Buying more dolls when you still have unfinished ones

Feb 3, 2013

    1. I do it. I have dolls awaiting faceups, and yet I bought another doll! I have a head wanting a body and could have bought about 3 for her, but no, had to have another...but then I got a body for free and hoping the company offers heads!

    2. I still have in-progress dolls, but since I'm trying really hard not to bring any new BJD into the fold, I'm hoping I'll have everyone as done as they're going to be before I cave and bring someone else home. :sweat I used to have many dolls coming and a few going all the time. I'm trying to break that habit though.

    3. I have two blank floating heads and before I buy them bodies I plan on buying the female doll I've got my eye on. I prioritize by what I want most. After I get my girly, I'm going to get my heads face-ups (because I can't do them myself) and bodies.

    4. Oh yeah, I have so many floating heads! *_* Most of the time for me, I end up buying another doll\part in the middle of a project (or two...or three....) because it's either limited or just an amazing deal. Of course, as the type of person who constantly window-shops online, I've become pretty good at spotting amazing deals, which means I have to let most of them go 'cause I just can't afford them! This is why I always have so many layaways :sweat But I justify it because I actually do have a very small wishlist (the the time of this post, anyway) and just getting bits of my dolls sort of gives the illusion for me that I have more dolls than I do, because I have so many incomplete dolls. It also enables me to buy heads and bodies separately faster than if I were to buy a whole doll, or even just wait until I had enough money for the head and body at the same time. (I do feel quite lucky that at the time of posting this, I only have two dolls on my wishlist, which means I can focus a lot more on just finishing the dolls I already have!)

    5. I am uh . . . really bad at the buying more while dolls lay around incomplete <_<;;;

      I blame less free time since getting a real job (which also = more money to actually fund new resin)? *halo* :D;

    6. I have a set group of characters to shell (& have a wishlist of sculpts to get for that - oh, which changes LOL). I get what I can when I can. I've got 2 floating heads right now which I've yet to get bodies for, one of which needs a faceup. So yeah, I get new dolls even if I have 'unfinished' (body-less anyway) dolls lying about. Plus I had my Mo for quite a while before I sent him off for his faceup, & my little Dragongirl Debbie STILL has an unpainted face.
      As for 'finished' however - these are characters (ie my little actors) so they have WARDROBES rather than an outfit. They change their hair a LOT (just like people). I've a huge box of wigs, eyes, shoes etc so I can always dress any doll when I get it - but I've always got something that I want to make whether street clothes or cosplay.
      I can't imagine dressing a doll one way & just leaving them forever like that.

    7. I bought my first doll just to see if I would really want to invest in them emotionally/financially, and now that I know I'm certain I can't wait to get my next girl knowing I'll love her even before she gets here. My first dolly isn't finished, but I treat my dollies like people, changing their outfit every few days.

    8. I have... a LOT *_*
      I haven't finished 2 of them. And already ordered another set of heads!
      I have many dolls that I want and I'm always seduced by companies' events. I'm kinda attracted to chinese companies and when it's Chinese New Year..... It's one hella temptation, you know. *sob*

    9. Right now the two dolls I have at home are very incomplete, but I have two more on the way. I didn't really plan to get this many dolls so fast, that is just how it played out. I am sewing all of their clothes myself and that takes me getting into the mood to sew, but it will happen eventually. :sweat It doesn't really bother me that my dolls are so incomplete. I actually kind of like it, like they have more possibility.

    10. I don't think any of my dolls are ever completely finished. I'm always working at improving my sewing skills and faceup skills so as I get a new doll I look at my old ones and think I could do better for them to bring them up to par with the new addition. I'm also addicted to buying wigs and eyes and can never seem to part with any of them, so my dolls looks are ever evolving.

      So yeah, you could say I buy new dolls while I currently have unfinished ones XD

    11. I do this too, I only consider one of my current dolls to be finished as she has a perfect iplehouse faceup and I got lucky and found her wig second hand which despite being different from my planned idea for her turned out to be perfect and as I like to sew for my dolls there is no need for me to buy her anything else now. My boy is fine for now, he has a nice faceup, wig and clothes but at some point I do want to re-do his faceup as it is not quite how I envision him to look but I'm not going to do it until I have had more faceup practice. My first doll is no where near complete, she has a company faceup but the eyelashes fell off and took some of her eyeliner with them and she also has a patch of chipped blushing on her cheek, she was supposed to have a very sweet lolita style and I originally ordered her with a pale natural pinky faceup and blonde wig but the company accidentally sent me the wrong order so although it was the same doll I ordered she had a dark faceup and came with a black wig. I've since bought her quite a few wigs and new eyes but she has never felt right and I have now relised that I need to take her in a totally different direction which will involve modding and a very different faceup which I am not ready to attempt yet so it will be a while until she is finished now.

      Despite all that I currently have one SD, two MSD and two floating heads on the way which are all blank and in need of eyes, wigs and clothes :o and I have at least 3 more dolls I want to bring home this year one of which is soon to be discontinued so some of my dolls will have to remain unfinished until everyone is home :lol:

    12. I may be in the minority, but I don't like having dolls that aren't whole -- and "whole" means a body (for the floating head), permanent eyes, permanent face-up and at least one acceptable wig. Clothes aren't so much a problem.

      I currently have a floating SD head that needs a body, and a tiny that needs blushing and a wig. It was only because the tiny was a limited artist-cast and may not be re-released, that I bought it while that SD head was still floating. Now that I have effectively two incomplete dolls, I won't be buying new dolls until these two get to some level of completion -- which is easy because I dislike incompleteness so much that the thought of buying a new doll is actually offputting! :XD:

    13. I'm terrible with this. I really only have one "finished" doll with face up I love, a nice wig, and some good clothes. All the others are in need of something, be it a wig, new faceup, or some new clothes. I have an order arriving soon with three new dolls, but once they arrive, I plan on focusing on my other dolls for a while most likely. Getting new faceups, some new clothes, and working on backstories more.

    14. I really hate having unfinished dolls. But I can`t help my self once I have fallen in love with a bjd sculpt. If I have the money for it I`ll order it even though I have two dolls at home that I should have sent for face-ups. There is just no helping my self when the next doll crush strike :sweat

      At the moment I got two new dolls that I am drooling over, and that is JID Boris and Benny. And right now they are like stuck on my mind *_*

    15. i go in circles (or depending on weather) on whether dollies come home before previous projects are finished. i have two mod projects i havent looked at in months... but now im kind of getting the feeling of wanting to work on them. now that the days are longer i can sneak in a little modding or a little faceuping. but i usually do faceups when i have more then one face to work on. that way i can seal, one or more heads, while i paint the layers on another and rotate. i feel less like im wasting time that way. :P but i always have a moment of "Oooh i like that doll" and if the funds are available they end up coming home. >_>; LOL and my attention drifts back and forth between heavily interested to just enjoying their company on the shelf.

    16. This is the reason I only have two dolls currently. I bought my first doll (Souldoll Hye) and was just so terrified by her (was scared to touch her, move her, wouldn't even DREAM of attempting a faceup)....So two years after her I bought a cheaper, smaller doll (resin soul Isabelle) to practice on. I've told myself I will not purchase any more dolls until I can confidently take my doll apart and restring her, give her faceups, and sew outfits and such. So...here I am...a few years later and finally toying around with the idea of taking apart my 'practice' doll and doing some faceups.

    17. I can't even remember when was the last time I finished a doll .__. at some point I had 4 dolls, all unpainted, and at least 2 more incoming!

    18. I never buy new doll with unfinished ones. i grand buying a doll is one of the most happy parts of loving dolls. i enjoy every prats, and it always last much longer if i pay more time and focus on it. buy a new doll with the previous unfinished, eg, havent arrival yet, havent got his/ her character yet, less the attention i pay them, i have to continue their costume on the one hand, and wait my new doll come home on the other hand. ohh!! i already get nervous now!!

    19. Hmmm well I've more WIP than finished dolls and more are coming... it's just that I buy a lot of second-hand dolls as they happen to show up in the MP and I cannot let the opportunity pass... it just happens independently of any doll plans I may have

    20. My dolls aren't ever finished only because I'm bad at buying them clothes so they sit around in fancy-pants DH outfits. >w> I'm working on this, though.
