being blank, he has to have a face. Why? I have no idea. I'm obsessive about that.

As to other people, I really don't care what they do. Your priorities may not be anything like mine. If it doesn't bother you to have naked bodies, or random blank parts lying around, that is totally your call. I may not understand how you can do it, but I don't have to, it's not my place to tell you how to enjoy your dolls. :)

    2. It does not bother me, though generally its a doll which is limited that will arrive while I have others unfinished, because I have to get it while opportunity allows. I One of the dolls I have had the longest is still unfinished, while ones I purchased later are complete. Finishing is not that important to me, I enjoy the process of designing stuff for them and working on them. The only problem is not being able to properly photograph them as I wish because either one has no facup or one has no clothes, or wig, or ect.

    3. I would like to have my last doll finished before I order a new one but it never works out that way. Either a company has a great sale that I can't pass up or I will fall in love with someone on the marketplace..

    4. I used to feel "obliged" to finish one doll before getting another, but I no longer do. Until my seventh doll arrived, everyone was properly dressed in hand-made clothes, but then...

Dolls just "happen" sometimes. I have a few that I have ordered at a moment that wasn't really planned because there happened to be an event or I just happened to find one on the marketplace. In such cases, you don't know when another opportunity is going to present itself - so I didn't hesitate and just bought them. As a result, I now have five dolls who are still waiting for their own hand-made clothes. One of them has been stark naked since her arrival XD. It does make me feel like a bad dollie guardian, but - I found it more important to gather my crew first. (I got really paranoid about dolls not being available anymore when I am finally ready to buy them - I'm so slow!)

The plan is to stop buying dolls now (...yeah right, right? ;)) and get everybody properly outfitted. They all need one outfit; after that, I'll be making new outfits as inspiration strikes :).

    5. I don't really think in terms of 'finished' & 'unfinished'. I really don't do faceups & usually just get company ones but I got my Mac (DZ Mo) w/o one. I still dressed him up & took pics of him cause his blank face had such personality! I've got so many eyes/wigs/shoes/clothes that new dolls ALWAYS have something to wear. My dolls are all cosplayers as well so there's really no 'just one wig' for them.
What I have on my to-do list is making the COSTUMES I want each doll to wear - multiple costumes. Need to get the dolls to do that.
I actually do have 2 heads on hand at the moment - one just needs a body cause she's got a beautiful face-up (Elfdoll Rita) but the other needs to go to get a face LOL
      I did finally get Mac's face-up done (by AngelToast) & he's gorgeous now :D
None of that stops me ordering the dolls I still need to finish my little doll family tho.

    6. Nooooo, the only reason I ever want a new one is because the old one is complete. I have to finish the pervious one first, that's the whole point in my buying it.

    7. Ohhh this always happens to me!!! Always have new dolls on the way ... maybe I should slow down a bit and finish the dolls I have before ordering new ones!

    8. I tend to procrastinate on faceups for a really long time sometimes, and finding the right eyes/wig/outfit can be a long search - during which time I do sometimes buy a new doll.

    9. My dolls range from perfect to completely undone, but I'm ok with this as my general approach to the hobby. Several dolls I wanted were long out of production, a couple more were just going out, so securing these when they come up has taken priority. Thankfully I don't think there will be any more like that so I can settle into finishing ones I have to my satisfaction. Having one perfectly done full set and then the rest in various stages of completion suits me.

    10. guilty :wiggle I don't have a rule about this, if the previous doll is finished it's better but if I see something I like and it's a good opportunity or the doll is limited I don't wait! plus I usually buy in batches (for shipping fees and customs) so I have to complete the dolls together....and it's fun to me (:

    11. I purchase dolls when I can afford them and don't mind if the ones I have aren't finished yet. I like to work on several projects at once and I never rush things. If a doll takes a long time to get done, then that's all right with me because I know he or she will be done eventually . And if I get another doll done before that even if I purchased it more recently then that doesn't bother me either.

    12. I do this, but on a case-to-case basis. It usually happens when a limited or phased out doll I really want appears on the company site (*coughIplehousecough*) or here on the marketplace.

    13. That happened to me a few months ago when Iplehouse had their EID sale and I suddenly found myself having to make a very quick decision to get an Arvid or not :sweat. Needless to say I ended up buying him and I suppose that sale is part of the reason why I have two not entirely finished dolls now.

    14. Some of mine have to hang about a bit before I know exactly what they want. At the moment, all but 2 are in various stages of customization and dressing. And I just bought 2 heads I really couldn't afford, because they're for 'ZoMG dream' characters. Then mentioned I'd really love to find a 3rd, and the seller knows someone who has one. :doh I literally spent every penny I had spare (plus a few - noodles only for me!) hopefully it'll still be available in a month or two when I've scraped up more money. Which means no body for my current floating head, and none for the two new ones until I figure out a way to get the third.

Oh, and to add insult to injury, my local group is doing an eye order, and there are *perfect* ones for the incoming guys from that company. Anyone got any good lotto numbers?

Oh, and back on track, I find it actually useful to have several in various stages. I have a nasty, chronic, disabling pain/fatigue condition, so a lot of the time I can't sit or stand in one position very long. I set up 'stations' - paint here standing to spray, move to sit & sew when I can't stand, lie down and surf web for info and inspiration when I can't do either, switch around as necessary. Usually if I start with painting, sealing, or other cosmetics, it's dry enough for me to do the next step by the time I've gone through the cycle of breaks.

And yes, I've been a few days down & out stuck at home without outside contact, so please excuse the novel length post!*_*

    15. That's one of my bad BJD habits. None of my dolls have faceups and two of them aren't even strung right now and I still want to get one more doll. Ditto to what Jany said about MSC. Sometimes you can't do faceups and blushing because it's always either too hot and humid or too cold outside to use finishing spray.

    16. The thing I love about this hobby is that it isn't static. A lot of doll owners seem to have a constant stream of works-in-progress. I know I'm definitely one of those people!

I think there can be various definitions of "finished" when it comes to dolls. It could mean that they've got a face-up, wig, eyes and an outfit (therefore they haven't got anything "missing"). To me, a doll is "finished" when I'm completely satisfied with his/her look and don't feel inclined to change anything just now. (which of course means not all my dolls are "finished" lolol)

I think it's perfectly okay to buy another doll when you have one that isn't finished yet.

    17. When the funds are around, then yeah, I'm probably going to buy another doll before my girl is really how I want her to look. Although lately I've been browsing clothes and everything, so I'm at least comfortable with how my current doll looks.

But I mean, I'm even like this with crochet projects. I get half way through one thing, see something awesome, start making that, see something else cool, start making that, etc etc. Probably going to end up the same way with dolls. I'm just that type of person! *_*

    18. i am guilty of doing that D:.... i had bought my very first doll and inexperienced as i was i i didn't order the extras that she needed....then the soom ID/MG event happened and i just couldn't let it pass me up, i went and jumped on the wagon, and because of the money i had to save to make the lay away payments my girl just stayed there without eyes and wig >_> ....now i just went and ordered yet another limited doll for fear of not being able to get him later the way i wanted....and stuff just keep waiting for me there.... i am so bad....

    19. Most of my dolls are currently unfinished. I'd rather get the sculpts I want while they're available (since I mostly enjoy LE dolls), and save on shipping by ordering their accessories in bulk. It makes more sense to order $250 of eyes at once and pay $30 once, rather than order $25 eyes pair by pair and pay $30 shipping ten times over!

    20. Yes.... I have 4 doll waiting on 1 more. All my dolls are done except for one.. which is the 2nd one I got. Kinda sad. I keep telling myself that I'm gonna buy her a new outfit, and shoes, and wig a probably eyes, but I just don't do it :(.
